    We've got ten Greenstalks now. They produce really well. There is a bit of a learning curve but once you get it dialed in they are plant producing machines!

    @Gardener Scott - I know what you mean about the weather. We did not get sunny, warm weather until late April this year, was wet and in the 50's until then. Then we jumped up in temp. Had to scramble to get beds ready and planted. The weather prevented me from being able to get my raised beds increased in height - want to add another 6 inches in height to make it easier on my old knees to work the beds - and install two new metal raised beds. Height expansion will wait until the fall now, and the new metal beds will be part of my summer project.
    And I am considering Greenstalk for next year.

    Seems like it was a tough spring through the country 😳 it was cold here in NE for a while not a lot of rain 🌧️ in fact we are going through a bit of drought. I’m glad your plants growing now 🙂

    I have no need or space for a green stalk, but a friend of mine did.
    I sent him one last fall, he just loves it.
    This friend is super intelligent, but kinda skeptical. He is a believer now.
    My friend Al, has one of the most spectacular balcony gardens I have ever seen, I have to have him send you a picture of what you can do in a very limited space.
    Stay Well Gardener Scott!

    • @GardenerScott

      For now I keep the tube open and it drains through the deck, but I try to water enough to keep the soil moist but not so much it drains out the bottom.

    Hello Gardener Scott, hope you are doing well ! What would you recommend for worms and pests in my raised garden with Tomatoes ? I have found a few worms on some leaves that I picked off. Anything I can apply to the sides of the raised bed ? Thank You for all your advice and knowledge ! Chris in GEORGIA

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  Год назад

      Hi, Chris. I usually start by picking off the caterpillars. You can try neem oil and Bacillus Thuringiensis (Bt). I grow herbs, grasses, and a lot of flowers to attract beneficial predatory insects. I prefer not to use chemicals and let the birds and those predators eat the caterpillars and other harmful insects.

    Hi Scott, with a greenstalk, would this require more soil than if I was planting in my smart pots? I am considering getting one of them, but not sure which one, since I have herbs and edible plants (lettuce, spinach, kale, cucumbers, eggplants, strawberries).

    • @DawnBarb
      @DawnBarb Год назад +1

      A full system 7 tier Leaf or 5 tier original, requires approximately 7cu ft of potting mix. Or 3.5 bags of 2 cu ft potting mix. I believe the advantage is you can plant at least 6 plants per layer. Depending in the pot, you may only be able to plant one plant. Smaller plants, radishes, carrots can have up to 3 per pocket. Helpful?

    • @GardenerScott
      @GardenerScott  Год назад +2

      It depends on the size of the smart pot and the size of the GreenStalk. For herbs and salad crops I like the Leaf model which uses less soil.

      Yep, use that fish fertilizer and watch the coon come in😂😂
      We had and Still Have the opposite problem with weather. They say 90s for Mon/Tues but our microclimate has been Already that for many days And Still No Rain! We are about 8” behind on precip and I hate the hose.😊. The so called chances keep going right on by.
      Green stalks would be nice for herbs and terraces, but I have no use past that. Pricey to fill and that soil has to be reworked and that is too much work and cost for me. The cover I would watch for over heating because I thought to use frost cover Not secured tightly last year and it cooked the vegetables. Only reason is I didn’t have enough shade cloth at that time.
      Well I’m off to fight the drought with my buddy ‘The Hose’🤬
