Swat 4 ost is basically you saving the day as a police officer, meanwhile RoN ost is just you preventing an already horrible situation from getting worse.
It seems like that, each call is just another situation out of control leading you into a darker level of hell thats been slowing eroding the city over years.
Ready or not has a vibe of complete and utter hopelessness. It takes place in a city during a severe economic depression. People have gotten desperate and crime is completely out of control. And there you are. A commander of a small swat element in an underfunded police department. Sent in to situations, knowing damn well that you will likely be taking few suspects alive because most are willing to die if it means their families eat that night. Swat4 gives off the vibe of uncertainty and the need to establish control. It takes place in a city in New England. In many of the situations, the police have arrived and set up a perimeter and have been negotiating long before you and your team arrive. The suspects can get pretty crazy and unpredictable but nothing pepperball CS gas can’t help. The members of your team will crack jokes and make comments during situations to ease the tension. It makes it all the more shocking when you do come across something fucked up like Fairfax and terrone tenement.
Team members do make comments and crack wise during missions in RoN. In "23 Megabytes a Second," one of the members will jokingly challenge another one to a 1v1 in whatever game is installed on the streamers' PCs. In "Thank You, Come Again," one of the members will reminisce about going to diners with his dad.
@@CrizzyEyes RoN teammates are cracking jokes, but they are usually grim. I remember some of them saying "Do you like asbestos?" in dilapidated house in Twisted Nerve.
The voice acting in the scene where you discover Whats In The Basement at the cult tenemant in SWAT 4 is so fucking good too, even TOC sounded disturbed by what he was hearing.
You can tell the difference between both soundtracks pretty clearly RoN is set in a city that has lost itself, The desperate few and brave try to save what little hope is left in face of overwhelming odds. Even as they struggle the city continues to spiral downwards Meanwhile in SWAT4 "YOU COME INTO MY CITY, KILL MY CIVS AND HAVE THE GULL TO CALL ME PIG?!"
SWAT 4 has that more upbeat feel, the thrill of breaching door and taking down suspects where as RoN’s has a more serious, ‘Breach/Clear straight to business, no preservation of life, and Exfil’ vibe to it
The music in swat does a good job making you feel like the raid is in progress but with ron it sounds like "yep we are going to have paperwork now or very soon."
that third RoN track with the violins is so killer. It's perfect for the game. It's super tense and brooding but also urgent in a way that I haven't heard in an OST before.
Swat is more upbeat sounding, like the raid is going well, taking suspects alive and no officers are getting hurt. Ready or not is more dark and gritty sounding like you just watched the first man in the stack fall with a hole in his chest and the suspect responsible is now rolling on the floor choking on his blood after getting his lungs filled with 7.62x51 and now have to tell Toc that one is not coming home so they can inform the family.
Swat 4 has the stench of 90s optimism. Full on Good Cops vs bad crooks RoN is fully cynical, uncaring, methodical, there’s no heroes in RoN, your not a good guy, your bringing order to chaos, stuck in the rotting carcass of a once great American City, a testament to the failure of the American Dream in the 21st century. it’s a losing battle and you know it…. the question is *Are you Ready or Not?*
Pros: OST Gameplay Environmental storytelling Cons: THE BASEMENT You will see on your screen the best and worst depictions of moundain evil mankind is capable of, how it probably looks in real life. Which game I am talking about? Both! (I'm sorry, I was born in 1995 so, RoN is just my vibe, SWAT people, love, respect and all the feels.)
Head down ducking for cover in an office cubical in Swat4 and you hear one these bangers come on. Certainly one of the things I fondly remember Swat4 for. Enjoying RoN too, their soundtrack is great too.
So to summarize In Ready Or Not. You’re really just trying to stop one of the many horrible situations from becoming even worse In swat 4 you’re just stopping one very bad isolated situation from spiraling out of control (not saying like there isn’t horrid stuff in Swat 4)
SWAT 4: Heelll yeeahhh we stopped the badguys we are so cool'n stuff RoN: Cop1: So how many were killed? Cop2: 6 teaches 15 students and then himself when we showed up Cop1:... Cop2:...i just ca- Cop1: yeah... Cop1: call me later dude y'know... Cop2: yeah dont worry dude
I never played swat 4 so idk how they stack up. RON just had a 1.0 update with a large overhaul to the squad's brains that improves them im various ways, 2 biggest i can think of being getting out of your way in terms of movement and aim while also automatically moving to secure hostages, downed suspects and their weapons when it is safe to do so. There is some form of campaign they released with the update you can play solo. Each individual map can be played multiplayer if you have a crew, idk the max members but launching a private game solo sends you in with no backup
RoN is a little bit less polished narratively, but there is still good stuff to look for. It has awesome environmental storytelling just like SWAT 4, but it feels a bit more sterile between missions since there's a bunch of cops just silently staring at you or doing nothing in the station. There are still voiced briefings and 9-1-1 calls, though, which can be quite harrowing (especially the school shooting one). It's generally a lot more serious and less camp than SWAT 4 and doesn't shy away from disturbing material. The squad AI is definitely serviceable in RoN. I wouldn't say you need to play co-op, but it still benefits from it.
@@niggacockball7995 swat 4 is extremely easy for me now. You get a lot of reaction time from bad guys, as long as you know how to use tactics you are set. In Ready or not, you could do the right thing all the time and still get smoked. AI enemies are super accurate and have crackhead reaction time
I wish RON would stop being compared to Swat4... it was a good game for it's time but there's room to innovate. last time I played the AI in RON was still both stupid, and robotic

Swat 4 is when you are excited to join the team, RoN is you after 10 years of service.
new RON updates can view teammates service time, adds another layer of sadness.

The Fairfax mission is the first thing I tell people who says that swat 4 isn't dark enough.
