    I rebuilt a 2002 1200 Sportster after my son totaled the front end: New forks, fender, wheel, bars, tank, brakes (master cylinder, cables, levers) clutch and cables, instrument cluster & headlight including housing. Once I got started, I ordered new rear fender, seat, and foot pegs, brake pedal and shifter. My favorite story from rebuild, the forks I ordered apparently came off a 02 sportster produced in 2001, whereas mine was mid year 02 and the caliper and disk were on the left side of the wheel/fork, but the 01 was on the right. Short version we were able to salvage enough of the left fork from the crashed parts and the "new" left fork to reassemble. the funny part was my dad (the real mechanic) had not thought about frankensteining parts to make what we needed. It worked out great. I'll add I did all my own powder coating on the rebuild as well to save a ton of $$$. when it was done it looked more like a softtail, larger tank, duck tail rear fender, shorty front fender, halo headlight, solo seat...... SOLD it for double what I paid for it including the cost of the rebuild. She was a beaut!

    I have a 79 Lowrider that I rebuilt the master cylinder’s front and rear and I also rebuilt the calipers. For me the main thing is to make sure everything is clean.

    Good to see you again Beth! Builds happen at their own pace. Assemble, disassemble, adjust, reassemble, repeat. Dont rush for the video's sake. We're entertained in all ways lol.

    While your ordering parts get a gasket kit for your carb. The reason your getting fuel in the oil is usually the carb overflowing into the engine

      I cut out the part of the video where I discuss how my carb float issues earlier on in the build probably cause it.

    1977 XLH here. I have rear drum brake issues. The rear wheel will not spin freely like there is a high spot it’s catching on. When I tighten down the anchor bolt it makes it worse. What should I be looking for?

    It should not. Use the adjustment on the outside to snug it up a bit . Hold the balls in place with a small dab of axle grease so they dont fall out while you are adjusting it

    That is a crack inside the primary case you should at least get it welded up or replace it whever you can afford anyway good luck

    • @BikerBabeBeth
      @BikerBabeBeth  Месяц назад

      Hey Pat. With more research that is a line from casting the original case. Not a crack! Thank goodness

    Man, DON'T get rid of that tank!!!... I can show ya how to derust that thing, AND seal it permanently for less than 40 bux!!....also, glass fuel filters have burned many a bike to the ground!!(I wont install them, and STRONGLY recommend to my customers to not use them!!)....

    • @JoeTheMountainJedi
      @JoeTheMountainJedi Месяц назад +2

      Also, that's a casting line in the primary cover.....no worries there

    • @BikerBabeBeth

      Glass fuel filters in the sun I’m assuming? Good to know!!

    • @JoeTheMountainJedi
      @JoeTheMountainJedi Месяц назад

      @@BikerBabeBeth nope....the rubber seals in the ends of the filter housing will shrink up, and start weeping....also, the plastic filter screen in them will shrink, and that also leads to the rubber end seals losing compression/sealing pressure.....I run a pingel billet filter on my daily....it's cleanable, does a good job, and only has 1 oring in it for sealing (and it's a common one, so I replace it whenever I service the fuel filter).... It's spendy, but I do close to 500 miles weekly commuting, and that's if I'm not running around!!
