What Is Jitter? Jitter is a term used to describe the inconsistency in latency (or time delay) between packets of data traveling over a network. This can be caused by congestion on your ISP’s connection or slowdowns that happen further along in your route. If you’ve ever noticed some lag when playing an online game, this could be due to jitter. Jitter is often used in network monitoring to determine how consistent a connection is. If you have jitter on your line, it means that the data packets are arriving inconsistently and not necessarily when they’re supposed to. This can contribute to latency problems or slowdowns in gameplay for online gamers. What Is the Difference Between Jitter and Ping? The difference between jitter and ping is that jitter measures inconsistency while ping measures latency. Jitter means that packets are coming in at different times, which can be caused by congestion on the network or issues with your ISP’s connection. Ping tells you how long it takes for a packet of data to get from one point to another along its route.

@@MaxMustermann-vy7ur No, a latency of 100ms is definitely not playable. Officially, 20-50ms is the maximum delay to have a reasonably smooth gaming experience. Less than 20ms results in an optimal gaming experience and more than 50ms cause lag and reaction problems. With a 100ms ping you play bronze or silver in every shooter. It is completely beyond me how you can title a 100ms ping as playable. The game starts, but that's about it. You'll struggle with response lag, actor offset, async, and more, all the while being 0.0 competitive.

I just wanna get really low ping, will Starlink give me that? I live in South America and I always connect to USA East servers. All my life. That's like a 110 ping average. How the hell can I lower it to at least under 50?
can you test, like, remote controlling another pc, how usable it is?, like to work on remote computer through starlink input lag
Good idea, I might have to try that out on the new version.
Hey pat I'm in North qld can you tell me what nat type you get on ps5 through starlink as call of duty don't let you play if nat type 3
How is the latency playing on overseas servers? I heard laser crosslink will make latency overseas more playable
Its based on where the land base tower is, and at the moment that locks you down to how fast you will connect to overseas servers.
Starlink > Satelite > Base Station > Server
RIP Hughesnet
I'm curious to know the before and after using Starlink concerning different servers? Say i play LoL on EU with 30ms and i get 100-150ms on NA if i switch servers, would starlink reduce my NA ping or will it stay the same?
it will stay the same, Starlink uses local ground stations.
@@TechManPat Oh i see. Thank you for clarifying that. I move a lot between UK and Mauritius and the latter has a really bad connection for gaming and they've just started rolling out pre-orders for starlink there. I guess i might try it to see how it goes.
I'm a rural so only option has been DSL for playing games, I HATE the bandwidth. but I don't think I can take the hit in ping to these numbers, one thing I will say about my service, even though. I have to take forever to DL a game, patch, or mod and I cant stream my games (I can watch perfectly fine). the pings are low 20s to high 70s and most often 45-55. playing from 70 UP...... ug... no thanks, I play to many FPS survival and FPS adventure games. most servers I play on if you hit 100ms it will auto boot for being to high.
@tech man Pat, I have Starlink and with mw3 I constantly get packet burst and it lags, do you have any clue how to fix this?
The problem here is that everyone’s location on starlink will have different performance , you could try moving your antenna around to try different spots around your home
What headset is that?
i am looking for comments regarding starlink vs ESO. thanks in advanced.
I believe that eso requires a constant ip session when going between reagions. Does the starlink satalite
hopping cause an issue?
Can starlink work say during a thunderstorm?
Service degrades during heavy rain.
Good stuff. But there are to many variables for this so it's all based on each individual persons location. But thank you for sharing
Absolutely :)
is it viable to stream while gaming at the same time ?
What happens if you connect to a server in another Continent for example? What is the latency?
Generally the ping is based on the closest ground station, so if you are in east coast of Australia you will get a ping from there
@@TechManPat Thanks for letting me know.
I have been thinking of buying a starlink with a ground station in North America and then move to South America.
But I am not sure what is going to happen with NA servers' latencies will be, or if the connection will be better using the conventional internet providers.
It’s MB not mb.
B=Byte while b=bits.
Byte is 8 bits.
So I want to play with my friends from EU and I live in Japan. I want to play at EU servers, with the Startling I will get around 70-90 ping?
No, it still comes from Australian data centre, the ping I’m showing here is to local servers
good video bro, I cant get Starlink here in Perth northern suburbs? where are you approximately?
Im southern suburbs near Murdoch uni.
@@TechManPat I'm up northern suburbs and I'm not in the zone according to the map and neither are you? I wonder if it'll work for me
No it will not, it’s not like wireless where if you are a little bit further it will work, there is a very specific set of requirements for it to work. You will have to wait unfortunately
i have this problem where on my older gen xbox one was running way faster and stable starlink but on my newer series s xbox it’s way more laggy even though it says no latency on the starlink app and on my xbox do you know how to fix this?
Cable or wifi ?
just FYI MB (big B) is pronounced megabyte, not megabit (big difference)
80ms is horrible.!
I have 10mb internet only with Frontier communication (They don't provide higher) and I get 23ms.
Just spent money on ordering starlink now I feel as if I should cancel this service
You probably wont notice it as much as the numbers say
Are you playing wired or with wifi?
Wired to starlink
Im in Florida in no where land lol m. Most I can get is 25 . But ps5 test shows 10 download and upload is maybe 2 kbyte... it's dog water lol . I play apex overwatch and cod . Would you say this stalink will majorly improve my gameplay . I'm always lagging and getting disconnected as of now
I play from Nigeria and my latency is 150ms. I still get a lot of kills on halo infinite and apex legends with 150ms ping
I think you would do even better with a lower ping
@@TechManPat yea but that's not possible until game developers create an African game server. I connect to UK game servers when gaming from Nigeria which is the closest server to Nigeria. My lowest ping when connected to UK servers is 130ms but usually hovers around 140-160ms
7:30 What do you mean by these numbers here?
1mb/s = 8.3mbps?
mbps and mb/s are different values
@@TommyAlks Please clarify what each one stands for
@@bororobo3805 Megabytes per second
Megabits per second.
Find a calculator online to convert as required.
The speed in which you see downloads on Steam is generally megabytes per second, the same metric for speed that a USB uses when you copy files between the stick and your PC.
Megabits relates to data transmissions.
60mbps at peak hours . It's a good deal indeed
mb does not equal MB. Look up megabit/s vs megabyte/s
Coulda got a 5g EE router for half the price
Can you play on servers around the world? I'm an immigrant in Australia and I would like to play with my friends from Brazil
No you will still get a ping as if you are in Australia
My starlink can’t even run any of the games I play
Very helpful can’t wait for mine 😊💯
100ms ping is default for Kazakhstan
Before i even watch 10 seconds of this video, I know the whole online games sphere is latency (all other things being equal). Latency of 10ms with 10mbps and you're golden. 50ms and 50mbps and you get a golden shower 😞And, I've never played an online game in my life.
Haha
Amazing video! Do you think its a good alternative for gamer who is playing in US server from Australia/New Zealand or any other parts of the world? I was thinking if its a satellite based it would lower the latency to region who is very far from each other. Like from AU/NZ using VPN to connect to a US server. I hope you can respond on this. As a long of gamer having this problem.
I dont think so, the ground station is still located in Aus, and so you will be playing out of Aus.
bro can you test starlink + cloud gaming for example the new geforce now ultimate with up to 120 fps streaming ._.
Ahh man ! I just finished with the business starlink I should have done that !
Can you test out war thunder on Starlink
Sorry mate I don’t have it anymore
try hunt show down
Not that impressive. Had to use a mobile router for a while and I got like 40-70ms ping
Plz test fifa 23 or eafc 24 ...
Sorry mate. I had a short time frame with the dish
80 Ping is horrible wtf. Everything >30-40ms is unacceptable for shooters.
Bro under 100 is playable
@@MaxMustermann-vy7ur No, a latency of 100ms is definitely not playable. Officially, 20-50ms is the maximum delay to have a reasonably smooth gaming experience. Less than 20ms results in an optimal gaming experience and more than 50ms cause lag and reaction problems. With a 100ms ping you play bronze or silver in every shooter. It is completely beyond me how you can title a 100ms ping as playable. The game starts, but that's about it. You'll struggle with response lag, actor offset, async, and more, all the while being 0.0 competitive.
Lol 100 latency and lower is totally playable.
@@DF-qq5wu 100 ping is playable, csgo runs like butter and I top frag on a mobile hotspot with 100-140ping
Bro can you make a video test playing pubg
The real tester would be apex legends
Hi bro , can you test efootball 23 please
Because I want to buy starlink
Sorry mate, i cannot, i do not have it anymore.
Mine is ~200ms. Can't game with that. 😠
80 it's too high
But for people in rural areas its great you realize
Viendo este video después del DNU de Milei jajaja
If its competitive anything over 50 is useless
The audio is de-synced in this video, it's annoying as all hell.
Ummm see how Fortnite goes aye...
mines terrible
I have family who get sub 50ms with much better speeds. You should be getting better speeds
It’s very much location based, I should be yes getting much better performance but I am in Perth
Where though, I'm Northern Canada and my pings crap
not playable
ok i know im 2months late but could you test Apex Legends
everything above 50ms is not playable!
I have never played a game below 50, my life is above 50, im gonna say it, its playable
with star link i be getting like 30 to 40 ping hightest it will go is 90
