    Thank for this information. As an auto mechanic for over 30 years, I can say that you are 100 percent correct. Also if you have trouble starting any kind of small engine after it has sat around in an off season it is probably due to the ethanol crystallizing in the fuel system. I always use non ethanol for lawn equipment and boats.

    I had a gas powered RV before I went to a diesel engine RV. Made the mistake of using E-15 in the way to Alaska. On regular gasoline I could climb steep mountain grades at 55 to 60 miles on hour. Using E-15, I was lucky to climb at 35 to 40 miles an hour. After over wintering in Fairbanks, I lost a fuel tank due to rust, as well as the fuel boost pump due to corrosion. So not only is corrosion a problem, but the power loss is significant.

  • @TheClampettmobile
    @TheClampettmobile 2 года назад +6

    Another similar issue is "Bio-Diesel" (for those of us with diesel powered vehicles)... I tried it - and will not use "Bio-Diesel" ever again (except in an emergency situation). Less power, less mileage and more black smoke out the tail pipe (great for blowing off priuses) with only a slightly less cost at the pump, which didn't amount to much saving at all. I try to use CLEAR GAS in all my air cooled and older liquid cooled engines. Thanks for your report.

    As I pointed out in this video, yes you can use it in other vehicles other than Flex-fuel vehicles and in 2001 and newer vehicles but the effects of using it are far reaching and damaging over time.
    The effects of ethanol are not limited to just gasoline powered RV’s, cars, motorcycles and trucks. It can also damage occasional or seasonal items such as boats, ATVs, snowmobiles, generators and lawn equipment. As in alcohol, ethanol attracts and absorbs water. When water is introduced into a vehicle’s fuel system it causes rust and corrosion to form on the metal surfaces of the fuel tank and fuel lines. Over time, tiny bits and pieces of corrosion break away from surfaces, and cause clogging of fuel injectors/carburetors, resulting in reduced performance, hard starts, and possible engine problems.
    So just don’t use E-15. Your introducing a fuel that MAY cost less at the pump, but can create long term damage to the engine and shorten the life of the vehicle or equipment it’s put in.
    Just use the same gas you’re using now which is E-10 or 10% ethanol and you’ll be fine.
    "In response to one of your good comments I wrote this::
    I always TRY to start looking for gas when I'm about 1/2 full. But that doesn't always work out right? But if it does that allows me to be more picky on the station I choose. In your case where the station looks run down or looks like it doesn't have much traffic, I'd just keep going until the next station if I could. But yeah for sure. I mean there have been a few times I've topped off with non top tier gas when I absolutely have to. Your's is a good example where I too would of passed.. Another one is if we're pulling into an area that has just received a lot of heavy rain, I DO NOT top off in a station that sits real low or appears that they could of flooded. Overtime you just begin to establish good habits to do all you can do to try to eliminate possible tragedies. Good comment GD 👍

If I get stuck with E15 I will add non-ethanol as soon as possible. Half E15 and half non-ethanol should be equivalent to E7.5. I use non-ethanol in my El Camino as it was not designed to even use E10 and sits for long periods with no problems.

    From the manuals: Ford F53 E85 is ok, up to 15%. ONAN: ethanol blend, not more than 10%.
    The issue is going to be with the generator. Ethanol killed many lawnmowers, weed trimmers, outboards….
    If you are unsure why this is a big deal, go to a hardware store and read the instructions and uses of denatured alcohol. It’s use for cleaning and paint removal. It’s a solvent. While you are there look at the ethanol free fuel section and pick up some for your gas powered lawn equipment, you will need it

    In a perfect world I’d use top tear gas all the time as well. To see how it is not so perfect, please entertain this scenario. Needing gas I pull into a small town and there is only a Texaco, and a Sheetz. The Texaco is $0.10 more per gallon. However the Texaco station looks dated, and few are fewer vehicles filling their tanks there. Across the street is a newer looking Sheetz with lots of customers. IMHO, newer tanks, and high volume equal cleaner gasoline. In this case I would choose Sheetz.

    We who live in Colorado and other high altitude states also get ripped off by the sale of 85 octane gas being labeled as “regular”. Most passenger vehicles are intended to use 87 octane, which now costs about 30 cents per gallon more when sold here as “Midgrade”. Modern cars can burn 85 octane, but the engine computer will adjust for it to prevent knocking, which results in lower power and mileage. The sale of 85 octane fuel in high altitude areas is usually justified by outdated studies using vehicles with carburetors.

    Great video and well said info for all with gassers! I accidentally and absentmindedly grabbed an E85 pump handle last year when traveling in the southwest- can't remember the state. Anyway I foolishly without realizing it topped off the tank with about 40 gallons of the 85 octane sold out there thinking it was 87 octane. My next stop I topped off with hi grade to correct my error even though it cost a boatload. That made me learn my lesson to watch those pump handles! Anyway have to fill the rig quickly today. Here in Georgia they had a moratorium on the gas tax which expires the 1st of June so running to top off the tank after a trip to Florida and through Alabama this past week before gas goes through the roof again here.. Still lots of maintenance to do. Got most of my Rejex on but need to wash the love bugs off after the FL run. Still have a small area to do with the Rejex then start on the roof again. But, it is political. The govt. is trying to force us into the green new deal “before” we can do it successfully. I bet most people wouldn’t mind an electric car, but it’s not physically possible for everyone to switch. The system just isn’t here, yet.

    Odd, my flex fuel Silverado runs great on flex fuels. Here in PA I've been using it a lot since it saves me close to 30 cents per gallon or more. I'm pretty sure we can get it year round in PA. And its 88 octane.

    I always use a Lucas Oil Fuel Additive product at every fill and try to never go below a half tank as well and keep the tank full when not being used. My question is, will the fuel additive provide some protection to the RV's fuel system and components and the fuel stability to the E 15 fuel when in use and during storage. from what I have seen the Lucas additive does help. Your thoughts on this Martin would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  2 года назад

      I don't know if Lucas stabilizes E-15 or not during storage but I certainly would NOT use my motorhome as a lab rat to see. Now during winter we stay down in RGV and I top off before we park. When I do this, I add 4 cans of Sea Foam-1 can per 20 gal.- to keep fuel fresh and it also is a great fuel PM item to run through all the injectors etc. once we leave.

    • @fredwolf1754
      @fredwolf1754 2 года назад

      @@RVstreet Thanks for your input Martin. I have used the Lucas for years in both diesel and gas trucks for many years and never have had any engine or fuel system issues. There are upper cylinder lubricants, injector cleaner and other additives for engine protection also. I have considered using Seafoam also, they have a great product. Regardless I will be avoiding 85 octane and step up to a better fuel going forward. Thanks again and have a great summer.

    The gas companies started jacking up prices long before sanctions were put in place for Russia. We hardly got any gas from Russia to begin with so it’s just price gouging by the greedy corporations at the expense of the American people. I purposely don’t use cheap gas for that same reason. It’s not a bargain if you use more gas and it causes engine problems.

    • @Buffatestuff

      Oil is a traded commodity, the gas companies don't set the price of oil the market does. When you shut down supply the price has to go up. It's not the "greedy" corporations, it's the power hungry politicians.
