Mitchell Paige, Medal of Honor, WWII

In October 1942, Platoon Sergeant Mitchell Paige repelled repeated enemy charges in fierce hand-to-hand combat on Guadalcanal. On May 21, 1943, in Melbourne, Paige was presented with the Medal of Honor-which he promptly mailed home to his parents for safekeeping.
