As a SAFFA I have the utmost respect for this Irish side. There is nothing about them that I don't like. Class act including the coaching staff.
I feel the same way about the bok team your scrum absolutely terrifies me if I’m honest we need to find a way to lock it or it’s game over your strong in the line out and your wings are absolutely lethal. That group game in the World Cup was one of the most physical I’ve ever seen The tackles were next level the physicality was off the charts neither side wanted to give an inch.

Same to SA. We love Rassie, we loved him when he was here. We also love a bit of shit stirring 😅 Might I add - huge respect to SA pundits. They honestly show the least bias out of any pundits. It's a joy to here how excited they get about "good play" be it from SA or their opposition 👏
As a Kiwi Samoan, I gotta support my kiwi boys(especially Bundee) in the Irish and I like Ireland my favorite in the 6 nations but I respect South Africa cause they do things differently (like the All Blacks loss in twickenham)and they are like our brother protector(to the smaller nations) of the Southern Hemisphere and first to reach 4 times world champs, so interesting match

It was one of the best games of rugby I’ve ever seen.. and I’m French. Nobody could take their eyes off the game. I had some friends over, none of them care for rugby. ALL of them were glued to the TV until the last second. Unbelievable game.

I live in Ireland 🇮🇪. Irish are passionate about their rugby and they have the physicality. I been in a Pub in Dublin surrounded by Irish screaming for our blood as you do. We have not beat them in years almost close to a decade. That stops this weekend. I don't care how we do it. We must must moer huller. Or my day at work come Monday 😅😢 #LoveRugby

The 4 biggest factors will be the thinner air, the loudness of the fans, how fired up the players are and only then will the ability of the players be a factor. So basically it's the altitude the amplitude the attitude and the aptitude. :)

I can’t see how all these pundits writing Ireland off as tired and not good enough because Munster didn’t go back to back in the URC and that Leinster lost an epic European final and failed to get to the URC final is a bad thing for us. The coaches will be in their ear making it so personal. This happened going into the NZ series and was amplified after the first test and we all know what happened next. I’ll always back this Irish team because in my opinion they have performed consistently high level for a long time. Super pumped for this!
As an Irishman, I can't see Ireland pulling out the win. But Farrell is a genius, so we will see. One thing I can predict is that there will be a lot of sore bodies Sunday.

I gotta say though, as an Irish man, we really aren't arrogant. I know there's so much shithousery online but the fans genuinely respect the SA team and I know for a fact the Irish team have so much respect for the world champions.

The Irish players/squad and management aren't arrogant. It's the sh**e-talk out of the Irish media and the private school rugby heads that pisses off other nations and also many genuine Irish supporters. Case in point was the muck that was talked in the lead-up to the NZ quarter-final and the English game this year in Twickenham. Idiots on Off the Ball and some of the Virgin Media TV crew are mostly to blame. The likes of Ger Gilroy, Joe Molloy, Eoin Sheahan, Ruadhri O'Connor and Matt Williams utterly disgraced themselves! Absolute clowns.

You didn’t lose because of kicking. Ireland turned down 5 easy kicks. You didn’t say that part did you?
Nonsense. And one of those missed kicks ended up being a try so stop with that excuse.
I think it goes both ways here. Yes, the result might have been different if SA had a better kicker in that match, but then again Ireland botched a whole load of lineouts in key areas in that game as well, which could have led to more points if successful. Games are won and lost on more factors than just a kicker.

As an Ireland fan I normally go into games thinking if we play to our potential we win, but not this week. Think the Boks look really strong on paper and we probably need them to have an off day to win. Hopefully it's an epic game and really looking forward to it but reckon SA will win by a score.

I think Eben (who I like) was a bit ruffled after the game, being ragdolled and all, and the Irish comments were purely complimentary. He could have taken it negatively, and maybe he was a bit arrogant. Ireland could have fully expected to make the finals at that stage, being no. 1.

The full context of his comment was that he took that as a sign that Ireland may be under estimating the match against the All Blacks. As a Springbok, he would always be extra wary of the All Blacks, and so it would seem to him that Ireland were counting their chickens before they hatch. His point was that you never count the All Blacks out.

It’s tight at the top end of the game. SA supporters who think this is going to be a walkover should think again. Margins are small. Boks need to make their opportunities count. We should be as humble in victory as in defeat. Boks by 4!
I remember there were always good reasons why the Springboks lost against Ireland and why Ireland are 3/0 up on the Springboks. However, it seems this time round the Springboks have made sure they have removed or addressed the historic reasons… so Saturday should be a test without any excuses
Game 2 in Durban. It tends to be much warmer. Breakdown is key. James Louw's cannon of a boot will be massive for Ireland. Scrum time we should have the edge, open play, Ireland might. That is until Kwagga, Marx and Van Staden all play in the second half. Should be a belter!!! But I honestly believe the Boks will win both games. Ireland without JGP just aren't as scary and we now have Pollard back, who hasn't played against the Irish under Rassie.

Ireland are definitely capable of winning vs South Africa. Their structures and attack will allow them their chances. I do think Handre will tip the scales for South Africa, particularly in Pretoria, but I think a split series is entirely plausible. Let's enjoy the display! Cheers!

How often does Ireland play SA in SA? They have had one tour in SA in 20 years, so saying they have the wood over them when most games are home games is slightly misleading. They did however beat the Boks at the WC, which was neutral and a big game.

Gibson-Park & Keenan are big losses but Jamie Osborne is a serious talent and what better way to create more depth in a position we are probably most weak in than against South Africa. Both teams are looking very strong, a lot of players from both sides have played long seasons, the Irish players more so but they’ve had 10 days to acclimatise and the energy and mood from the camp looks really healthy and strong and they’ve been going about their business quietly which is great. It’s going to be a tough game but I’ve no doubt they can come away with a win this weekend. Come on Ireland!! 🇮🇪☘️💪🏻
Best comment sofar. The addition of Osbourne is a strengthening of the side, he is top-class. And it shows that the management are not afraid to take risks and un-earth new talent. We are blessed with depth in all positions thanks to the 4 provincial sides quality. For example, imagine if Niall Murray from Connacht was selected for this tour. I'd have no concerns that he would not be up to the task. Our young men no longer feel in-adequate. We are the best in the World at Rugby, look at how our U20s have been performing for the last 10 years. We need to accept that and stop apologizing. South Africa is more afraid of us than we are of them, and rightfully so. Be afraid, be very afraid....

Im excited for this one. The anticipation almost feels like a final all over again. I think the Boks will take both games... the one where Ireland have the best chance to win is most likely going to be at loftus. Its going to be very physical, there will be injuries, knocks and niggles, we can rotate fresh players in for game 2 without any drop off in quality and thats not the case for Ireland. Even if they can field the same 23 for 2 weeks in a row, they'll be tired and sore going up against some fresh legs. And make no mistake, Loftus will be brutal.

2-0 for South Africa and i think it will be in dominant fashion. South Africa after 2 world cups are just now starting to really peak while other are starting to lose momentum. Rassie and Jacques have managed this squad so well that they made sure to build for the future. Don't be surprised if they dominate for the next 4 years and go on to win another world cup in 2027

They must be shattered, mentally, physically and emotionally, after that year. Not expecting much from this series.
Forget Leinster and Munsters short falls .. when these guys step into the Irish Camp Andy Farrell has a way of getting them up for a test match … Just look at the RWC knocked out again at a quarter final Jonny sexton retires , years gone by they would have had a massive drop off due to confidence , with Andy Farrell they go on and win the six nations ..
Yep I absolutely agree with you an Andy Farrell camp and then Andy Farrell coach team is different to Leo Cullen and Leinster. They have different tactics different approaches to the game and more importantly Ireland have what Leinster dont two jackal specialists. But I will be honest I am concerned about that game at altitude.

Leinster boys will be well prepped for loftus having played there and had a few weeks off since. That loftus crowd can easily turn on you. If irish can stay in the game or get ahead early (similar to glasgow) theyre in with a chance. Looking forward to it should be a good test match !
Yeah I think you're right with a 1 all. Im Irish so I'm prejudice, Boks at home is hard ask for us. We are missing key world class players too. I'm hopeful next gen have it in them. Cant wait for the games

In 32 international matches how many times have Ireland lost by more than a score? Once - in a game where they were held up over the line 5 times. And in that whole period they have only lost 4 times. A good deal of the SA team hasn't played an international since the WC - the rest have only played against Wales. The team is getting old. Ireland were similarly predicted to get mashed in Paris after the World Cup (with Sexton gone etc.) - what happened? They won 38-17. Ireland may lose this game but there is no way they are going to be steamrollered. Ireland by 3!

ireland and south african teams play in the same league so fatigue cant be the excuse plus leinster players get rested alot.The top players at leinster play less than 10 games in the urc
I think they meant ireland has a six nations that runs concurrently with it. So an extra 5 international matches
Paul O’Connell in an interview this week clearly stated that fatigue isn’t an issue. So nobody is making excuses.

Obviously a win is a win, sometimes it is in your favour sometimes not. Not my point. Point is that 3-0 is not reflective of actual relative team strength. But no matter next 2 games are all that matters now.

Bud…they are professionals,there should be depth in the team to negate that…boks also have many injuries ..these guys get paid well so they must produce simple ya.In the old days of super 14 we toured the islands with huge disadvantage of jet-lag, nobody made excuses..we were clearly more adversely affected by travel,hence the organisers eventually decided to rectify this way too late…it takes a huge toll on even the most fittest dudes.

Ireland have been on the road for 13 months. They peaked at the last RWC. 3 starting players out and no depth. If the Irish forwards can't hold their own it's game over. Bokkes are going to contest all the line outs, stuff us in the scrum, beat us up on the game line and we have no answer to their rush defense. That's just for openers.
