I love school visits! They are so much fun! I've found that, for me, short emails work best for getting quick responses. I also offer discounts if books are sold and don't charge on travel expenses if they live close by. Not every kid is able to get a book so I have bookmarks and stickers to give to all the kids I visit. Don't know if that's in your budget, but a lot of times, you can buy 1,000 more stickers/bookmarks and it's only like $5 more dollars. I'm excited for you! Your books are so fun and I know the kids will love meeting you!

If it was me, I'd start with your main character waking up from after the crash and seeing the carnage, and everyone freaking out. You could show your characters interacting before maybe in flash backs, but I think it's much more effective to show who your characters are in motion, based on their choices in a stressful situation, rather than just them talking before the crash. Or you could do a cold open of when your characters find the house, and then jump back to the crash. If all else fails, write all of it linearly and just choose later.

I so needed to hear that even second drafts aren’t perfect, prose-wise. I added a scene the other day and was like “this is just plot, nothing else. I should just delete it all.” Ty for sharing!
Of course! Yeah, I'm not happy with my prose until like draft 3-4!

I really like your daily life vlogs to see how you fit in writing, chores, self care, and etc. I’m stuck with balancing everything since I will hyperfixate on one thing and everything else will become a procrastination project.
These type of vlogs will motivate me to get busy and work on my own to-do list.
*By the way, I’m a personal trainer and dietitian, and you mentioned eating more carbs as being the best reason to enter a bulking phase; but while carbs and fat go towards energy, make sure you eat enough protein since that macro is the main nutrient to build the body. I want you to hit those health goals with ease.

And thank you for the advice and looking out for me! I think I'm doing really good getting my protein in! My body is 2% more muscle (according to my body analyzer scale) and 4% less fat than I was 6 months ago! I'll take that.

The girls are in the carriage, goofing off and talking about where theyre going. This gives some insight into their personalities and friendship dynamics. And then the carriage accident happens. Fade to black. Next chapter is them waking up, having survived, but with some injuries. And they’re totally lost!

Thank you for sharing your day in the life!! This inspires me and makes me hopeful for my plan. Next month I am taking a gap month from work to focus on my author business, and the way you plan out your day and were honest about things, is kind of how I was planning to do my day. As someone who works in the public library I want to say you should also consider sending out those same emails to your local library. Most of them will have a contact on their website for programming ideas, don't be afraid to reach out. Libraries love local authors!
I definitely will! Some of my favorite events have been with libraries!

Ooh that could be good. Especially if they have a dark secret that makes them wonder if it really could have been their fault, like they're cursed or something, and they have to hide it from everyone.

Every time I write something new I have to go back to basics. If I don't? I struggle extra hard. 😅
This is so real. I started writing myself a personal guide to remind myself what worked last time and how my process goes so I don't have to guess or reread a bunch of craft books.

I finally added an important scene in my fourth draft that was very important now I just have to build it up but I am gonna keep writing and finish this draft and I think this may be it I am hoping that what hindred me from finishing the third draft

Do you do digital school presentations for Canadians? I remember you saying canada sold lots of your books at scholastic fairs. Not sure what the time difference would be though

I love this vlog! You got so much done! And your handwriting is incredible! I hope you hear back about the school visits. The thing about being self-employed is you gotta hustle and reach out yourself and then wait, but you are doing all the right things. I literally barge into author friend’s emails/DMs (very nicely) and I’m like, “Hey, if you want, connect me with your editor and I’ll do an authenticity read for your book.” 😂🥰
I’m excited to find out more about Casey in BITTER BONES. I love that he’s a writer! I’m obsessed with CRIMSON GIRLS and that whole concept! I just finished revising two chapters of my new YA horror and submitted it to a contest. Now I have to draft the rest of the novel, but I already see some more line edits I want to make in a future draft, so I know what you mean about trying to get it right.
Thunderstorms are a hyperacusis nightmare for me. Too much sensory stuff. I would hate that. OOF. I hope some of your symptoms have eased. Thank you for sharing. 💜🩵🤗
