Is anyone here because of James Earl Jones? This legend of cinema, associated with iconic characters like Darth Vader, Mufasa and King of Zamunda and his equally iconic voice, left us today.
Rest in Peace, James Earl Jones(1931-2024).

1:11 God this part is one of my favorites, I can still see Scar just walking across. Watching it all happen. The energy in that movement was just...AHHH

2:20 first time i ever cried watching a movie, such a sad scene. Hans Zimmer said himself that this score first appealed to him because of his father's death at such a young age, and that this song was a homage to his father.

I always cry at 2:20 as well your not alone. Mufasa gave up his life just to save his son. And the way he looked at scar right before he died tears me up everytime. I bet Mufasa loved his brother no matter how evil he was he seemed like he wanted him there at his sons birth and the circle of life part... and scar was just a mean uncle and brother to mufasa and Simba. The way he acts all innocent when "trying" to comfort his nephew gets me everytime😭😭😭😭

I love how the first half captures the true panic invoked with a stampede, while the last half captures the feeling of seeing a family member dying/dead (especially at 3:19, idk why but I always thought that, if people at a funeral crying was converted into music, it would sound like that). Hans Zimmer is a musical genius, and he deserves all the praise he can get.

That progression of notes right where you pinpointed shows itself at other crucial parts of the film, most notably when Mufasa shows himself to Simba in the clouds and right before Simba claims pride rock. I always thought of it as the "trademark" of the Lion King soundtrack.

This music is honestly terrifying, why doesn't music have this amount of emotion in it these days? This sounds so terrifying at the beginning with the shouting and then so sad at the end. You don't even have to watch the scene to feel the emotions
Edit: this is my opinion my dudes. I get it, you have a different opinion. I also made this 2 years ago. I've watched all the superhero movies, I play the games, I hear the soundtracks all right. This one just hits different. You can stop insulting me now

Kelsey Curles No, they're absolutely correct. True, video games & SOME of today's music is decent, but it doesn't hold the faintest flicker of a flame to what it USED to. Also, to be fair, we're comparing the motherfucking LION KING, which is always better than pretty much everything today ever. And this specific soundtrack was composed by the musical GOD that is Hans Zimmer. Nothing even comes *_CLOSE_* to his work.

    Scar:Simba, what have you done?
Simba: The wildebeest. He tried to save me. It was an accident. I didn't mean for it to happen.
Scar: Of course, of course you didn't. No one ever mean for these things to happen. But the king is dead. If it weren't for you, he'd still be alive.
Simba: What am I gonna do?
Scar: Run away, Simba. Run. Run away and never return!

This is hands down one of the best pieces of music for any movie. You can feel the emotion in it. From Mufas's frantic race to reach Simba, to Scar's betrayal. Then finally Simba's grief and horror as he believes Scar when he tells him he's responsible I for his father's death. Amazing work, gives me chills and brings me to tears.

1:11 is by far my favorite part you can hear the suspense of mufasa trying to protect simba while also trying to survive, but you can hear that sinister hint of when scar is calmly watching to see his brother and nephew get trampled to death, such a damn good piece

The best part for me is around 1:46 to 1:52. Very Climactic. It would go well with a heroic sacrifice/death in a Film, TV Show, Video Game, or me in the shower pretending to climb and fall the way Mufasa did.

As a child, I was not ready for this. Thinking back on it, this scene is very likely to be why I preferred to watch the second movie - because its experience is far less harsh. But what devastated me the most wasn't Mufasa lying dead on the ground. It was him jumping and clawing at the rocky cliff, his noble face distorted in pain and fear - followed by his horror at Scar's betrayal. Because in that instant I could feel the dreaded terror of one's last moments,a terror of childhood that still haunts me today.

This scene is so intense I literally have to take a pause in the middle of it! My goodness this is one of the saddest scenes that I've certainly seen and in movie history! Absolutely tragic, it can really break your heart and it does for me! The moment Mufasa falls down is just terrifying just absolutely terrifying! A mix of horror and sadness and seeing Simba up there screaming! Just don't have any words to describe the intensity and horror in that moment! Never forgets that moment when I first saw it! Then when Simba realizes his father is dead and runs screaming for help is where I totally break down honestly! It never fails to give me tears in my eyes even as a grown up now and it does as I am writing this! Poor Poor Simba!😢😢 Every time I see this scene, I always want to jump in there, hug that little guy so much and take care of him and tell him it's gonna be alright!😢😢

When composing this, Hans Zimmer wasn’t that interested in the movie. But then he realizes it was a story about a child losing his father.
And then he immediately thought of his own father that died when he was young himself.
So Hans made this as a Requiem for his father, that’s why the emotion is very powerful here.
