I've had very little contact with the wealthy. But there are a couple of occasions that stand out. One woman was in criminal court for an impaired driving charge. It’s all kinds of fucked up, but has become the norm.
No they wouldn’t. These were class E felonies. People generally don’t get incarcerated for class E felonies. New York is also a state which has gotten rid of cash bail, so if you’re not a violent risk to the public or an obvious flight risk they’re not going to put you in jail. This case was never going to land Trump in prison. The election case in Georgia, or maybe even the one in D.C. would be the ones most capable of doing that.
You hope he gets jail time for supposedly falsifying business records that didn't hurt anyone? You hope he gets sent to prison... for that...? As a first time offender? Non violent crime? Another important question is, What now for the American judicial system? Indeed, great damage was done today to the public’s faith in the American legal system. If a former President can be criminally convicted over such a trivial matter - motivated by politics, rather than justice - then anyone is at risk of a similar fate. Americans who live in one-party states/areas (90% of Manhattan voters supported Biden in 2020) should fear having some kind of politically driven prosecution if they step on the wrong toes. I’m totally with you on this, ok I’m British and our legal system is a bit different to yours but this is how it would’ve gone down in the UK: “I would like to thank the jury for their steadfast diligence in this matter, now would the defendant please rise, you have been found guilty of all counts in this matter and throughout these proceedings have shown no remorse but instead a level of contempt that I find hard to understand, it is therefore my duty to sentence you to the maximum period possible for your crimes, I sentence you to 8 years in jail, will the bailiffs take him down”. At the start of his business empire, Richard Branson was charged with customs and excise fraud in 1971. He knowingly committed fraud to get ahead of the competition. The charge can carry a prison sentence of up to 10 years, but he avoided prison because his parents remortgaged their house to help him pay a £70,000 fine plus the recovered tax at 33%. In 1971 £70,000 would be worth over £1,000,000 today. Branson has often said that his parents weren't wealthy even though his father was a barrister. Really? How many people today can afford that kind of money to avoid a prison sentence for their children?

You don't even know the reason, do you? They railroaded him. They took a misdemeanor charge and conflated it to 34 felonies. And no I'm not supporting Trump.
Imagine being so rich that you could put up a fuss and crap on your own country with no consequences, and even if you do get convicted of a felony you will never see the inside of a jail cell.
I'm gonna laugh my ass off as I type this, but to answer your last question Aron, Trump is going to receive judgment and punishment from God in the afterlife...LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL...sorry...so much wrong with that sentence.
Found guilty on 34 class E felony charges. I say the DA and prosecutors push to charge at least the minimum jail sentence of 1 year for each charge. That's 34 years. Then if they're nice about it then cut a thirdx or half off. Thats at least 17 years jail time. Fines means nothing to "rich" people, and probation wont do anything.
You’d think you’d have figured this out by now. There are three factors that determine in a person will get justice. The more of them you have, the less likely you’ll get punished and if you do, the punishment will be more diminished the more you have. The factors are 1. Are you white? 2. Are you rich? 3. Are you or a family member in politics? Trump has all three. In addition to this, I am absolutely convinced that presidents have a secret agreement that none will prosecute a predecessor and will do anything they can to make sure the predecessors are never jailed for any crime during their presidency. I am convinced of this because every time Trump or one of his minions (Bannon, Giuliani, Flynn, Stone etc…) has come close something happens last minute that just pulls them out of it or delays the trials. I am certain that Biden is telling the left leaning judges to find a way to let him slide. That’s the ONLY possible rational explanation I can think of for the SCOTUS UNANIMOUSLY?!) ruling that decided Trump had to be on the Colorado ballot and refusing to decide if he committed an insurrection.
I spent more time for a lot less in various cells. The Rich and the Poor truly live in completely different worlds. Its like one of those sci-fi plots where there's 2 dimensions occupying the same space but yet they barely ever if at all interact with each other.
This won't change his loyalists' minds. They have just as much faith in their new god Trump as they do in their old Bible God. Anyway, he'll just get the maximum fine as a sentence, which won't be nearly enough to actually damage him, and while he COULD get jail time, he won't.
We have a stupid system. Trump's lawyers will appeal and the case will not tie up before November's election run. IF Trump wins everyone can pretty much forget about this case.
With any luck, with Trump's cognitive decline, if he is reelected... he'll be sitting in the Oval Office thinking, 'What is it I do here again? Is this The Apprentice?'

You’d think you’d have figured this out by now. There are three factors that determine in a person will get justice.
