- In this step-by-step tutorial, I show you how to create an eco-friendly shopping bag that folds into a small pouch that will fit easily into most handbags. This is a quick and fun project that is great for gift giving or for selling at craft shows. I hope that enjoy the video and thanks for watching.
I really like this bag. As a former cashier I would like to make one suggestion. If you would put a little loop at the top of the bag, it would sit nicely on the bag platform at the store and could be hooked onto the center bar that holds the plastic bags. This keeps the bag open for loading and saves time at checkout. I'm definitely going to make one of these bags. Great tutorial!
That is a great tip! Thank you for sharing!!
That is such a great idea! I’m making one right now and at the part where I attach handles. I’m going to add a loop.
Great hack idea.
I have lots of creative tote/shopping bag tutorials and I love your design best. Thank you for sharing with us.
You are so generous in your sharing, thank you
I realize this tutorial was posted 3 years ago, but I just wanted to thank you for posting it. I just made one and it turned out perfect! The technique to make gussets in the bottom of the bag was brilliant. 😃 Thinking of making these for Christmas gifts this year. Again, thank you so much❣
Great instruction and well detailed for all learners
This lady has a lovely way of teaching. Very good and enjoyable. Thank you
Thank you so much for the super video. Your instructions are the best I have watched.
Thank you for your very kind comment and for watching!
@@RosiesArtStudiowhat kind of fabric are you using for the bag part?
I have just made this bag, due to your brilliant instructions It has turned out perfectly, there is nobody who is so clear in their teaching & therefore easy to understand. Thank you Rosie for your time in making this video.
Your tutorials are excellent! Especially for those of us who need explicit instructions. Thank you!
Love love your detailed tutorials… I appreciate that you also tell us the stitch length. All of it really helps us understand each steps and have confidence in knowing we can complete this project successfully. Thank you for sharing your projects and expertise with us. ❤
Just completed this project. Your clear instruction rather than my questionable skill made it a complete success. Many thanks.
Such clear instructions ! Thank you so much ! 🌸
Brilliant video, very detailed
Thanks and thanks for watching!
I just made this bag. I LOVE it!!! It's just what I was looking for. I mistakenly cut the fabric at 18x36 so I added an accent strip on top to extend the length to the correct 41/42 inch length to get the height. Turns out it didn't really need it, in my opinion. Also, it looks really cool with the accent. I attached it with a variation of the flat felled seam so there would be no raw edges. It looks fantastic. However, it took longer so I'm not planning to do that again. I might increase that bottom fold to 3" next time.
I love your tutorials!! They are truly the best! I will be making this bag tomorrow. I was looking for one that folded kind of flat and this definitely seems like the one. And I’m going to include the loop at the top as suggested in the comments as well. Great idea! Thank you Rosie!!
The tip about using the point turner when you're pressing the curves...that's a level up. Thanks for the tutorial. Very well made!
Thank you for your kind comments!
Thank you for this video - I have been searching for a long time on how to do the fold flat bottom with a french seamed unlined bag. Bonus is that I was looking for this to make a supermarket shopping bag - which this video is also for, winner winner!!
Great bag love love .this cute bag .thanks for sharing. 💐👍👜
Thank you and you are welcome!
I love this bag. Not sure how that bottom works, but guess I'll find out. I need bags. All the stores are getting rid of plastic, and the bags in the store are expensive, and don't last. Love the little pouch. Great for gifts.
All the stores in my state are also getting rid of bags. After walking out of stores a few times literally holding my purchase in my hands I said...enough is enough...and decided it was time to make my own bag...lol. Have fun making it!
Great tutorial! You are a very patient, and clear to understand. Thank you! I will be keeping this tutorial and make these!
I am glad you liked the video. Have fun making the shopping bag and thanks for watching!

Good job
Very cool! I'm totally a bag lady and have just started to learn how to make them. I'm going to give this one a try! I cant wait!
Oh! And I love the way you say iron.
I'm from Southeast Texas, by the Louisiana border...so, I dont often hear clear English. I hear stuff like ruff (roof), ay-sss tea (ice tea), wrench (rinse), winder (window), skooo (school), surup (syrup). Lol! I love my kinfolk but I was raised by parents that firmly believed we were a direct representation of them when we left the house and smacked any slang language out of us from the jump. But thank you for the video and I will let you know how it turns out!
Really simple but important tips that make all the difference. Thank you for sharing 😊❤
Your tutorials are perfect. Such great instructions and pictures. Good job!
Great instructions, beautiful fabric. ❤

Thank you and Merry Christmas! Have fun making the bag!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. This was such a clear and concise tutorial. I am relatively new to sewing and had no trouble following your guidance. I feel pretty accomplished on my first French seam. I appreciate you showing the sewing part as well. Many just skip this part, but it really does help. I happened to stumble upon your channel and now plan to be a loyal subscriber. I look forward to doing many more of your projects. Thanks again for all the work you put into your video.
Thank you so much, this is a wonderful project!
You are very welcome!
I love the way she explains everything step by step. Cute bag. My new project! Thank you, Monica
A trick: watch series at Kaldrostream. I've been using it for watching a lot of movies lately.
@Ricardo Kylo definitely, I've been watching on kaldrostream for months myself :)

What a great bag!!! Your instruction was so great!!! Thank you for sharing!! ❤❤
Excellent pattern and tutorial. I made 6 of these as a gift when I hosted a luncheon. Everyone liked them. Not sure about the snaps though. I ordered the suggested snaps. They seem a bit flimsy.
I am loving your bag my sister, beautiful
I am so glad you like it!
I love how the bag looks and you explained how to make it simply and beautifully! I will definitely give it a go for Christmas gifts! Thank you. X

Wonderful!
Thank You Rosie I teach small classes on sewing the GIRLS will love this.
Excellent!
A very clear tutorial and a lovely bag, thank you.
Thank you and you are welcome!
Nice job Rosie..this would make great little Xmas gifts and make a few extra to have on hand. I also think a couple of these to put with a shower gift basket would be really cute..I can see kids taking one to put stuff in on a road trip or outing. To me there doesn’t seem to be an end to the practicality of these!!
Thank you! I agree. They definitely will make great gifts...something anyone can use especially with so many places banning the use of plastic bags.
Ahhhmazing! Your tutorials always floor me. I am surely gonna make a few of these. Thanks!
Thank you! Have fun making them!

You have such a nice on camera presence .
I really love this and having made my first one so easily I’ll be making more to pop into Christmas gifts. Thanks once again for your calm and clear instructions.
Glad to hear you are making the eco-bag. I have another version that I will be posting in a couple if days.
Rosie's Art Studio Ooh, that will be another to make and add to my growing pile of bags to give away.
Fabulous tutorial
thankyou so much
Thank you and you are welcome!
ANOTHER AWESOME VIDEO !! Did you get your kam snap on amazon.. I've been wanting one. I know they sell table ones but I think for the little jobs I make that will do... what do you think ? Thanks Rosie !!
Thank you! Yes, I bought my Kam snaps and setter on RUclips. I think having the hand held setter is good for my purposes as I only use the Kam snaps on small projects as well. If I am making a handbag I use much sturdier hardware.
Thank you, I’ve just started making one. I’m just about to sew on the pocket piece which is interfaced. Should I have the interfaced side next to the bag, should it be on top?
I just love this project Rosie!
Thank you! I am glad you love it!
Love that your tutorials are detailed! Thanks Rosie! ( Is that Tula Pink fabric? So cute!!)
Thank you and you are welcome. Yes...it is Tula Pink fabric. I love her designs.
Awesome tutorial.
I love this bag! do you have a pattern or printed steps anywhere?
Thank you! Everything you need to make it is in the video. There are no written instructions. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful! Thank you! :)
Thank you and you are welcome!
Hi Rosie, how are you? Can’t sleep and happen to watch your video. Will definitely try to make one. What is the measurement of this bag? Very well made and I love the French seam.
Thank you! The bag is probably about 13” Wide X 4” Deep by 20” Tall. I am a guessing since I never actually measured it.
Good job!!
Thanks!
Just awesome
Great teaching mam
Thank you!
@@RosiesArtStudio looking forward for more tote bags mam
Great bag!
Thank you!
Thank you for a great tutorial you are the best ... 🧵✂️
Aww...thanks for the kind comment and thanks for watching!
Great tips
Hey Rosie, I love this tutorial, just wondering if you need to do the interfacing? Thanks
I think the interfacing helps reinforce the Kamsnap. If using Velcro, maybe can skip.
Hi. How do I make this bag with a lining please, great video
Thank you! Very nice market bag. BJ
Thank you and you are welcome!
SO cute I can't wait
Thank you. Have fun with it.
Love it
I am glad you liked the tutorial.. thanks for watching!
Should we wash the fabric first? Or just go right in lol
Prewashing your fabrics will get out any shrinkage. That way, when you wash your finished project, it should not shrink. Some fabrics need to be prewashed a few times to get out all the shrinkage such as denim.
Sorry if I sound a bit dim, but you say the material is half yard, but how wide please?
I used 100% cotton quilting fabric which is typically anywhere from 40” - 44” wide. Thanks for watching.
How do u sear the end? Do u burn it? Or sew the end?
I'm a little confused by the 21" and 42" dimensions of the bag. What size should the fabric be cut to?
How would I go about adding a lining to this?
Wonderful teacher did you make the pattern ?
Thank you! I did draft my own pattern.
Did I miss measurements? Looked for a pattern. Thank you!1
The measurements are in the video. Thanks for watching.
Very nice
Thank you!
What is the measurement for the half yard piece?
