I can't tell if it's just being an adult now instead of a little kid, or if its changes in attendance, or landscaping, or the layout of the park, or rides that have been removed over years... but the park feels so empty now. Few people. Long stretches of nothing between the rides. Closed shops and restaurants. New construction that doesnt match any of the architectural theming. Replacing mini-donits with Cinnabon. Etc. It used to feel to me like every ride was nestled in its own spot, but the expanded area where the Scrambler moved to feels like the kind of traveling fair that sets up in shopping mall parking lots for a weekend.
Yeah it def feels more dull now. It could just be we are older now and it doesn’t feel new anymore to us. I remember going as a kid it felt as if I was at the theme park in spy kids lol. They need a change of scenery it is kinda depressing with the lack of nature imo. Maybe if they can add in another coaster people will start going again. But yet again each year that goes by it seems more people don’t have the need to leave their houses anymore because of the lack of needing to go out to do anything. Everything is online now I mean look at malls it’s pretty much the same as theme parks they are becoming more and more empty now as time goes on.
You’re right, it looks so barren. I know the wide angle distortion of the GoPro also adds to the perceived emptiness, but this is not the Valleyfair I remember as a kid. Granted, I also haven’t been back since I worked there for the 2000 season (the year Power Tower opened!), so I literally have not seen the park for the entire second half of its existence!
