Great list my friend, most of the albums here brought back good memories from the 90s. IMO, Scorpions' Face the Heat which is my favorite album they released that was both very heavy and melodic was WAAAAAAY underrated!
Warrant Dog Eat Dog great album, given little promotion. The Bitter Pill, April 2031 & Let it Rain all strong songs. Jami Lane did not get credit for his songwriting skills. There are a number of other songs from that era that should see the light of day if there were any justice, check out the Warrant dvd for a couple he was working on.... Agree with you about the Winger album. The frustratingly hard to get Karma cd is a great one as well. (Witness ---- track #10 has one of the most explosive guitar solos I have ever heard).
I don't understand why Winger got so much hate. Why did the media and Metallica dislike them so much? Cinderella's Still Climbing is an album that I think should be on this list too.
They were the “pretty boys” with the “pop metal” that wasn’t considered “tough” and “dangerous” so they were the antithesis of bands like Metallica , AC/DC, and Guns N’ Roses. And there are a lot of sheep who follow whatever media tells them to. So seeing Metallica throw darts at a Kip Winger poster must mean they’re not good, right? 🤦♂️
Agree. SC is a fantastic album. I managed to find a CD copy of it a few years back after it was discontinued for years. I like it better than Heartbreak Station
Oh I do indeed remember hearing one Bon Jovi song that was funk. I didn’t catch the title or which album it was on but it caught my ear because it was during a period when a lot of rock bands decided to try at least one funk song. I’ve always found Bon Jovi’s music a bit too workmanlike for my taste.
Great list of underrated albums. The only ones I don’t have are Queen and U2. Queen has been on the list to buy for awhile but not U2 since I’ve never been a big fan of their stuff.
@@BrendonSnyder I’m definitely going to add it to the collection. I might grab U2 also. I saw a used copy at the local store I go to just the other day for a few bucks
Have you ever done a video about the way you listen to most of the music you have? Your preferred system? Mine happens to be the stereo system in my car. Usually I can't wait to get a new or old CD into the car and drive in no particular direction.
Love Pull album by Winger, Dog eat Dog favorite. Native Tongue is probably the Poison album that I play the most, seen them live with Richie on that tour he even made the old songs come to life.
@Brent Christensen I did get to see them later on in like 99 or early 2000's. I grew up in th 80s & was really burnt out on th glam stuff, but a guy I worked with was obsessed with it. So, we roadtripped to KC to see them & it was a good time. They sounded great!🍻
Risk certainly has its moments. It’s not one I pull out often but I do go back to it as it was an intriguing release at the time trying something different, taking a “risk”.
One of my favorite Queen albums was actually their debut album. Other than “Keep yourself alive,” not many people heard this album. That being said there are really great songs on that album
one thing you mention here is when bands experiment with new sounds and that's kind of a Catch 22 situation.. Sometimes a band's fans appreciate their taking a chance to try out new sounds and just as often fans will be unhappy when bands change. Look at the kind of soft pop the Bee Gees played early in their career and look what happened when they tried disco. And maybe you didn't notice how many rock bands including Bon Jovi, Nickelback, Def Leppard, Deep Purple, Nine Inch Nails and several others experimented with funk. I wonder if their fans liked it....
When did Bon Jovi experiment with Funk? While I hear dance beats and industrial beats in NIN, I’ve not heard anything related to Funk. Deep Purple yes with the Glenn Hughes years. And Def Leppard only on their 2015 self titled album and the one song Man Enough. Otherwise, I haven’t heard a Funk influence in their music. At least not what I call Funk anyway.
I don't think Poison would have continued with Kotzen even if Native Tongue would've sold 10 million. Kotzen was doing Rikki Rockett's fiancée while in the band and when the rest of the band found out, they fired him.
New Tattoo is really the lost MC album. The title track is great. Risk by Megadeth is a solid effort by Mustaine. Sounds better now than it did back then
OK. Queen. The band that I love more than my dogs... and have researched more than any band in history. The album is a collection of tracks that have very little to do with Freddie's final year. There are 3 new songs: Winter's Tale, Mother Love, and You Don't Fool Me.. if you can count that. It's A Beautiful Day - 1980 (The Game outtake) Let Me Live - 1983 (unreleased track with Rod Stewart) Heaven For Everyone - 1987 (released pretty much intact on Roger's solo album with The Cross) I Was Born To Love You - 1985 ( released on Freddie's solo album) My Life Has Been Saved - 1989 (a B-side from The Miracle album... and the original B-side is better than the MIH version) Being MAYBE the biggest Queen fan ever, Made In Heaven is a massive letdown for die-hard fans. Mother Love and Winters Tale are the only post-Innuendo tracks... it should have been an EP, not a full album! Hence its relative failure with Queen die-hards! Oh, I didn't mention You Don't Fool Me? It's a studio construct of stuff the band was throwing around. It's a ton of repetition and demo quality vocals... because that's literally all they had to work with. If they wanted to impress Queen fans, they would have used actual post Innuendo tracks like Robbery, Self Made Man, etc. Real songs recorded in 1991 in Fred's final days. Hey, I told I was a Queen fan ;)
I agree with you. I really like Risk. It's different and takes a little while to get into, but I can understand the hate from hardcore fans. I immediately liked New Tattoo (return to their roots) and Dog Eat Dog (heavy!). Two great albums from some of my favorite bands. Native Tongue falls flat to me, but I still spin it every once in awhile. Saw Poison tour for that album. Opener Damn Yankees though owned the stage. Not thrilled with Pure Instinct (ZZZzzz...) or Subhuman Race (influenced by touring with Pantera?). Pull is awesome!
ZZ Top Recycler was a hit album, but it has fallen off the radar over the years. I think it is waaaay better than Afterburner, the only tour I was able to attend.
warrant's dog eat dog suffers from bad song sequencing, with andy warhol was right and april 2031 needing to be spread out and saved for later. but inside out, bonfire, machine gun, hole in my wall, and hollywood being excellent songs of theirs. ultraphobic, warrant's 4th racket, is an excellent album too.
What? Literally those 3 bands have all done massive stadium tours that were hugely successful. People love the 80’s and those are 3 of the most successful bands from it and they’re all still going strong.
Subhuman Race...... is a damn good record. But, original SR fans probably didn't like the change(as so many hair, glam and thrash fans wanted no part of grunge. I'm a music whore, I love it all). And grunge era fans couldn't give these bands the time of day. Probably same exact story with Warrant.
That’s the one song on the album along with Enter The Arena that I can’t stand. Mostly because I know Dave Mustaine wrote it to try and have a sports anthem that would get used at games and make him lots of money. He said as much at the time.
You keep mentioning that grunge was being pushed in the mid-90s. This was not true. Most of the alt-rock bands being pushed were groups like Weezer, No Doubt, Oasis and Smashing Pumpkins. The self-titled Alice in Chains album got some publicity, and Soundgarden got some publicity as well, but grunge was all but dead by this point.
That’s cool to hear that Beavis and Butthead weren’t all bad business for Winger. Maybe the cartoons will work in reverse now with people being curious and checking the band out and deciding they like Winger. That would be great!
@@BrendonSnyder curious to how you listen to all your music. With headphones 🎧 or speakers in your house? I saw a video with your stereo and turntable.

Oh, I think Risk is the single worst album of the entire Big4. It was an admitted move to pop metal, and it's a step too far. Cryptic Writings is the farthest in the pop direction I can take from MegaDave.
Risk is worse than St. Anger? I think St. Anger is the biggest album fail by any major band. But that’s just my opinion. And I don’t even hate St. Anger. There is still lots to love about it. But it does not sound like Metallica or it sounds like a poorly recorded cover band trying to write 2nd rate version of their songs.
9:37 Wow actually an album I own. It was a great album no complaints here. Does your clothes change decade to decade? I would think so. I’m just talking even before I hear Brendon talk a out. If we had the same sound as Joshua Tree people would be complaining. “They never change their sound”.
It’s true. There are people who love that AC/DC has never changed its sound and others who aren’t interested because it’s always the same. They can’t win, because there will always be someone who isn’t happy.
New Tattoo has some decent tunes. Doesn't have the big singles, but a bunch of solid tunes. Much more consistent than Feelgood or Girls. Forget swine. The self titled is the best piece of art by that band, but it's not really Motley.
