I'm sorry but this is incorrect. By setting your color space to Rec.709-A you're tailoring your output to just Apple devices but on different devices, it will be wrong. The best method is to let resolve handle the color by setting it to Davinci Wide Gamut and then tailoring your output to what the location you're going to. I slammed my head against the wall for about a week before figuring all of this out. Color is an obnoxious monster but the general rule of thumb is that you calibrate your monitor (and your resolve viewer with a 3D LUT on a Mac) and then output with some sort of standard. Tailoring your output for your specific device is the wrong way to handle it and will actually lead to more issues than it solves. Any questions, feel free to ask... I love talking about this stuff!
I have a problem after u export my colors looks good on my laptop and phone but immediately I post on social media all the looks wash almost like over exposed log.. any help windows
Switching over from Final Cut to Da Vinci and have been spinning my wheels for over 24 hrs trying to figure out why my exports were different and how to fix. Finally something worked. Thank you!!!
Thank you! Using DaVinci Resolve 18 We chose for Timeline Color Space "Rec 709 gamma 2.4". Output Color Space being "Same as Timeline" and we got what we wanted. But it was your video that gave us the clue to these changes for success. Big Thank You once again. (I guess did our coloring at whatever the hell it was set at.)
Some of the nudists in my videos have very dark skin and I started to notice that after output the dark areas in the image were a bit darker than I had set. You offered the very solution I was seeking.
Thankyou soo much!!! I was depressed from morning cause I wasn’t able to fix the issue even after watching some other youtubers vids, I’m so happy I found yours !! Thankyou sm ❤
The method in this video worked for me after I changed some settings on the render page: -Go to Advanced Settings -Change 'Color Space Tag' to Rec.709 -Change 'Gamma Tag' to Gamma 2.4 That did it for me
So I’m bit confused .. I did notice when I export on mac laptop the colors faded a bit but divinci resolve they are heavier saturated look nice .. what I wanted was to export exactly how it is on divinci .. when I did these settings what’s on divinci is now faded and not what it was ( if I go back to rec scene it’s super dark darks ) I just wanted to export was shown on timeline to be look exactly like that .. if so is it that these settings display what will be exported and what was displayed was just a smoother toned illusion and now I have to re adjust my colors ?
I thought it was just my imagination! This verifies that it wasn't! We'll see with my next export now. Thanks so much for this helpful tip that many can benefit from!
Thanks for the video! My issue is always the same. My videos look fantastic on my phone, on my Mac… but when I watch it on TV (Samsung qled) it looks washed out/ blurry… what could be the reason?
I have been going round and round with this! I have done these settings yet it still doesn’t seem to work like it does for everyone else! Any idea why this might be?
what about image quality loss? I have a great image but when exported it seem to be mildly blurry, and not the same quality as original. It looks better if I double the timeline resolution and zoomx2 but its still not same as original image.
Old but great video.. I have a problem after u export my colors looks good on my laptop and phone but immediately I post on social media all the looks wash almost like over exposed log.. any help
Hi Dan, I'm using windows 10; But i will give this ago as it will be really interesting to see the difference with my footage, il also check what the footage looks like on my tv....Great video as always Dan, Blessing to you and the family...From the uk and take care....
@@kobusterblanche8555 I understand....but unfortunately you worked with colors that were visible on your screen in Resolve only...Look at the bright side: now you solved the problem for good.
It's a pretty apple/quicktime specific problem, you should be fine on pc technically If youre having similar issues on a pc it's usually the export settings or your monitor not being calibrated correctly
@moviegeek1111 thanks for your reply. I have followed the instructions on RUclips settings when exporting videos but it's same. Can you please recommend what settings I need to be using when exporting on a PC?
@@LucyAtiigaASMR so if you're grading on a pc, the best way would be to set davinci color managed instead of unmanaged in your project settings tab, then set your input color space to rec709, set your timeline color space to davinci wide gamut (so you have a very wide color space to work on in your timeline) and your output as rec709. When you're exporting, assuming you are editing for web views exclusively, go to the advanced tab and export in rec709 gamma 2.4. This is the most standard way to do it since color management will rely on the mathematical calculations within DaVinci resolve to output your image instead of relying solely on your eyes. If you're still having issues after this it is most likely your display which should probably be calibrated. Now color accurate display calibration is a pretty insane rabbit hole to fall into (not to mention expensive asf) so i'd recommend you not do that.
@moviegeek1111 Thank you very much for taking your time to explain all this to me. I will have a go at this. Thank you very much once again 😊 🙏 God bless you 🙏 😊.
I am getting really frustrated, as I applyed all of that stuff, even checking other creators how to deal with washed out videos and... it didn't help. I wonder if is there anything else to apply... I color graded my clip once more after changing all settings, but it cam out with egsact the same result... I want to throw that computer on the wall... but thank you for your job anyway ;)
oh, there is still diference, less saturation :( I have no idea, what more shoud i do. It looks same just if I render in proress, but if I render for example MP4, there is less saturation although that I made your settings, could you help me?
Amazing tutorial. skipped a lot of the talking and the 1:45ish intro mostly bc I just wanted to get to the point and start working. I think some of the quirks should stay like ‘no idea I just know that it works” 😂 funny and playful. I also know a short tutorial will have higher views so just some feed back.
Thanks for your comment! However, I' d rather keep making vids my own way than just throwing 'useful info' to people who won't ever care about my content...so I create cinematic/entertaining content for the ones who enjoy it and, at the same time, they will find it useful. For all the ones that comment with an attitude (not you...at least you were really nice) like if I owe them the info, like if I work for them...well....I don't want their view and as far as I'm concerned they can find the useful info somewhere else. I'm a creator, not a public service. Have a great day!
I've been complaining about this for months but I didn't think it had a solution. THANK YOU!

So do the colors look the same when you upload to youtube etc?
Yes, the colors will look exactly the way you edit and grade them in Resolve...they won't look washed out.
it didn't work for my project, this had never happened before. I've used your settings so hopefully on my next project this will not happen?
If you applied my settings from now on what you see on the screen in Resolve is what you'll get in the file after rendering.

How did it go?
I applied these settings after already graded my clips, it then made everything even more washed out, does this mean I have to re-grade everything?
yes....but it will be the last time...from now on what you see will be what will be exported!
