- Hello Sewing Friends. I'm learning a new fitting method that involves the HBL - Horizontal Balance Line. It's very interesting and I hope you find it useful.

I learned a lot from this, about pants fitting. Thanknyou.
I have that book too and like you never did a deep dive into it. Thanks for the info
Thanks for sharing some good information and being willing to put yourself out there. I am challenged to make good-fitting pants not that my body has changed with age. I am getting that book from the library and will give it a try. Thanks for the encouragement.
Great explanation on HBL. It all makes sense to me now.
It seemed too warm to be making pants, but now I’m ready! This video was helpful, and I have that book too.
Oh, Miss Polly! This video was so interesting! I am looking forward to seeing the alterations on the paper pattern. You have a calm and approachable demeanor. I love your channel. Best wishes from Florida.
Thanks, Lorraine. You are such a nice person!! I appreciate and really enjoy hearing from you. I'll be interested to get my adjustments done as well as this is a new process. Although it's fun learning, it's still a little hard - lol
This was super interesting and I’m excited about watching the videos in this series! Thank you so much for sharing your progress! 💞
You are so welcome, Izzy. I've been working more on my pants fitting and I'm really liking how things are coming along. I'm hoping to have an update and more info on my Tuesday video!
The first time I saw the HBL technique (which was only a few weeks ago) my mind was blown! I haven’t pursued it yet, so I’m really interested in your videos about the method. When you go shopping for your fabrics it will be so much fun! The red fabric looked great with your coloring, Carol. Your face brightened up immensely. I hope you’ll end up loving it! 😘
You've always had great judgement Lynn so I trust you when you say the red fabric looks good on me! I'm sure I'll end up loving it too. How are coming along on your Frocktails outfit? Are you making something new or wearing something you've already made?
Very informative video. It’s helpful you are showing the process of fitting your pants.
Glad you think so, Lori! Thank you for watching and commenting 🧵🪡
Hi Carol, this is a most informative and enjoyable video 😊. I have the exact same book and will use it over the next month or so as I would like to sew up some linen trousers using one of the Love Notions patterns. I am pretty sure I have similar fitting issues to you and I will be most interested to see your progress. Gosh - up to 10 toiles - that is a lot - I hope you manage to perfect your toile in 5 tries or less. The fabric you purchased in the soft autumn tonings is so pretty and should suit you beautifully. Happy sewing. 🌸🌸
Hi Carol, I love this video. I’m going to order this book today. I never heard of HBL but, I was kind of doing it unknowingly. I made a toile of some pants out of a plaid fabric and noticed even though the plaids were sewn straight, when I put them on, they seriously dipped in the center and the back waistline didn’t meet my waist so I added more fabric at the waist also but, it didn’t fix the problem. I’ve been watching J Stern’s fitting tips and they have been invaluable. I think like you, learning where to lengthen and shorten the crotch makes all the difference in the fit of your trousers. I unfortunately haven’t had a chance to start my McCalls trousers but, I’ve planned a little free time for next week so, I hope to get to them then. I also have that sweater pattern, I’m going to pull it out too, and hopefully by the end of next week, I’ll have a cute fall outfit, that fits well.
Hi Stelly! I've watched J Sterns as well and think she's great too. It's taking me longer to make my McCall's trousers, but I'd rather it take a long time and get a better fit than to get them done quick with just an OK or so-so fit. I have so many projects I want to do, but I need to stay focused. Hope to see you again on Saturdays!
@@pollysews I’ll be there, I had a lot of fun.
Oh, I feel very tired just thinking about making 8 to 10 toiles to get a good fit on pants!!! However, if it results in a block that can be adapted to other patterns, or is a versatile pattern that can be used again and again it would be well worth it. I have McCall's 8240 but have not tried it yet and am eager to see how your new one turns out - love that sweater knit and it seems perfect for it!
Hey Carol. I’ve made that sweater pattern. I like it but the finishing of the placket wasn’t clean. I ended up putting bias tape down to try and cover up the edge on the inside. I would suggest doing a placket that you fold over making a clean edge inside. The top of the shirt lays open so it is on display.
Thanks Kaye!❤️
When does she start? Not by 2 minutes ... 3:00 something about crosshairs ... 3:30 giving up.
