Nothing compares to Manhattan. But life in Philly is awesome. Plus knowing NYC is only and hour and a half away is comforting.

@@Philadelphiasuburbs I am 64 and though I have never lived in NYC I have had friends there and my daughter was renting an Apartment in Harlem 135th and Broadway and it was so expensive she moved back home. Philly is not cheap but compared to other big cities it's reasonable and the best thing is NYC not far and Atlantic City even closer. Plus Baltimore and DC short train rides away. So it's a great middle ground for many great places!

Lived in Philadelphia and jersey city across the Hudson and went into NYC daily both cities are very beautiful I would have to say I prefer Philly because it’s miles cheaper and I really like Drexel where I go to school there is a lot of crime in Philadelphia though but same for NYC I think that northeast Philly is very underground I love the Russian ethnic food because my heritage is Russian also love the history in Philly I hate that the city closes so early though in NYC you can truly get anything you want at any hour I also really like Washington DC but again it gets pricey Philly and
Dc are also still so close that you can very conveniently catch a train to NYC for the day

Philly has one of the best food scenes in the country, Id put it up against any city except maybe NYC, haha. Philly also has some of best suburbs on the east coast. Despite what people say about traffic Philly is incredibly accessible from the western burbs often just 20 minutes to center city. NYC on the otherhand you might as well forget it if your not actually living downtown. This fact is a big reason philly housing cost stay lower, going downtown for dinner and a show is common place for the suburban crowd, its easy to access philly and not live there.

I went to see the Liberty bell when I was in the 5 or 6 th grade from my school in NYC. It's time to move and can't afford it in NYC

Not much difference in climate at all since they’re only around two hours away from each other

Native Philadelphian who has lived in NYC for 30 years: The difference is culture/people. Philly is VERY working class, sports and medical oriented; no world-class sophistication and high crime. Also, ugly or lack of attractive people. NYC - More diverse work/cultural economyies, world-class sophistication. A LOT of attractive people. Nightlife: Philly people over 35 don't go out bc most are married/coupled. NYC, Everyone goes out. Philly "action" is contained to Center City/U of Penn areas. NYC - ALL boroughs have a "social vibrancy." There you have it.

Totally agree. Why do people even attempt to compare Philly with New York. Philly is a major REGIONAL city and certainly the "big dog" in PA. New York is a world class INTERNATIONAL city for a variety of reasons.
Just see who rides the subways in each city and you will instantly learn the difference.

@@billm1866 Everybody rides the subway in NYC, they have to. Only the poor do so in Philly. America began in Philly, and the world knows it; other American cities contributed to what America stands for only by proving they can make it bigger. But nobody does it better. NYC is soooo Donald Trump. Philly is soooo Benjamin Franklin.
