In deze tutorial configureer ik een mesh netwerk. Daar ik problemen had met deze configuratie met RouterOS 7 ben ik overgeschakeld naar RouterOS 6.48.4. Persoonlijk ben ik geen fan van een mesh netwerk maar wil een antwoord geven op een vraag die ik heb gehad. Hopelijk leren jullie hier toch wat bij.

i do believe wds-slave works similar to ap-bridge, and it has in this setup wds-slave because you playing with mesh/wds
A wireless connection is established between the access point and the WDS slave.
This is done by means of the hardware radio interfaces.
The WDS interface works as an access point indeed. But because of the mesh configuration you get a kind of layer2 routing.
I hope this is somewhat understandable.

Beste Richard, persoonlijk zou ik een roaming netwerk configureren door overal dezelfde SSID te gebruiken en verdelen over de 3 bruikbare kanalen 1,6 en 11.

no the portal is not a server but you can compare it with the root bridge in the spanning tree protocol. Both devices are wirelessly connected to each other and each broadcasts the SSID. The WDS station receives the data and retransmits it. This results in a halving of the data throughput. I hope I expressed myself well here.

can you explain on english what wmp-preq-destination-only does
With PREG-destination-only, the WDS slave will respond to the Path request from the portal but will not continue broadcasting it to other WDS slaves. That's why I'm checking that out here.
