The song helvegan has been so useful in my life. I tear up every single time I hear it. I'm no singer but I read the lyrics aloud to my father as he was passing from cancer. That night I dreamed that I was with him as he was greeted by our ancestors. Perhaps it was just a dream, but I believe that somehow I was able to help him pass over.

I am Ukrainian and now our nation is experiencing a cultural renaissance. We began to remember our ancestors, connect with them, our culture. I really love Wardruna's work, I understand what you talked about in the interview, it is very relevant and important to remember who you are and who your ancestors were. Einar's music is incredible, I am fascinated by Scandinavian music and mythology

Ancestor veneration in culture is, I believe, one of the elements that makes a culture healthy and gives it longevity. So much of the toxicity and unhealthy practices of modern society exist because of an actual disconnection from the past, which more often than not results in people cherry-picking from the past without bringing the reality of it forward into modern times. I'm glad Ukraine is experiencing such a renaissance. Slava Ukraine

Helvegen is so important to my family. After my father passed, we listened to, and sang this song for him. I was so proud of him; he grew up Catholic, but his only request of me at his funeral was to recite the "Viking Prayer", which I did to the attending soldier's confusion, lol! And Einar is a treasure... We had the honor of attending his concert in Seattle in October, and it was simply life changing. My husband said he felt "invited" by Einar and all of Wardruna to join this powerful animist movement. We need "Skalds" like Einar; we need their artistic interpretation. Wonderful interview!

Fascinating interview with two Brilliant Skulls! :) To learn about Skaldic poetry is so important, because Europe misses those thousands of years from it's history books, what Einar talks about. Even further - any complex research of music, archeoastronomy and genetics (in the most recent paleoanthropology) shows a complete difference - from what we learnt: Ireland-Scotland, but Each European country preserved a way further paleolithic culture (in inclusions, habits) rooted back 200k years

It's funny how things are simply destined to be, been feeling poorly last few days and this popped up yesterday evening so I saved this until just now. Really great relaxed honest interview from 2 guys who completely understand and are living the path of the soul. It felt like I was sitting there with you, the time absolutely flew by. Truth is we are all part of the web of knowledge and are all u undergoing our own Earthly experiences, I believe there is an awakening of consciousness, and knowing there are scholars who speak so clearly with words of resonance and personal truth through research and own experiences allow the listener to take stock of their own experiences. Social media by and large is something that I'm not fond of, however it does have its uses, and seeing and listening to this grounded conversation has made me feel so much better. Have a wonderful day all, and a gracious thank you to the maker and Mr Selvik, you will live on through your music, your songs and poetry brother.

I think what is underrated is language and spelling, casting spells, in it self and the power of suggestion through spelling. I think at huge part of runes is creating a field of conciousness which becomes concious in it self, in a very real way, and they way that this field is nudged and recreated is through suggestions. Relation creates conciousness.

  • @worldofsimulacra

Listening to Einar talking about his approach to working with the runes in music and creation immediately reminded me of Daniel Higgs of the band Lungfish (*highly* recommended) and how he sees himself as a vessel for the music, nature and creation to speak through him. Creating and holding sacred space through chant, repetition, trance etc. We tend to think of such states as "mystical" but only because we've been so cut off from them in the modern world. The ancient and primal world is still here, all around us and within us, spanning across all times - we just get so distracted navigating the current round of facade that we forget much of what we all once knew, deeply and intuitively.

The Wardruna+Aurora Version of Helvegen has captions in English 😄 Also there are a lot of interpretations of the song in different languages already! I'm not sure if there is (a good) one in English, but for anyone interested (and maybe able to speak) check the polish version from the bands Dziwoludy and Żniwa, it's wording is awesome! The sound is not as ethereal as Wardruna, it has more of an "earthly-vibe" to it, but still great.
