I agree with the book boyfriend thing in terms of how odd it is to “be in love” with someone you’ve never met or interacted with and can never have a real relationship with. It’s sometimes even unhealthy to have obsessions with fictional characters because you are so caught up in a a fictional character you cannot have proper relationships with real people because you are now holding real people to the same standard as a character someone created in order to be attractive. You expect people to act in a certain way or have the qualities that your favorite character has and of course they’ll never live up to that so you become disappointed in people or even reject possible relationships because they’re not living up to that standard. You miss out on having real relationships and creating real bonds. People are far more intricate than the most elaborate fictional character and it’s impossible to expect human beings to act the same as a character someone came up with. Of course that’s not to say you can’t find a fictional character attractive but you have to have a balance in terms of how that attraction will affect your view of yourself and others, especially if it does so in a negative way.

Exactly, multidimensional people of course have far more room for 'failure' or 'flaws'. But I guess on the other hand you could also argue, that people treat others really badly in real life and sometimes it's good to see that it doesn't have to be that way

Everything you say is true and undeniable. For me… I spend a lot of time thinking about fictional characters and I don’t see the difference between this as opposed to absolutely loving a band or celebrity. So while “boyfriend” may sound very extreme I do think of them during my day and consider how they might think about parts of life when something reminds me of them for some reason.
Example: I appreciate the book character Jacks Prince of Hearts and enjoy laughing at his version of crazy extreme but I am definitely grateful that he could never be real.
Another I enjoy Hudson from the Crave series because he is an enjoyable vampire to be in a relationship with. He also could not be real but I think of him. 😅
Also I really appreciate Thadred by Elisabeth Wheatley, he is also very charming.
So I propose that when you see “book boyfriend” we could just interpret it as a character that can be enjoyed and takes us to a place that can make us feel more.
Again, just like Celebrities, media characters, music etc.
      Just a thought.

I don't do the book boyfriend/girlfriend thing either. But I have picked one of each just to have an answer ready. They are Camlin from Malice by John Gwynne and Reika from The Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa.

Same for the characters who are also readers. Also right after Harry Potter there are so many grade schools for supernaturals both in shows and books and I don’t need to go back to grade school every year for the rest of my life like woah there, let’s just ‘change the channel’ sometimes 😂

Oh yeah, there were so many! Also a lot of boarding school supernaturals in particular I think

Hey once again, Julie! This was a really entertaining video. Finally, hot takes that are truly hot takes. I really agree with your points, especially the book-to-movie adaptation point. Nothing will be 100% accurate and I like that we get to see the director's interpretation of the story. It's the beauty of literature, after all, to see the same piece of art differently from everyone's eyes. I don't read many fantasy books, but I have noticed how long they are. I should try that genre sometime.
Your videos really inspire me to make a channel as well! Maybe I'll try it out in 2025 when I finish my university applications.

Also, I agree with the book boyfriend/girlfriend thing. The closest I feel is with Raskolnikov, the protagonist of Crime and Punishment, which I honestly feel more of a sense of comfort & likeness towards him rather than romantic interest. He's handsome, he's cute, but he's not someone I'm interested in that way. I feel like I'm more... fascinated by these characters or sometimes find certain qualities attractive than calling them my 'book partner'. Of course, there's nothing wrong with having book boyfriends/girlfriends, but I do find it quite irritating when you want to talk about a book and all the others are talking about is how attractive the characters are rather than the actual content of the story. It's all a matter of balance.

Thank you so much ❤️ glad to hear that you are inspired to start your own channel! I would say just go for it and treat it as a hobby without any pressure. What uni coursers are you applying for? Best of luck with your applications!
And I hope you get lots of books for Christmas too ☺️

@@thebookishjulie Thank you! Yes, I'll treat RUclips as a hobby, it's something I've been wanting to do for a long time.
I'm going to take courses related to languages and the humanities. :) Not sure which one specifically because I still haven't done the interviews, but I handed my portfolio in for language arts major and arts program in language and culture!!
