The way Premier chops his beats, they never sound dated. It's not old school or new school, it's Hip hop at it's finest.
It's just plain school!
The man literally takes you to school with his beats!
Enough said facts 💯 💯
Plus, Not Only Did He Chop Guitar From That Joe Simon Joint, He Chopped a Recording of Grandmaster Flash on The Beat Box Live From Harlem World on You Know My Steez. Yeah, Preemo is Definitely One of My Fave Producers and Gang Starr Definitely One of My Fav. Crews, if Not My Fav. RIP Guru.
The mass appeal sample is genius
617 For Life! Hell yeah ..... quick ears on that one
Couldn't believe when i first heard it. that half second of a song been running through my head for almost 15 years now!
617 For Life! It was so easy to flip . Guru just killed it with guys bars
I agree 100% Premo is the fucking goat
My favorite song and top 5 beat
this just shows how dope Primo is. Alot of these are 4 sec samples chopped to hell.
Clark Townsend exactly, i appreciate when a producer changes a sample not just puts it in the background
Neat that a dude from Houston would have such a defining role in creating the sound of New York hip hop. I'm speaking of DJ Premier of course.
In reality it was a dude from Houston and a guy from boston
This DJ wears the coolest t-shirts (:
And the best Dj Culture baby!!!!!!! No joke no games ... Salut! Asewe!
To all those who say "where's the talent in any of this?": This is why hip hop matters. Premier shows you it's doing the deep dive, finding those usable musical nuggets from the crates, using them to build something new and fresh, while helping us rediscover forgotten classics by the likes of Ahmad Jamal, Monk Higgins, Vic Juris. Also shows you just how much appreciation both Primo and Guru had for classic jazz. Long list here. Thank you, VinRican! Great, simple instructional.
Those sample videos are dope af, Premier is a genius when it comes to producing!
h
o
I'LL TAKE ANY PREMIER BEAT OVER ANY OF THAT TRAP CORNY BULLSHIT, REAL TALK!!!!!!
GrilliTheFace2 Premier cannot be equalled
He finesses the original sample as far as I'm concerned
Goldville facts
Man the way that mass appeal sample fell through!
who else tries to guess the song while the sample song is being played?
Daniel Garcia Daniel Garcia If you are a true hardcore Gang Starr fan than the songs name should come to your mind instantly
Yes
EJ some do but I had no idea Full Clip sampled Cal Tjadas’ Walk On By!
Here
@@ej8014 I missed only 1
Moment of Truth is my favorite song ..and always will be
Chain n the Starr forever
_ X my only crime was that I was too damn kind!
I love the whole Gangstarr catalog but that Moment of Truth album is next level!
Young Papi-Yo I totally agree! my first Gang Starr Album was step in the Arena, then the ownerzz and After that Daily Operation and I loved them all but when I got Moment of truth I was blown away. Def in my top 5
i totally agree with u bro
Mass Appeal, man, what a beat
How he got Mass Appeal out of that is straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Preemo is the man, the way he flipped those samples is simply genius!
now this is my favorite hip hop producer here!
Guru without Preemo could it been something very different, thx god they meet each other
Cruggie Well he did the Jazzmatazz albums without Premo and those were great as well.
tabascosauce Man oh yeah the jazzmata's album, I forgot about that, but what I was referring to it was the fact of how important it was to the history of hip hop the fact that Guru and Preemo know each other. greetings bro
Cruggie Ah, ok i get it now. Greetings back to you, fellow fan of good Hip Hop :)
Cruggie true
Cruggie one came from Boston other from Texas and they made history in Brooklyn..
Moment of truth is so timeless, one of the best hip hop albums ever made! rip guru and props to dj premier and dj vinrican for this video! Made my day fam!

J S i have been watching these videos discovering new dope songs the whole time
Me too
The thing that grabs your attention about the beats is the way Premo injects so much funk in em .Absolutely iconic legendary Producer hands down
ahh, 'Mass Appeal.' I STILL use that as my regular iphone ring tone. Can't wait to get a call.
;-)
Can I get you number 🤣?
Pete Rock, Dre and Premier are one of my favourite producers. Others, Timbo and Storch
I always viewed Scott Storch mainly as a pianist rather than a producer
Tom P u not a real producer u just a piano man xD
Havoc, RZA, Madlib, J Dilla,...
Can’t forget dilla
Jari Dre , i just don't know
One bar and the loop beautifully goes away…Mass Appeal. That felt like a hug from Jesus.
Mass Appeal still my favorite 2018
DJ Kool Herc, Grand Master Flash, DJ Marly Marl, Jay Dilla, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Jam Master Jay. Good old days.
top greatest favorite Dj premiere j dilla mam chi kanye west old 9th wonder
I also hear the other parts sampled by other producers. sometimes sampling is like getting meat off of a thanksgiving turkey after the holidays lol
samurai3071 sampling is turkey sandwiches week after Thanksgiving is over
Natulius is a fat bird lol. Over 300 songs from one record.
only the tru greats preem ,rza, havoc etc have the ear to hear the art in which such simple sounds will create masterpieces when sampled......its a god givin talent to create like that.....sometimes when I see the sample im like ....we got this ....from that? lol
This is so sweet!!

The mastery of DJ Premier...
The way you presented this is SO fuckin Hip Hop my G. I myself was raised on The Chain and the Star!!! Gang Starr is the foundation of my sound and my approach period to production but with my own mind ya feel me? Salute to your video and channel peace.....
Xacrias Uhdheen didn't preem say mf's was violating?
Sea Thizzo Absolutely, but that was back when cats was doin business differently, the spirit of what he said still holds true today but if I understand you correctly, this video is all love and homage with well known samples that I'm sure Preem been got clearance for.
these samples are 'one of the best yet'. Great video!
I just gotta have that T-shirt . I will always remember that Moment Of Truth album cover to . Guru was looking at Premo like a matidoor looks at a bull , and I thought that it was the coolest thing I had ever seen in middle school .
Ironically Premier hates "Sample Snitching" you should've put his skit in your routine as a joke
Bruce Leeds I came here to make the exact same comment
Lmao that's what I thought too but that was before the internet was huge and easily accessible by everyone so now you got websites like Genius and WhoSampled that have all that info.
Thanks for the upload brother
That "Misdemeanor" sample got the Dr Dre "Funky Enough" bassline from D.O.C.'s single....
classsssssic
Was wondering if "Soliloquy of Chaos" was going to make an appearance, then you dropped the Ahmad Jamal sample (starting it on the "Black Smif n Wessun" sample) and there it was, my favorite Premier loop. 👌👍
That JFK TO LAX WAS GLORIOUS
Step In The Arena is such a great album, Here Today, Gone Tomorrow is one of Preemo's greatest beats, amongst the many...
I love Rite Where U Stand!!! That sounded so dope! All of them did, but I really like that one. Love Gang Starr. R.I.P. Guru we miss you dearly. 😔😔😔

RIP GURU!!!!!....A cat from Texas and a cat from Boston......They made that real New York sound. My favorite Duo of all time. GangStarrrrrrrrrr
Eversince I saw the video for Manifest ...I was a Gangstar fanatic....from Premo producing other artists including Jeru and the Group Home to GURU branching out with the Jazzmatazz albums, utilizing live musicians...it has been a beautiful journey and it hurt when GURU passed away,,,,but the music is timeless because it was created from elements of classic jazz and soul....Gangstar Forever!
