I love how people are slamming her for her voice and performance but what you don’t realize is that she has stage fright. It’s an issue since the beginning of her career, that’s why she avoids touring. So can we please stop hating on her, cause let’s be honest she is an ICON.
She doesn't avoid touring nowadays. She does Vegas shows, Christmas shows, the caution tour etc... In fact she is more comfortable on tours because it's a fan packed arena. She is more frightened performing on TV for non fans.

To be honest, I'm sad because its not the old Mariah who can sustain notes and whistle that high BUT I still love her vocal squeaks/ cracks, her courage and passion on her art... She's a legend. Many of our best singers here in the Philippines are inspired by her songs and style. Even in karaoke list, its very impossible not to hear someone singing her songs here. If she will go here in Philippines again, theres no doubt her ticket concert will be sold out veryyy fast.

Her only problem is the uncontrollable crack but other than that she still has her belt power, whistle notes and the airy technique.
That uncontrollable crack was caused by nodules. She already tried to control and prevent it with hard onset and extreme compression, she even broke down some of her runs into staccato but it still happened.

I was nervous before this came out because she had a party the night before (she posted it on Twitter, I think it was a birthday). She didn't have as much rest as would have been optimal for such a big stage moment like this. I think if she rested well the night before, she would've had stronger vocals here. But for this performance, it was the songs and her name that carried it through.

Funny how people here reacted about the voice cracks. Mariah does it intentionally, its a style. If you would notice most of her songs has voice cracking in it especially in super high notes. I repeat VOICE CRACKING IS A STYLE. There's a big difference between intentional voice cracking and a damaged throat.
the voice crack here wasn't intentional, but regardless, it turned put beautifully and it didn't even phase her. so no need to be a knight in shining armor when she didn't need defending.
