  • The video shows a snapshot of flight operations on a Saturday afternoon in April 1991 at Berlin-Schönefeld Airport, shortly before Interflug, the GDR's national airline, ceased its operations. Enjoy the view on the apron from the observation terrace without any restriction by glass or a railing without a camera hole directly on the parked or rolling aircrafts. Take-offs or landings themselves haven't been filmed because the old south runway, runway 25R, is too far away, even with a telephoto lens.
The at the time of recording still independent Berlin-Schönefeld Airport (IATA code: SXF, ICAO code: until 1995: ETBS as a GDR airport, then EDDB) was the GDR's central airport and, along with Tegel and Tempelhof, one of the three international airports in Greater Berlin. The terminal building of the airport is integrated today as Terminal 5 into Berlin Brandenburg Airport (IATA: BER, ICAO: EDDB).
The following airplanes are shown in this film:
McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32, JAT Yugoslav Airlines YU-AHV, flight JU163 to Zagreb and continuing to Belgrade BEG
DC-9-32, Adria Airways YU-AHJ, flight number and destination unknown
Rom BAC 1-11-561RC Tarom YR-BRA, flight RO202 bound for Bucharest-Otopeni OTP
Ilyushin Il-62, Cubana CU-T1252, flight CU479 bound for Havana HAV
Airbus A310-304, Czech Airlines OK-WAB "Bratislava", flight OK812 originating in Prague PRG
Boeing 737-53A, Balkan Bulgarian Airlines LZ-BOA “City of Sofia”, flight LZ415 delayed originating in Sofia SOF
A parked Ilyushin Il-18 and the Interflug Tupolev Tu-134 D-AOBI can be seen in the apron. The Interflug Tupolev Tu-134 D-AOBL is honored with its own video.

Berlin-Schönefeld sieht nicht wie einen internationalen Flughafen aus. Wenige Flugzeuge, weniger Raum... Aber ein sehr interessanter Blick. Vielen Dank für das Laden!

I flew on a CSA A310 from Prague to NYC (JFK? EWR?) sometime in, I want to say, 1996 or 1997.
