If you did not find a loose battery connection,, then possibly your coil is dyng. Sometimes they will work cool, but once egine heat builds they will loose fire.
Be sure to check your ground post. Down behind the rear jug by the starter. I had that same problem on my dyna and turns out that it was just loose. Tightened it up and haven't had a problem since.

I wish I would have known you were in town! I was literally 10 minutes away at a poker run. Next year it would be awesome if you come up and join us for at least the parade ride to the first stop. We have had as many as 400 bikes at the poker Run, and every year the start is police escorted, and intersections blocked for us to do a continuous parade from the start to the first stop. Next year the first stop should be the Ohio veterans memorial Park in Clinton Ohio, it is a place worth checking out regardless of a poker run or not
I haven't been to Hale Farm since 1987. It's a great ride and a great place to visit. Hopefully, your Sportster won't give you any serious problems in the future. Weems built an amazing Ironhead Sportster! That Honda Shadow 600 was done right for a smaller displacement metric bike. My fave is the tough guy Shovelhead at 17:08. I like choppers built around drop seat swingarm frames. I liked the fact that bike's frame wasn't raked (just stretched in the down tubes). That EVO chopper at 18:27 is choice. I like the Soutwest vibe of the bike. Ride safe.
On the "it could be worse" side, I was in Cleveland that weekend but spent it in the ICU instead of seeing the show. I was heading to Amanda's Rocky Mountain Roll on my Sporty when a sudden tire blowout sent me skidding sideways down I-90 at 70mph. I got to enjoy 5+ broken ribs, a punctured lung and a slight interior rip in my aorta.
On the bright side my Sporty survived with minimal damage. I just need to swap out the handlebars and a couple cables to be back on the road.
The old girl still runs fine.
You just can't beat a Sportster.

Somewhat rare K- model at 20:44 on vid timer...Didn't see many of those out on the road decades ago.... Appears to be a lot Panheads...One of my favorite Harley engines.... Very nice custom builds at this event. ... Thanks for bringing us along...> You figure out the issue with your Sportster? Hopefully before your ride back...

Hello Beth, check the fuelinjection, in other words have a good look at one of the vlog of Doc Harley. In one of his tech tips vlogs he announced such a problem with the fuel injection. Thanks for showing your day out at the bike event. Cheers.

Gotta be something simple little dirt in your carb fuel filter plugs wires. Maybe coil. Idk start cheap parts first lol carb clean is free if ya do it yourself. 🤷
its the ignition pickup and/ or the coil.

You need a new ignition coil. I'd go ahead and replace the plugs and wires while at it

I worry a lot about fuel stops on my 2020 sportster on long rides. Do you ever get concerned about that on your sportster?
Nah. I always try to plan stops if I know I’m going really far. Otherwise. I’m starting to find a gas stop once I get to like 80 miles in.
Sounds like your voltage regulator is trying to go out or it's connection/pigtail is coming loose. It's that little black box hanging off the front lower part of the frame behind the forks. Only has two bolts that hold it on. Get a Lectron brand if you replace it, not that Amazon Chinese crap. 😉

It could be battery. How old is it. I always carry a device that measures voltage as I'm riding. It measures voltage before starting bike, lets me know how voltage is during the ride and amps.

Maintenance is key
Ironically, I just cleaned and replaced the fuses. I do regularly Maintance on my bike, problems still can happen!

How long has the gas in your tank been in your tank?
Uh, not long at all. I rode 100 miles the day before and rode to almost empty then filled up before this trip to Cleveland which was a bit over 200 miles total that day.
