I’ve been a ferret rescue for 25 years and had the extraordinary gift of raising 2 long tailed weasels for release. It was an amazing & successful experience. I found you on YT many years ago & so thoroughly enjoy watching you work with all your amazing mink. Mustelids are my ❤ animals.

I audibly said "what a good boy" when he left the fish on the step and went to see you. You're really gonna be one for the history books Joseph, in 2000 years when Mink are serving a regular pest control role for humanity we will have the fine conductors of the Joseph Carter Academy Of Animal Husbandry to thank for our bountiful harvests.

Wyatt is really coming along! LOL, sometimes he came up for air right when one of the sheep was bleating & it seemed like the mink was saying "Ba-a-a-a!" And I think both Rascal and Wyatt would like a little more seafood in their diet & a little less muskrat! Olive's mink is learning fast!

#josephcartertheminkman 🙌🏼 that's very impressive on how fast Wyatt is learning from his natural instincts to defensive driven state of mind, not to only grab the prey item but to get it, than come back afterwards 😅👏🏼
Rascal however, he might need a little more training yet, he's got the potential to be even better than Wyatt. One day, maybe after this winter, towards next spring they both will be season ready to do massive retrievals of fish and rats(only time will tell afterwards)
May God continue to bless 🙏🏽 you and your family and friends brother 🫢
Thank you and family, for you do and continue to support the community

My positive experience has also been with training ferrets as I found them intelligent and easy to train. They can learn multiple tasks and enjoy being social and heavily playful animals.
Like other farmers, I had problems with a mink(s) when we started with poultry and the sly little buggers had themselves a good meal off me. I don't hate on them for that. It was a mink being a mink and doing what it needed to do to survive.

You should let the little ones eat the first catch, first big catch, they ever get. I can imagine a little frustration in them feeling how much work that was and then to have to rationalize it being taken away for the first time. Rather then, it happening the second time, they would automatically realize "oh so I don't get to actually eat them, well ok I know what they taste like.

Hi Joseph, do you think if it is possible to train the minks to respond to a different whistle for caching, instead of the one for calling them to you for food?
It seems to me they can understand different calls and signals.

I just found your video with your dogs catching the 500+ rats and I have several questions:
1: what got you into this?
2: why are you into this?
3: do the dogs like doing this job?
4: Have the dogs ever gotten hurt on the job either by objects caused by an infestation or by the vermin themselves?
5: is it safe to even do it with dogs?
6: is it legal and if so how much does it pay? (not that I’m interested)
7: have any of the dogs eaten the animals they hunt on the job?
8: is it possible the dogs can catch a disease from the vermin?
9: how many dogs do you have employed there?
10: Have any dogs died on the job?

      1 and 2- watch this video ruclips.net/video/1HOM24OX6Oo/видео.htmlsi=0xBNGZ1DUqyjdkDA
3- It's pretty difficult to find a dog that doesn't love its job. Dogs love to work. In fact most of the behavioral problems people have with their pet dogs is directly caused by NOT working their dogs. The overwhelming majority of pet dogs are completely miserable because they aren't allowed to work. Most excessive barking, chewing, hyperactivity, digging, and obsessive behaviors are caused because people don't work their dogs. As far as what I do specifically, my dogs LIVE to hunt. That is their all time favorite activity, more than anything else in the world. If someone stole one of my dogs, the dog would drive them nuts constantly trying to hunt.
4 and 5- pretty much impossible to do anything active without getting "hurt". That's like asking a kid if he ever fell off his bike while playing outside. Or a basketball player if he ever ever tripped while playing basket ball. However, with that being said, true injuries are incredibly rare among my dogs. I vaccinate my dogs, and none of them have ever gotten sick.
6- why in the world would it be illegal? This is literally letting your dog be a dog. Pretty much every dog with a heart beat dreams of being able to do why my dogs do.
7- my dogs are not supposed to eat while working because working on a full stomach can make them sick.
8- not likely if they are properly vaccinated
9- I own 4 dogs, but I have friends who bring their own dogs sometimes.
      10- nope
