- On January 18th 2022 Charlie turned 16 and he solo's a taildragger to celebrate. This was done in a 75 year old Stinson 108 off a grass field in Central Michigan. I know a few people who soloed a tailwheel on their birthday, but I had never watched it happen before. What an honor to be there and part of this day! Great job Charlie and look forward to watching you continue this venture.

Charlie, congrats!!! I did the same in a C-150 when I was 16 1/2 in 1969. I relieved mine, by seeing yours-thanks. Mine wasn’t videoed 😞. Im 69 now, had 40 years as an airline pilot, flying Boeing 767 for my last 28 years, having 28,000 total hours. Now, I fly my 1947 Bonanza v-tail for fun. Go for it son, it can be a great career and lifestyle👍🏻. Dave
Glad you enjoyed it Dave. I liked your story, started out in a small plane, advanced to the big boys and came back down to a Bonanza. All the fun is in the little ones.
Wow, just wow! My grandfather has a 108-3 too, he thought me to fly it well, but never trusted me enough to solo! Amazing!
These are great flying planes. Its never too late to get that solo in.
Amen! Put God first in every thing!🙏Congratulations Charlie!👍
🙂
good job kid, its nice to see youngers interested in flying, thanks to the dad for writing the checks!
Thank you. It is bigger to see the next generation having interest in flying.
I soloed my dad’s 108-3 when I was 19 years old. I’ll never forget that day. Good job Charlie! Please develop the habit of always keeping one hand on the throttle throughout takeoff or landing.
We talked about that while watchinruclips.net/video/U3hRFCP40F4g/видео.html the video. You can learn so much while watching what happens in the cockpit.
Thank you Great Lakes Bush Co for this precious video! I'm crying and smiling at the same time. Thank you Scooter for all the happiness you show for Charlie and Chris. Priceless!
That was a very special day, I was just honored to be there to witness it.
Congratulations Charlie and Chris! It was an awesome experience and was happy to be there. Thank you Scooter for all your hard work in filming this and editing it into a wonderful video we will all treasure!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
This was amazing in every way. I loved the 'The Lord's Prayer' in the beginning!! May God bless Charlie throughout a long lifetime. And, I loved the father/son bond!! LOVED this!!!
It's a great story
What an awesome feeling to see your son solo in a taildragger. I had that pleasure as well. My son soloed in a J3 Cub just before he turned 17 2 years ago. He now flies a Cessna 140. Great job Charlie !!!!!
Thank you for watching the video. Cessna 140 is a nice airplane, The J3 is even better :-)
Awesome job!! Moments like these will determine the fate of aviation. Congrats Charlie for a high goal accomplished! Congrats Chris for demonstrating what quality parenting looks like! Congrats Scooter for being the inspiration, support, and cinematographer for this amazing event! Proud to know you guys, strong work!
Chris is doing a great job of inspiring his son.
Well done young man! I soloed in a Citabria at Dalton Airport in 78’! Grass strips and taildraggers Rule!😉
It’s thrilling to me to see a fine young man grab a hold of aviation like this. Congratulations Charlie and God bless you and your dad. I also loved “The Lords Prayer”. Flying with a prayerful attitude will make him a safer pilot. He is a present help in time trouble. I have about 8000 hours in small planes came passed a few impossible situations only by the grace of God. Hope to get to meet you and your dad some day. I’ll be looking for that red Stinson if I’m able to get to Oshkosh this year.
I'm fairly sure if you look for this at KOSH you will find it. Charlie did a great job and I hope he's the one that flys it into KOSH.
Hope to see you there too Ralph
The 108 is a good solid plane, my experience with the 108 was in the army /air force tandem model called an L-5. I have flown in the four seat version, but never as command pilot. I managed about 50 hours in the L-5 and loved every hour of it.
So wonderful!
Right On Charlie
He rocked it. Charlie has more hours than most pilots I know, he was ready .
Stay safe young man, stay safe. You have been given a gift not many can share, the gift of flight.
It's that sharing the gift where the real joy and flying comes from. It's magical and watching someone experience ot for the first time, or teaching them how to fly is where I find some of my greatest joy in life.
Awesome video! Thank you. What's with Charlie flying in a T-shirt in January with snow on the ground? Brrrr!!!
Charlie's just a bada$$. I thought the same thing He's cruising around in a t-shirt, No gloves, in a tail dragger, in January. Charlie's my hero.
This is amazing.
I prefer my Stinson too!!!
I have a 172 and I'll take the Stinson any day over the Cessna
Congrats !! Becoming a pilot is a wonderful accomplishment that will give you lots of pleasure over the years. You get a double 'thumbs-up' for flying a taildragger. Come down to Williamsburg, Virginia, and stay for a few days in our pilot guest room. It's warmer in Virginia than up in Michigan! Now, onward to your PPL and then your IFR ticket. Keep up the good work.
I am sure Charlie will make this happen quickly! He's motivated to be a pilot.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo that's right 🛩🛩
Laughed and cried while watching! So awesome!
Awesome. I think people there were laughing and crying also!
CONGRATULATIONS! I own a Stinson 108 also.
Great birds.
Thanks scooter!
Is this Charlie?!
@@GreatMichiganBushCo yes
@@charlipez Read the comments brother... Lots of people are happy for you. That's how the aviation community works 😃
@@GreatMichiganBushCo gladly 😎
That is amazing and terrifying at the same time. Congratulations Charlie!
Very nice!
Thank you for watching the video!
Great Job Dear Boy
Freaking awesome, congrats
I’m so proud of my son
Good reason to be proud
Godspeed Charlie..greetings from Iceland
I'll pass on the wishes... though I bet Charlie reads this himself :-)
I had chills watching on final! I always love hearing when students learn in a tailwheel! Way to go Charlie.
Maybe we'll see Charlie at Air venture next year!
@@GreatMichiganBushCo YES!!!
Congrats Charlie and your loving ground crew! Well Done!
Congratulations Charlie oh, this was really awesome
From the comments it send I may have caught some of how awesome it was to watch this happen.
Very cool
It was a very cool day!
Happy belated birthday and congratulations on your drivers license and your solo!!!!
Dad picked him up from the department of motor vehicles, he did get the solo the airplane before the car. Awesome job Charlie
@@GreatMichiganBushCo That’s so awesome! I fly a paramotor, and I’m working on my private pilot. I have a lot of family in Michigan (trolls and yuppers!) Hopefully I’ll get to see you flying one day!
@@rafehotchkiss I'm a Yooper who flies with trolls. If you're in the central to southeast portion of Michigan give us a shout on the great Michigan bush company Facebook page. We'll come pick you up.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo That would be so awesome!!! Thank you!!!!
Great job. One of the best videos ever!!
I think it's one of the best videos the channel has because It captures one of those special moments in flying that few outside the aviation community get to experience.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo EXACTLY!!!! Just a great video. And really cool that the video will preserve that experience so he and his family to relive and share from now on. It must’ve been an honor to capture it for them and participate
@@truckpilotnate2972 It was a fantastic honor.. when Chris asked me to go up with Charlie after we pulled the plane out, I had a lump in my throat.
It doesn’t get any better than that! Nice job Charlie!
He really did a great job. I like how I got in a second airplane on the same day. Charlie's a rockstar pilot and doesn't even know it.
Nice job, Charlie!!! It literally brought me to tears! Finally someone who can fly that Stinson properly ;-) See you 'round man.
I had a difficult time not tearing up while I was making this video. When I was there it was exciting but Dad did a great job of stepping aside and taking in the solo the way a flight destructor/father should. Was fantastic to listen to Chris talk about his son fly.
Great job. What a feeling of accomplishment. Congrats.
Charlie really had a great day and enjoys flying. He did a super job, 2 planes in one day! Tailwheel. unique solo experiance.
Congrats Charlie! Awesome!
Charlie would just look at you with his steely eyes and say thanks.
Congratulations Charlie
I hope Charlie logs on and sees all these comments. I am sure he appreciates the congrats.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo I'm reading all of them!
That’s awesome Charlie !!! Great job 👍
Thanks for watching the video!
Congratulations! Nice job
He really did a great job.
Great job!!!
I liked his confidence as he flew. He really did well.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo I agree he will make a great aviator
Excellent job Charlie!!! Keep on keepin' on!!!!
I can't wait to go out and fly some with Charlie.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo I love seeing young people get into flying and soloing a classic such as that Stinson is a HUGE PLUS!!! I bet he's a fine young fella to fly with. Many of my students over the years have been teens and I love their enthusiasm!
@@cloudstreetjourneys6261 I've had the opportunity to fly with him a few times, or should I say around him. He stops spoken and yet as soon as he starts talking the confidence just pours out. And for good reason he's a good pilot.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo That's so awesome!! Tell him some old CFI from North Carolina said Congrats and Godspeed on his flying and, lastly, fly safe!!
@@cloudstreetjourneys6261 I will pass that along.
Awesomeness!!!!
If I only could catch how awesome it was! Such a great day
@@GreatMichiganBushCo But you did!!!!
👏👏👏
Thanks for watching
Nicely done! Maybe if I filmed myself on my solo people would stop asking when I'm going to be able to fly by myself (ATP)
My father filmed my solo back in 1987. I was embarrassed at the time, but a year ago I found it stashed in a cabinet at my father's house. It was better than finding a gold bar.
Congratulations
Thanks for watching!
Maybe we can get you on video when you solo 🙂
That would be awesome
@@thelittlebird69 I know a good fight instructor in Alma 😉
I’m sure we can make it happen for you too little bird.
Charlie where did you get the helmet and visor?
I think dad provided that part. He can probably pipe in with the brand.
Sky cowboy is where we purchased this helmet and headset.
Who gets the Stinson in the STOL contest, Chris or Charlie?
So two pilots can fly the same airplane. I sure hope to see Charlie in it next year.
Reid, don't go giving Charlie any ideas. Thats my plane!
@@bigtirestinson5367 So you're not going to let Charlie try in the Stinson... I think dads afraid he might loose.
@@GreatMichiganBushCo There’s a very good possibility I could get pushed into the crew chief position if I don’t stand my ground.
@@bigtirestinson5367 two pilots can enter with the same plane.
He running 31”s?
He is
Goood job:)!! Don't get left behind = P r o m o s m !
