My family is Swedish primarily, so I don't think he minded that I sang this to him as he lay dying, singing him into his death-sleep. My voice broke as I sang and cried. This song is immensely healing for me. I will never think of it the same way again, it will always be the song I sang my father to his final peace with.

I really like what he said about the old songs being gone and that we need to make new ones. There is too much wallowing in the past and we need to move forward. Instead of wishing for things to be like they once were we need bring our norse culture with us into the future and braid it into our modern culture while still keeping in touch with it and respecting it and our ancestors.
