    I love your reaction. Like so many others who are familiar with Home free and how talented each one truly is yet are taken totally by surprise when they hear Austin and Rob singing this. Two country singers ... the same two who brought you Man of Constant Sorrows ... try to sing opera. Many who know their fun, goofy side were expecting some "gotcha" from them. The "gotcha" was they sang Nessun Dorma for real. I liked the opening with them in their t-shirts, jeans and cowboy hat / ball cap as they walk into the church, then Austin hangs his hat on the seat as he walks by, symbolizing that they were setting aside their country persona for a moment and taking on a serious classical / opera persona for this song. Home Fries have always said Home free are not just country but cover all genres of music and boy did they ever prove that with their beautiful cover of Nessun Dorma.

    • @bobwallace9753
      @bobwallace9753 Год назад

      Home Free is sort of an accidental country group. Rob is classically trained. IIRC, Austin was into musical theater. They were sort of pushed into country during their formative years while competing in one of the TV 'talent shows'.

    Samantha, I was one of those telling you to check this out. Us Home Fries aren't gonna steer you wrong, at least I'm not. Someone else you may want to check out is Boyce Avenue...the Miranda brothers (Cuban guys) that live in Fort Meyers area of Florida, just south of Tampa-St. Petersburg FL....they typically do covers too but gorgeous ones. Now as for Home Free, just yesterday they dropped their 1st song from their new album, and the song was written by TIM FOUST, and is called "WHAT'S LEFT OF MY HEART" it's country/pop and very pretty and very romantic...have a tissue on hand !!! But not sad at all but an uplifting but very heartwarming lyrics. Hope you see this !!!!

I was pretty impressed with Rob & Austin's version of Nessun Dorma. I have heard this famous song done by Pavarotti. I think I was more surprised by Rob's range & powerful delivery than even Austin's. Pretty good for a couple of country boys! Nice to see them dressed up in suits & looking classy.

    Great reaction, Samantha. Definitely a huge 'wow' factor. Certainly a pleasant surprise. Been several days and the video has already netted 100K views! A good number of reactors thought this would be one of the guys' comedic videos given the word 'try' in the title. (Given their sense of humor, would not have been opposed to them singing this while still in tees and hats as that would be consistent with their sense of humor.) The response has been overwhelmingly positive, so hopefully this encourages them to tackle more 'surprises'...perhaps enlisting the other Home Free guys. (One reactor, suggesting more opera from HF, wants to see all of the guys join in with Adam perhaps doing violin. :) ) I've never been much of an opera fan but was very familiar with this aria. This potentially brings a new audience to HF and fans will never see them in quite the same light, now, discovering what more they're capable of.

  • @patriciamcl54
    @patriciamcl54 2 года назад +5

    I had the same reaction as you, Samantha. I used to go to the opera a lot in the past when I lived in London, and I can say that Rob and Austin could take their place on any opera or concert stage. (Btw I'm getting pretty tired of people saying "I don't like opera much but ..." when you can bet your bottom dollar they have never seen an opera at all. Anyway.) Loved your reaction as ever.
    There seems to be general surprise that they are country singers doing this, but we need to remember that Home Free only became a country band more or less by accident, and performs various genres of music. Rob and Austin are trained singers, Rob a heroic tenor, Austin a lyric tenor, and what is surprising is that they do this so beautifully that it has this effect on so many. They both know how to tell a story in song and how to evoke emotions. Rob in "Dreamer" and Austin in "Neon Moon" have shown that. They're using the same techniques but in the service of a different genre, they have been singing together for 10 years and know that their voices blend so well, and we have as a result a spellbinding piece of music. Our spirits are starved of beauty, so when faced with it we are almost overwhelmed.
    Nessun Dorma is always a pretty emotional ride when it's well sung, but this is such an intelligent version with no vocal showing off that the beauty that Puccini hoped we would feel hits us fair and square. And both of these guys are good men, building happy homes and with a deep friendship that goes back to when they first met. Austin has said that what struck him most about the band was Rob's voice, and it was Rob who told him that there might well be a vacancy. Austin has wanted to sing this as a solo for some time, but i think he also wanted to show his friend's stunning voice to a wider audience.

    Many reviews have said "better than expected BUT ...". I know relatively little about opera but I am aware of the need for efficient breathing, a relaxed larynx and an open mouth. I don't expect that Vienna investors see either tenor as the best singer in that market. For people who abandoned their comfort zone to explore new vistas I think they did damned remarkably well!

    For some reason I only found this song yesterday and since then I have listened to it probably three dozen times and just now when I watched it...again...I had tears in my eyes again. Rob has a trained opera voice, and he is superb, Austin was not trained in opera, but he has the voice of an angel. and together they are pure magic. I have only one complaint, and it is not something over which Rob or Austin have any control and that is that this piece was way too short. Breathtakingly beautiful.

    Thank you. It is easier if you are familiar with their professional music background and what they are well known for singing.
    Sometimes people get caught up in their favorite performers of a given song and don't respond well to the cover artists later.
    Austin Brown and Rob Lundquist are with an acapella band since 2013.
    Homefree did not specialize in country until the SingOff talked them into doing it for their competition. Tim and others have talked about it in interviews.
    What a singer's musical training is can be very different from what they end up doing professionally. Case in point, Avi Kaplan is a formally opera trained basso profundo who sang pop acapella in Pentatonix and now sings his own compositions in folk rock. Maybe we should get Avi to do a bass aria out of Cosi fan Tutte (The Magic Flute) by Mozart next?
    Rob is an opera trained tenor. Rob doesn't do singing on his own he reviews movies.
    Austin is also formally classically trained but sings in more of a musical theater and pop classics direction. He developed his channel as did Tim Foust as their income sources during the pandemic quarantine with no touring for live shows.

    I commented 3 days ago but felt compelled to comment again.Many people think Jussi Bjorling a Swedish tenor who performed from the late 30's until his death in 1960 was an equal to Caruso.People consider his version of O Holy Night sung in Swedish the gold standard.Maybe Rob would consider doing it in Italian if he was not comfortable doing it in Swedish.I realize it would not be an overnight occurrence or would it ever be sung in a live performance.I think now that the cat is out of the bag Rob needs to throw us the occasional bone.

    For another great version of this song please react to Marc Martel singing this beautiful song. It's on his RUclips channel. It's his "Mercurotti" version where he sings it as both Luciano Pavarotti and as Freddy Mercury. If you haven't reacted to Marc's music yet, you must. His single take Bohemian Rhapsody on his piano has over 50 million views.

    I love Home Free, so I didn't know what to expect from Rob and Austin. To say I was shocked and pleased is a massive understatement!! Thanks for your reaction!

    Austin hounded Rob into teaching him how to sing Opera. Rob broke down and we have the results. Bright Blessings and be well.

    I cry almost every time I watch it.....and I have watched it at least 20 times! I wish they would do an album together. Nice reaction.

    It is a strange world where two men who studied opera in college wind up in a country acapella group.

    It never hurts to do a little research. I Googled the song and got the translation in English and then found where it came from and the story behind Turandot. It made the song so much more meaningful. Thankyou for your fabulous reaction.❤️
    I had the same type of reaction when I first heard Freddy Mercury and Monserrat Caballe singing. I'm sure you've probably reacted to Barcelona, but if not it's my number one suggestion.
