- Author and magician Stephen Skinner returns to Watkins Books as he presents this brand new edition of Aleister Crowley's “BOOK FOUR (Liber ABA)”, published via Watkins Publishing.Written in the early twentieth century, the four books contained within this collection make up one of the most complete and groundbreaking works on the practice of magick ever written. They are considered to be the masterpiece of occultist, magician and philosopher Aleister Crowley and the core texts for the religion of Thelema. Their influence on alternative western thought and philosophy cannot be exaggerated.
Also known as ‘Book Four’, or Liber ABA, the four parts bring together many rituals, received texts, theorems and unequalled insights into the practice of magick, culminating in The Book of the Law, the central, sacred text dictated to Crowley by a preternatural entity. Anyone interested in yoga, ceremonial magic, esoteric thought, invocation, divination and beyond, or those looking to delve into the fascinating, playful and illuminating writings of a unique man, will find inspiration.
For the first time, one of the world’s leading experts on Western esoteric traditions and magic, Dr. Stephen Skinner, introduces the text, sharing his insights into Crowley’s take on yoga, ceremonial magick and Thelema. His long involvement with magick, both as an academic and as a practitioner, enabled Dr. Skinner to highlight the differences between the psychological and the spirit-orientated approaches to magick, and to show how that dilemma shaped Crowley’s practice and his founding of Thelema, enlightening the reader to many previously unknown connections.
This talk is introduced by Etan Ilfeld, the owner of Watkins.

Mr. Skinner,
During my career as a police officer I occasionally had to deal with people professing to be witches or magicians that committed criminal activities, quite often using children. Desiring to better understand the deviant behavior we had been dealing with I began reading about Wicca, Magick, and other occult subjects. I quickly realized that the individuals we had been dealing with really knew nothing about what they pretended to be, and used just enough knowledge to play out their perversions and control others. The more books I read by popular occult authors and publishers the more I enjoyed. I was introduced to your books through Llewellyn Publications. I am retired now. I really enjoyed reading them until I was partially blinded in an accident. I've had numerous eye surgeries in attempts to regain my vision to no avail, but I still read as much as I can when I am able. I use a magnifying glass now. It's a bit of a strain and goes a lot slower but I'm not going to be discouraged to the point of stopping. Keep up the excellent work. Thank you.
🙏🏾🙏🏾
The Demons blinded you to stop studying.

a Warning to the curious...
basically sounds like what leftist are doin' after ALLEGEDLY reading the manifesto and such...
Thank you for the opportunity to hear your story, Terry. Praying for your sight and for your reading as you like! All the best!
It's pretty amazing that you had the curiosity and forethought to actually learn about magic from what you were experiencing as an officer. God bless you. I always say everyone should learn at least a bit about it as it's being used on them every day. In ways they couldn't even imagine.
Anything using kids is what I would call black magic. A term many occultists don't like as they are married to the mantra "The enlightened man is above good and evil"
I'm happy to remain dim. 😂
I just realized that Crowley's drawing of LAM is actually of Skinner.
I felt the same way about the magician on the cover of Techniques of Graeco-Egyptian Whatevers

I'm still reading this behemoth... And thank you Stephen for pointing out when Crowley was wrong, and too self righteous.
He changed it? But it was so intricately written.
Flaws are necessary in Crowley's stuff - they are always on purpose -
Can't believe a person who isn't a magician could be above it all
Oh, I forgot the world I live in , yeah its possible - they edit Twain books, back then and now.
First ones to edit did it on "the confessions"
I'd like to hear what skinner knows about Helena Blavatsky i think it would be interesting.
Just when I was thinking of doing Agrippa again, I find another deep dive into Magick. I haven't touched Crowley this deep in at least 30 years.
The book arrived today, beautiful cover. Off to never-never-land.
Ah another aggripa person thought I was the only one
I loved this ! 👏 I can’t wait to visit Watkins book store again, my favourite place to find rare magical findings 👌
He made sense of some things many other high profile Thelemites had not or were not able. And I talked to a few them enough to get the sense they were dodging the questions as much as possible.
Big Stephen Skinner fan
When i was young, an entity would bully me every day. One day I got tired of being bullied, so i stood my ground, We came to an agreement that I wanted to stop being weak, i wanted success and power and that I would be the vessel as long as I was given free will. It happened. Many interesting things had unfolded in my life including the learning the secrets of the occult through many astral projections and interactions with my familiar and other magik users. One day i decided to walk my own path and reject the pact I had made years earlier. I lost everything.... Ended up begging at churches for food and clothing, dispised the congregations but found my own path in Christ. I have no regrets, my life is now as it should be i suppose.

April 8,9 & 10 1904 were the 3 days of reception, rather than as Dr.Skinner says the 18th,19th,and 20th.

its pretty straight forward to split the audio so it plays on both channels.

thanks for finally putting this up

The disagreement of entities being within the mind and outside is interesting. I think both should be taken into consistent. Reminds me of the theory of gravity, something is pulling down but also one can argue that it’s something pushing down
what are its main differences compared to the blue Liber ABA? Can't decide which to get between the two
OTO didn't deceide they owned Crowley, it was the other way around. OTO, a German illuminati organistion, contacted Crowley because of a passage in one of his books and claimed that Crowley had published & revealed their "secret" - this lead to they made Crowley the leader of OTO in English speaking countries. He revised their rituals and made them much more streamlined towards his GD training and Liber Al. OTO decided that Crowley was later the OHO of the order and gave him the responsibility to see to that OTO survived and thrived. Something he surely did. Stephen you clearly know a lot, but please do not spread misinformation.
based on all of ac's systematic errors like skinner states, maybe a reconsideration of chaos magick ( imagination ) reconciles it all.
Im not a huge fan of the man, but it's nice to see someone say Crowley's name right😅
Actual discussion starts at 5:00 minutes
Dr. Skinner also states at 51:18 that he believes there were is "an argument between at least four spirit entities", and again at 53:01 "I believe that the transmission came from at least four different entities". What were these entities?
Without wishing to offend: It should be clear to all that Skinner's comments on the origins of Liber Al vel Legis are merely his own "opinions". They are based on his own "speculations" and "theories". They are not grounded in Direct Esoteric Experience. They are certainly not "proof" of anything sufficient to overthrow Crowley's interpretation of how he (AC) personally evaluated, believed and concluded that he "received" Liber Al. But what is behind these claims? Sour grapes perhaps? Magickal envy?
- What are Dr. Skinner's own magickal experiences and experientially-conferred initiations that he is so "certain" about what happened to Crowley on April 8, 9 and 10, 1904 ... Yes, please at least get the DATES right!
- (At 50:43 Skinner states "...and Horus then gave them three dates. Um. April 18 19 and 20.")
Regardless of what anyone might think of Crowley as an individual, it would be very difficult to argue that he was a charlatan when it came down to actual accrued magickal (and worldly) experience and hard-earned (through diligance and dedication) esoteric knowledge. One could well ask who will remember Crowley, for his immense (and unparalleled) continuing contribution to the world of modern esotericism, vs who will remember a "publisher" of some books, most of which hardly anyone has even read.
To be more scathing, ...It's possible that Skinner may fit well into the category that Crowley defined as (and warned against) the "Black Brothers"...those who refuse to renounce their own egos when faced with the ordeal of passing through Daath, and fail accordingly, being effectively locked out of the supernals, and not even attaining to the Grade of Magister Templi.
- Which of Dr. Skinner's "four spirit entities" warns thus in Liber Al: "For one kiss wilt thou then be willing to give all; but whoso gives one particle of dust shall lose all in that hour".
Dr/ Skinner further clouds the matter by contradicting himself (from 58:33): "..um i have never experienced anything but very short bursts of sound communication and it's it's mostly gabbled." Hecontinues, confusing the issue even more: "...um i think passing it through a scryer who will interpret it in their own head and then speak....that is fine ,and that's why i'm 99% sure that Rose Crowley was scrying and speaking and it wasn't a disembodied voice". Adding just seconds later : "So i'm not going to say that Rose was in there. I'm going to say it was in an empty room".
???
So Rose was "scrying and speaking" but she wasn't "in there", because "it was an empty room"? How does that work?
I wonder if this fellow knew that Crowley contructed his temple in his mind. He supposedly completed the ritual in his mind. Anyone who doubts this doesn't know Crowleys resolve.
Questioner: Aleister Crowley wrote _“Do what thou wilt is the whole of the law.”_ He was obviously in understanding, to some extent, of the Law of One. Where is this entity now?
_Ra: I am Ra. This entity is within your inner planes. This entity is in an healing process._
18.11 ▶ Questioner: Did this entity, then, even though he intellectually understood the Law of One, misuse it and therefore have to go through this healing process?
_Ra: I am Ra. This entity became, may we use the vibration sound complex, overstimulated with the true nature of things. This over-stimulation resulted in behavior that was beyond the conscious control of the entity. The entity thus, in many attempts to go through the process of balancing, as we have described the various energy centers beginning with the red ray and moving upwards, became somewhat overly impressed or caught up in this process and became alienated from other-selves._
_This entity was positive. However, its journey was difficult due to the inability to use, synthesize, and harmonize the understandings of the desires of self so that it might have shared, in full compassion, with other-selves._
_This entity thus became very unhealthy, as you may call it, in a spiritual complex manner, and it is necessary for those with this type of distortion towards inner pain to be nurtured in the inner planes until such an entity is capable of viewing the experiences again with the lack of distortion towards pain."_

I wanted to buy the Skinner edition but when i saw reviews of the poor quality it is made of i'll pay a few euro's more to buy the Blue Brick. I like the cover art, but come on pay some attention to the quality!!
wow
Crowley did complete Abramelin on the back of the pony, he had everything he required in his head including the Oratory etc remember he played Chess blind folded and at one instance played two opponents and won both games which is incredible visualization. So I side with Crowley rather than Mr Skinner, Crowley completed Abramelin, on one occasion he was so engrossed with the ritual he did not notice he and the pony had fallen down a 30 foot drop, fortunately neither were hurt or not seriously. Please give me your opinions and what you believe is true.
Crowley did not complete the Abramelin Operation. He gave up after only 3 months into the process, right after he conjured the Demonic Dukes & principalities.
And he ended up paying the ultimate price for not staying dedicated and devoted to the oath and path he started.
He ended up dying as a possesed debauched lecher, Penniless, a drug addict and alone.
Although there is some beneficial knowledge in Crowley's writings.
Crowley himself is in no way whatsoever a Hero or Magical Path Role Model.
If anything he is a real life cautionary tale. Reminiscent of the Renaissance Story of Faust and Mephistopheles.
@@jakerobinhoodson4136 each of us have an opinion but the completion of the Abramelin on the back of a pony through visualization was a supreme act of concentration, that the two of them went over a small cliff which Crowley realized after the fact so I do hold that he completed the rite albeit in a unique way.
I would go for Skinner's version. As these sort of operations, are not do it how you feel it, they have to be very precise.
@@jakerobinhoodson4136 well at least he wasn't in it for the money.
Whether Crowley received the Knowledge of and Conversation with his Holy Guardian Angel or not, he did not complete the Abramelin.
You don't complete the Abramelin on the back of a pony.
Creepy. I’m a Christian but I said a prayer before watching this. We must know what we are facing in the end times. Which is, now times.
Amusingly, I have met atheists who thought religion was creepy. It is all very funny to me.
Christianity is fake! There are no end times pertaining to the earth not existing. Only the end of an era!

@@azsx299I know this comment is old but that made me laugh!
What would be the DIFFERENCE between if the "spirits are in our head or outside? If as it is INSIDE, it is OUTSIDE, as it is ABOVE, IS DOWN, it is all consciousness, there is no separation, we are all one! affections!
It's the difference between an insane person and someone who is not insane being haunted, that's a big difference
I disagree...Because spirits are an entity in their own right separate to us in this dimension, I think you might believe that Spirituality & Magick are the same thing which is incorrect, they are both separate and should be practice as such for your own safety.
@@tararoast Hello, thanks for commenting and disagreeing with me, the perception of an external entity is an illusion of the brain, since 2 cells do not see that they form a single body, the perception of separativity is a perception of this plane, but it is unity in other higher planes I believe that by communicating with an entity you are communicating with a part of yourself, thank you!
@@FedeLux I appreciate your constructive reply, it's food for thought. ✌
@@tararoast They're separate from us in this dimension (which is why magic even works) but in higher dimensions they become one under the rulership of God because all spirits are just images and projections of God in unification with Man

The “storyteller” is Dr Stephen Skinner. Greco-Roman, Feng Shui and Solomonic grimoire expert and a foremost authority on all aspect and generations of magick and the occult. The whole video is his introduction to his own edition of Aleister Crowley’s Magnus opus, Magick ✌🏻
