Agreed, though I think pound-for-pound, Jacques Schulz was just as good in his own way, Ben Edwards does a solid job on C4 at the moment, and I wish John Watson reprised his role in the box alongside Ben. They don't have the excitement factor attached to them, but Allan McNish and Gary Anderson are really good as well.
Carlos Barton You know Jacques Schulz? Nice! Yes he and Murray have a lot in common. The passion, the humor, the respect for every single driver on grid, whether he's leading the race or running last... Such a shame he quit 5 years ago. I would buy German pay TV just for him! But Murray is/was on a completely different level of course. One of the (if not THE) best commentators of any kind ever
This man is a legend. I miss Murray's voice so much during F1 weekends now. A gentle, kind hearted gentleman...but always had the 'Murrayisms' as comic relief. I wish him many happy years of retirement.
A true legend! I miss that era of commentary on F1. He and Hunt were a great team. Murray is currently 95yo, and many may not know that he graduated from Sandhurst military academy, and he was a distinguished tank commander in the Royal Scots Greys in WWll, and left with the rank of Captain. He saw action with the 4th Armoured Brigade in the Battle of the Reichswald, part of the mass pincer movement of the Allies that ended the war.
I could listen to this man all day telling me his stories. Sitting next to my dad and hearing Murray's voice as we watch a race every Sunday are cherished memories for me.
Dave's 'just doin' his job.' I think it's safe to say he respected and admired Murray Walker as much as anybody. RIP Murray Walker you brought joy to so many.
Man I miss murray walker in F1. The commentator is part of what makes a sport exciting. Their job is to(or should be) convey that excitement to the crowd and get them going. And he did that well. I probably wouldnt have enjoyed F1 the same wothout his enthusiasm.
"I don't make mistakes, I make prophecies which immediately turn out to be wrong." For me, the key to what made Murray's commenting interesting was his wit, his self awareness over his own hysterical and - often - nonsensical commenting. And the sense of humor that he had about it. An interview with Clarkson in which he said he wanted to comment snookers was the confirmation of it.
So glad Murray introduced me to F1. I don't think I'd have gotten so into it if it wasn't his excited voice keeping me informed and I bet there are thousands just like me out there who watch it still today because Murray made it exciting to watch.
Met him once many moons ago in Silverstone. Not only is he a legend of the sport, he's also a WW2-veteran and hero. He has my utmost respect. Hope he is with us for many more years to come.
"Arrgh! He's going into the pool (at Monaco)" "Well, that should put out the flames." LMFAO, James "Shunt" Hunt was always perfect as additional commentary with Murray. So sad that we lost him to cancer in 1993. Even before his days in the commentary booth with Murray, he was one hilarious personality. Only James would show up for morning free practice wearing a T-shirt that said "Sex: the breakfast of champions"! I am not making this up. RIP James.
Murray is such a top, top man. A real good guy. I hope he is well. My first years watching F1, F3 and BTCC, his voice was as much a part of it as any driver. My fav 'Murrayism' is still one that is actually quite clever. 1993 (i think) BTCC Silverstone - Julian Bailey flips Will Hoy on to his roof; "the car upside down is a Toyota". Perfect. We need more commentators with his passion, wit and character/charisma!! (Or really more ppl full stop).
To paraphrase a certain Mr E Morecambe "He says all the right words but not necessarily in the right order I'll give you that sunshine I'll give you that"
I think you're talking him too literal. It's not a mainstream or popular sport in the US, of course there's a small minority of people in the US who are fans but most people in the US don't know anything about it.
What he meant was it's not a popular sport. NASCAR is much more popular. Along with baseball, NHL, NFL, NBA. After that farce of a US Grand Prix in Indianapolis I don't blame some Americans for going off it. 2005 I think it was.
It's nowhere near as big in the US as it is in the UK. You're taking him too literally, of course F1 has fans all over the world but it's not a mainstream sport in the US like baseball or NFL.
Passed away today aged 97. Absolute legend F1 wasn't the same without him.
I remember chatting with him for 5 mins up at thruxton about ten years ago, sad but highlight of my life, he got me hooked on F1,
dunno him.but rip
Legend. Loved by millions. Thank you Murray Walker. Now hope you arent arguing with James Hunt....

He was the voice of motorsport in the uk, nobody has come close to him
Sadly no more. Murray Walker died aged 97 on 13 March 2021. RIP.
Some say Murray originally created, “Every 60 seconds in Africa, a minute passes.”
lmaooooo
All we know is...
This man is a legend, a true gentleman and sad he doesn't commentate no more F1.
Patrick den Engelse its not F1 without him
michael jagger i like ben edwards as well though
Couldn't agree more. This man is the voice of Formula 1. Nobody has come close since and nobody ever will.
@@DarkLight753 Brundle isn't bad. I hate crofty though
I have the honour to be one of his personal carer now.
"They're pulling the burning Berger from the flames!"
lmao hahaha
Is that a real one??, cos if it is its awesome
Yeah it's a real murrayism
@@fluoroscowhen Berger slammed into the wall in Imola I believe, think it was 89 not certain.
Honest when Murray sadly passes Formula 1 and the whole of motorsport will pay massive respect, great man.
For sure they will, though I hooe it will never be any time soon
Sean McGeeney Yes me also.
For sure, the man's 96 now I believe. That will probably hit me harder than any celebrity death.

Murray Walker. National treasure.
RIP MURRAY WALKER, the real voice of F1

Murray, the man - the myth - the legend
BadTrip he is a real existing man, not a fucking myth, lol
You are clearly struggling a bit with English.. Stay off the Internets.

As an American, I appreciate it. Still not many people know about F1, but it’s growing in popularity. Thank you Murray RIP
What became of Scott Speed?
Murray the words never came out in the wrong order.
GO GO GO!
So I went looking for the "it's Tarquini" clip and now RUclips is taking me on a journey through various "Murrayisms".

R.I.P. Murray Walker ❤️
Race in Peace with your beautiful voice of Murraynism
Thanks to make F1 exciting to watch
I’m sorry to hear that Murray Walker has passed away yesterday aged 97

Same can be said for World Cup matches.
My absolute favorite F1 announcer/commentator. At the starts, he had me at the edge of my seat, as if I was right in the grandstands. Amazing....
Grew up watching/listening to murray for years. and I am one those few american f1 fans, but we're out there!
Letterman actually runs a Indycar team!!
RIP Murray, I'm combing through RUclips for all Murraisms and interviews. A true legend!
A shout out to Darrell Eastlake too, a real legend of Australian sports broadcasting
Murray Walker says the same thing but in a different way.
"I don't make mistakes, I make prophecies which immediately turn out to be wrong."
For me, the key to what made Murray's commenting interesting was his wit, his self awareness over his own hysterical and - often - nonsensical commenting. And the sense of humor that he had about it.

What a Legend. I grew up with him and I miss him. I wish he would return
"Alain Prost knows what the score is as he can see Nigel Mansell in his earphones... I mean his mirrors!"
Brilliant! Even he cracked himself up with that gem!! Thanks for all the gaffes and laughs. RIP Murray Walker.
And James Hunt said: "That's guaranteed Colemanballs, Murray."
It's not enough to be fast, you have to be good, and he's that
One if my favourites was "He's gone from 7th to 6th to 4th to 5th and now to 3rd and this is only lap 23."
Is that Mansell at GBR 1988?
"Sometimes the words come out in the wrong order" - bless him.
Legend, miss you Murray
The man, the legend that is Murray Walker. RIP

Murray: "Hello Mr. Leno, nice to meet you."

Love Murray, especially when James hunt was commentating with him.
What a fabulous life 97 years doing something he adored
Love you Murray Walker, LEGEND!!!
Id rather meet murray walker more than any one from F1 past or present

A legend, not only for the brits.
Even though he did not know me, he listened to what I had to say, brilliant and clever man.

RIP. Murray, an absolute legend
In Canada a number of years ago we had an Ice Hockey commentator named Harry Neale who had very similar analyses.
"Unless I'm very much mistaken... I *am* very much mistaken!"
The man was the reason I fell in love with f1. Its not the same sport, unless I am very much mistaken.... I am very much mistaken
Legend!!!
Formula 1 had Murray Walker, NASCAR had Ken Squier, Indycar had Paul Paige three great commentators of motor racing

I assure you Murray, we know about F1 in the US.

There is plenty of F1 fans in America, I for one have been watching since Mario Andretti won the World Drivers Championship with Lotus in 1978.
It's nowhere near as big in the US as it is in the UK. You're taking him too literally, of course F1 has fans all over the world but it's not a mainstream sport in the US like baseball or NFL.
