- Well I never thought I'd find a pre-cruise hotel cheaper than the Grapes in Southampton and BOOM, here comes the Star Hotel! Prices can fluctuate, of course, but I paid just £56 for a double room! Does this prince reflect a very budget hotel and look or is it a surprise gem? Let's find out!

I stayed there once when working in Southampton, I initially turned my nose up but was pleasantly wrong to do so. Your review did it justice and I also would have no qualms about a return stay (perhaps without the turned up nose). Perfect breakfast as well!
I think the saying ‘don’t judge a book…’ comes to mind, doesn’t it? I was like you!
Hi Jamie love the location fantastic and its great that they have ground floor accomadation too the breakfast looked yummy love it well done fantastic video 😊
Thank you 🙏
Great value and that breakfast looked right up my street. Good find Mr R!
You’re not the first to mention that breakfast!
Aaah! I was looking at their family rooms yesterday for our next cruise. I had a huge double there a few years ago and it was great.
Pleased to hear it was good!
Looks nice! We are at home looking across the water at QM2 docked opposite!!Have a great trip!
Thank you 🙏
Jaime , Amanda really liked it. Good value but very cosy. Thank u for sharing
De rien
Definitely great value and breakfast looks great. I'm quite happy with a basic room as long as clean and comfy especially having stayed in small independent hotels in Blackpool as well as chain hotels. I know me and Daniel would have an issue with the bed as we wouldn't both fit in that one as it looks more like a large single bed. One of us would be on the edge and fighting over the duvet.
I’d say a small double rather than large single!
Great review, Thank you Jamie! It looks really interesting. As you say- ideal for a pre or post cruise stay at a reasonable price 🚢
🙏🙏🙏
Hi Jamie. Looks fine to me for one night. After all, you spend less than 24 hours in it before a cruise. We stayed in Room2hometel and that was reasonable and quirky. It’s good that you are trying such a range. Thanks lots.
Thank you Karen
Hi Jamie we have stay in the Grapes and the star hotel a lot when cruise for us the Grapes it’s on Oxford street the stairs to your room are narrow the room is nice and clean you have got about 6&7 restaurants and 2&3 Bars we just love it there we are book again for the Grapes in August and will be our fourth time here nothing wrong with the star hotel but we like Oxford street. Good luck with your cruise
I did a review of the Grapes recently
@@TravelBlogJamiethanks Jamie just seen your video of the Grapes guess what that’s the same room that we get next time will be our 4th time. Thanks again and happy cruising ❤
@@tombrown8281 small world!!
Looks like a great breakfast and a decent room. Seems like a great location. We won't be in Southhampton until next year, but we'll keep an eye on prices.
❤️❤️❤️
It looks quite acceptable for an odd night or two. I’d rather have a small, clean room than a large, grubby one any day.
Agreed 👍
What do we think? 🤔 What
Ooh I stayed there back in the 80’s when joining a P+O cruise- hubster worked as an engineer on various P+O/Princess cruiseships back in the day!
Oh I wonder if it has changed much!
@@TravelBlogJamie Probably not much 🤣
I can’t remember the detail but I know it was a comfortable room and as a young woman ( back then 🤣) travelling alone, I didn’t feel uncomfortable or scared at any point. I wouldn’t have paid a lot as we couldn’t have afforded for me to do so back
then ( the cruises were ‘free’ as I didn’t have a passenger cabin, staying with hub in his officers accommodation)-but travel to/ from Southampton from the NW of England where we lived at that time, and pre cruise accommodation we had to pay for, understandably.
I stayed at this hotel November 2019 and it has changed since then. We stayed room only, it was pretty cheap and adequate I can't remember exactly how much we paid. There did used to be a lift albeit a bit rickety. I would have to book direct and be certain I had a room without too many stairs, I found the location good.
Thanks for the feedback
Perfect location, interesting place, clean comfortable, yummy breakfast, easy on the wallet, what’s not to like x
The breakfast was a real surprise!!
Thank you. Just what I was looking for. 😊
Welcome 🙏
Looks very good value, breakfast a good price and very central, good find Jamie
Nom nom 🤤
Decent unpretentious, cheap and cheerful accomodation within an old coaching inn. The breakfast fry up looked scrumptious 👍🏻
The fry up was a great surprise!
Only problem for us, hubs walls with a stick.
I don’t think that I could manage the luggage upstairs.👍
It turns out they have a service elevator that guests can use
The white star tavern is also great and very close to ocean terminal.
Yes I’ve stayed / blogged that one before
I stayed here about 10 years ago. It was a bit quirky if I remember xx
True story
Found when travelling solo and was made to feel really welcome. Great to park and shops and restaurants all in walking distance n plentyfull. Have stayed there several times and feel like part of the family now and as you say a stonesthrow from ports . Nothing fancy but clean, reasonable and friendly but don't tell everyone or they will l want to to there 😂
That’s lovely 🥰
Was that an ancient sink that had separate hot and cold faucets ? Haven’t seen one in 40 years.
Plenty of those over here lol 😂
Did you let them know about the door, in an emergency rhat could cause problems getting out room.
I did
Looks good for the money and breakfast looked delish 😋
A goooooood breakfast!
is there a lift? my father has limited mobility.
There’s a maintenance lift which guests can use
thumbs up for the sockets
👍👍👍
that bloody carpet in dining area why does it always get filmed before a clean , weve had builders staying from the site next to us, it does get done regularly , glad you enjoyed the sockets lol , shower head an door have been dealt with
Oh I think I was much more positive than just talking sockets!
The bar looks nice!
It’s a v nice bar and cheap drinks ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Welcome to smelly old Southampton 😂...my home town Jamie 😉
Awesome - I’m guessing you know I’m here a looooot 😉
@@TravelBlogJamie I certainly do 😉😂🤣
Decent room for a decent price same for breakfast
Breakfast was surprisingly good!!

❤️❤️❤️
Maybe we’ll bring our two cans of WD40 from the goody bags to Southampton to leave at the Star.
lol 😂
We have stayed in that hotel was ok for 1 night
👍👍👍
Mate, change your intro music to something a bit more modern! 😉
Mate, no 😉
fun fact: this hotel is a less than a 100-meter walk to an OK strip club (not that i would know)
Ok 👍
£270 for the night I want
You want to pay £270 for a night?
@@TravelBlogJamie No I don’t . Going to stay at Premier Inn
