"I eat and I dress and I wash, And I still can say 'thank you'. Puking, shaking, sinking I still stand for old ladies, Can't shout, can't scream. Hurt myself to get pain out." Richey was such a brilliant wordsmith...poor Richey.
It's a testament to how good of a musician that James Dean Bradfield really is, by being a able to play both guitar parts and sing (albeit pitchy in a few parts) this song pretty damn well!
A completely dysfunctional band in more ways than one (and thank God). Main tunesmith & guitarist, singing words not written by him. A drummer of seriously great musical skill helping him whilst two 'mouthy' gits on the wings. How and why they are not more lauded in rock 'n' roll history is beyond me but I think because they are true to their roots and very much down to earth stops them being put in the pantheon's of R&R's hall of fame.
JDB is amazing-as are Nicky and Sean. But anyone doubting Richey’s contribution to the live sound of the early Manics should compare this with the Glastonbury ‘94 performance where he’s onstage.
I have a reoccurring dream about James and he's stood infont of me in this dream and all I ever say is" Take your clothes off." And he laughs ... I wake up and that's it. Sad ain't I?❤❤
Must've been a very odd show/period for the band. Can't imagine how difficult pulling off these shows was while everything was seemingly crumbling at the time...
Part of the "charm" of THB is unlike 95% of their catalogue, there are songs which feature tempo changes or bars with an odd number of beats (the verses on Yes being a prime example).
As that 'other chap' carved in his arm, are you......... 'for real?'. Appreciate that is your opinion, but in my humble opinion everything that followed the Richey.....and the Holy Bible was merely watered down dross. Don't get me wrong, for most substandard bands the songs that followed would have been welcome but the whole James singing properly and the commercial pop that followed was not for me. First three albums and them live up until that point were up there with the best.
how does James play the riff so tight with the complex , wordy syncopated vocal line ?
The blokes a genius .
crazy innit!
One of the most underrated musicians of all time. World class vocalist, world class guitarist, and always holds it together for the band.
Practice, practice, practice, practice

He's a Legendary Musician. Such an underrated Guitarist 🎸
The holy bible is a masterpiece
so is the LP !
To quote the title of this song ..
“Yes”
"I eat and I dress and I wash,

This song is perfection. JDB, Sean, Nicky and Richey, each one is an special and talented human being. They stand out like a nail.
"Everyone i've loved or hated always seems to leave".

Blimey. Haven't seen this since I was in the crowd. Great gig under very trying circumstances. We didn't know how bad Richey was at the time.

Literlaly, he brought so much energy and united connection without commanding all the attention x
I wish i had a time machine
Was in the crowd here, first of many times I saw em,blew me away, the holy bible is a masterpiece 🎸❤️
Don't hurt, just obey, lie down, do as they say
May as well be heaven this hell, smells the same
These sunless afternoons I can't find myself
This must have been when Richey was in the Priory...
Stanley Reading it was
Richey was still in the band at this point, he was in rehab
love holy bible its so legendary rock album. Cult classic
So astoundingly good. James never ceases to amaze me
wish they played this song in the states
My first time seeing them last year, this was the first sounds I heard from them. Unforgettable
The Manics are absolutely amazing but James is a beast.
yes yes yes, great performance !
what a fucking song amazing
JDB with long hair is the best
I have a reoccurring dream about James and he's stood infont of me in this dream and all I ever say is" Take your clothes off."

this is better than the record
This song is catchy as fuck.
Oh Yes!!
I was here .it's so far
0:58 - Nicky makes a mistake...but it actually kinda fits the song pretty well.
Music theory would call it an awkward 'passing note'.
@@Kperson123 it'd be accented passing note or appoggiatura, a passing note would need a harmony note before it (the B he should've been playing)
Yes you're right

How come on the LP, he sounds so similar to Geddy Lee? Live he sounds totally different
*to my guitar to figure out this sweet riff*

@@drumtracksdirect it sounds like 7/4 to 4/4 or 4/4 3/4 to 4/4 depending on how you want to look at it. Amazing.
i did a doubletake 2:56 when the background started moving
Full Force.
Richey was trying to cure his demons, but sadly his demons were stronger than him.
James kinda looks like Gary Oldman in Leon
EVERYYYYOOOONNNEEEE!!!!!
Guitar too quiet in the mix.
paying for Richey's clinical bills ere
😂
weird thing to laugh about man! he killed himself! that funny?
@@andyz9793 I don’t think the fact he was suicidal and depressed is funny in the slightest, I’m sad he’s gone.

They were much better after that other chap left.
Were they fuck.
I think they became a bit of a different band after Richey disappeared. More acoustic, less angry. Still good, just a different band.
gnome1882 Wow. I bet mummy is rather proud of her little keyboard warrior.
