Ashley how many purchase types of GreenStalk is their I have a five tier and only one pan and I see others with more pans and a watering system on top.

@@craftingwithnathalie74 hello! I'm not sure what you mean by "pan" - do you mean the top water reservoir? Assuming you do, we also launched the GreenStalk Leaf last December which allows for 7 tiers plus the top water reservoir. It's the same height as the 5 tier GreenStalk Original, but makes better use of space for leafy greens, root veggies, etc.
Also, some people stack our GreenStalk Original higher than 5 tiers, but that is not recommended by us.
A little pricey but it IS 100% American made and that was the final tipping point to use part of my stimulus $$ here. ❤️
It's made with plastic. That is not environmentally friendly. I love Gardener Scott but not during this viewing.
@@MsSunstoned this is exactly the place you want to use plastic*. It'll last for a very long time exactly because it's plastic, and won't rot or decompose like a wood container, and if it's the right plastic, it'll even hold on to sunlight.
*Given that you use it a very long time, and if it breaks you dispose of it correctly. If you don't do so, then it won't be environmentally friendly at all
@@pozzowon plastic will never be environmentally friendly. Not when they make it, not in the end game. It never goes away & pollutes the planet & everything in comes in contact with. All the water & other resources to 'recycle' plastic. This planet, the oceans can't take much more human activity and their 'brilliant' inventions.
@@pozzowon Agreed!! My late hubby built raised beds and they rotted out the same season he passed on. I waited before I removed them because I was saddened. At least I’d still have the plastic if he’d put them together😢
100% agree on buying all American made and no more cheaply made in overseas goods/disposables. I have 5 of these Greenstalks in my garage waiting for set up this spring. I was very impressed with the quality and design of this item, and can't wait to use them. Consider it an investment for little more upfront for high quality product to decrease my carbon footprint by growing one's own food.
8 months later, I have 6. I started with 1, then we had a land hurricane in Iowa called a Dericho. My Greenstalk had a decent sized branch fall on it, not even a crack. It will get knocked over by high winds, but it is sturdy enough to take some abuse. The plants in it grew very well. There are great instructions for specific plants online, and their customer service is awsome. I also bought one for my friend for Christmas. The code still works, and it works even when they have the greenstalks on sale.

I’ve been using these for a few years now and I love them. I have 1 that’s all peppers, and 2 that are all strawberries. They help save my back and I’ve been able to remove 2 4x8 grow beds

Looks great for a small greenhouse. It would save a lot of cash on lumber for shelves. A couple or three of these along each wall would do well.

I'm sold on the water reservoir. I used earthboxes for years and that water infusion thing system works much better than watering from the surface

As expensive as pots can be, the space saving and water reservoir I find this to be a very attractive alternative!

Great minds think alike! I received my Green Stalk for Xmas after watching a video from Growing Your Greens and I've finally been able to set mine up. I planted cabbage from seed on the bottom. Next 2 tiers is the free assorted lettuce seeds and Little Gem lettuce seeds from MIGardener. 4th tier will be my strawberry roots. I haven't decided on my 5th tier yet but most likely be my favorite herbs. I also used my own soil blend along with my very own homemade worm castings. My seeds have already sprouted in every pocket. To me, that's success! Can't wait for everything to grow bigger. I'm very excited about this system. It's showing a big turnout for me so far unlike my failed attempts at indoor seed starter trays.

I've got one of this stackable pots with 3 layers about 3 years ago and i have to say that it's not really good if you can't leave it in a centre position away from walls, unless you at the pole, sunshine will reach only about 50% of your plants so you should turn the entire pot 90° every day, that's really annoying. Furthermore, moisture of the soil decreases going at lower levels as my bottom one is always dry while the top one got moss. The plants will all strive for sunlight and stretch. That's my review, hope u get luckier!!

I have to ask... Is the reason so many RUclips channels have this greenstalk product because greenstalk gave them a free one? Just asking the question no judgement. I do see the interest in the product but I also really doubt that it doesn’t get bone dry in a day.(especially where I live,The air is usually hovering around 30% humidity) a lot of RUclips content makers just push products without really ever giving an unbiased review which is a bummer. I look forward to seeing your updates on this product mr Scott!
Derek, I suspect their marketing is a factor. So far it isn't drying out in my low humidity, but I treat it just like any other container and water every day. I'll be documenting the plant growth.

My 2 favorite things about GreenStalk Planters are 1) It's plastic and will last a LONG time, and 2) It's made in America
Thank you Gardener Scott. Is there a follow up video or can you comment on how the tower worked out? Did the plant do well? How was the water distribution? Also, if one want to garden organically should one be using plastic for growing food?
I have showed some of the results in other videos. The water distributed well and most of the plants did well. I think herbs and salad crops did best. I don't have a problem using plastic in organic gardening.
Hi Scott. Question on the Green Stalk. Do you know if strawberries will over-winter without some type of prorection? I'm also in zone 5b Chicago and I'm getting ready to plant my cold weather starts into the Green Stalk. Can't wait to see how the plants progress! Love your informative videos. Thank-you.
They should overwinter fine without extra protection. I've had strawberries survive my 5b winter in basic pots.

Scott, thank you for your informative and inspiring videos, including this one. I wonder if you could comment on "replacing" the soil in containers/pots. How do you know that time has come? What happens to the tired/depleted soil? Are there any rules of thumb?
I usually don't use container soil more than two seasons. Then I add it to my raised beds in fall and turn it into the soil. Nutrients will be depleted based on how many plants you grew in it and how much fertilizer you used, but it still has a lot of organic material.

My plan is to remove the layers and overwinter them in a sheltered area.
Shame these aren't readily available in UK. At least I couldn't find them

Well worth the money
i would have added the granules each layer before stacking, but i'm lazy.
I have limited space so I have 3 green stalks. In theory it works but there are a few drawbacks. Often the water doesn't reach the roots unless they are planted toward the back of each section. If I'm not doing it correctly I'm hoping a viewer will advise.
U have to make sure all the reserves are clean or water won't be able to get to the bottom. When it's HOT I feel into the bottom and check if it's dry. If the leaves look dry on one plant get a long nose water can and water that plant. U have to do a little tweaking,.
Will basil stay “small” enough to grow in this system? When I had it in my garden it was huge. Like this demo. Thank you.
Thanks, Trish. I anticipate it getting bushy and filling the space above the pockets where it's planted. About the time it's getting big, it will probably be too hot out for the basil to do well and I'll plant something else.

I'm interested to know if you folks in the US have access to the pro mix soil bails , great deal nice for potting just need to mix in some compost or worm castings .

I found this very interesting and I am interested. I live in Idaho and also have some strong winds roar through occasionally. How do you anchor your system so it does not blow over?
It weighs quite a bit when full and the weight is centered and low. I've had some gusty winds since I started using it and didn't see it budge.

Hi Scott. Question, have you tried growing strawberries in the GreenStalk? I'm concerned that strawberries my not overwinter the cold temperatures in Chicago zone 5B? Let me know your thoughts. Thank you. This will be my first year planting in a GreenStalk.
If planting seeds let’s not forget to label the cells otherwise they all look alike Before they grow to identifiable age! Take it from experience! Lol Great system.

If you would like to grow plants through the winter and don't have a greenhouse, is there a way if using our garage (it's heated) and artificial lights as well as draining the water to outside to make this practical
Definitely. Light, heat and water are all you need to set up an indoor grow area.

Thanks. There isn't. I live in a windy, dusty area and haven't had any issues.

It might, as long as there is a large tray beneath it and an outlet hose for drainage.

You can if there is enough room for both plants.

Good review and it seems it is mostly works for herbs . Mostly for tomato , Red peppers and Bell peppers and brinjal plants for these plants did this work?
I think it works better for smaller plants. Big plants like tomato don't do as well.

Hi Scott do you think you could grow carrots in this?
You can definitely do short carrots.
How likely is it for a strong gust of window to topple this thing over? Seem like it would be a better design if the base pot was a wider pot than the rest and the top 2 tiers were a little more narrow to lower the center of gravity. If this falls maybe the top pots would crack/shatter and certainly lots of heavily damaged plants and spilled soil.
Mine held up to 80mph winds last year with no problem.

Scott: do you think you can use the same soil when replanting in it? What would you do?
You can but you'll have to amend it with fertilizer. It's a closed system so all the nutrients can be used up by the previous planting. You'll also have to consider diseases if any of your previous plants were diseased. In that case you'll definitely want to change out the soil and clean up/sanitise the tray before planting again.

How would this work for root vegetables?
It depends on the root. It's deep enough for radishes, beets, and short carrots, but I wouldn't recommend it for parsnips.
may I ask if you’re using chemical fertilizer just for demonstration purposes? Won’t that destroy the organic soil & soil life?
Yes, it is partly for demonstration. With soilless mixes, it takes awhile for the soil to develop life to develop and a little organic fertilizer in the beginning can help.

I'm new to Green Stalk, so far I'm not impressed. I have filled and assembled per instructions. My problem is with watering. I have my stack on a transporter, when watering, I fill the reservoir to the mark required and too much water just flows out the drain tube or over flows the transporter, making a huge mess on my porch. Even if you plug the drain tube, the transporter over flows. What am I doing wrong?
Check your soil moisture level. You might want to water less because the soil can't absorb all of the water. I find if I water with less water than the mark on the top once or twice a day I can avoid the overflow.
@@GardenerScott I'm using garden soil with compost mixed in. The soil is dry. The porch is enclosed so basically indoors. I have the entire system sitting in a tray, still the water flows through without soaking the soil.
@@ronsmith6233 THAT'S the problem.U have to use peat moss for good derange and water retention. One bag of compost to one bag of peat moss. Throw in half bag of perlite.
