the pope wouldn't let Henry get a divorce, so Henry divorced the pope instead
Yeah basically, that about sums it up.
Henry’s divorce case relied on Catherine consummating her marriage to his brother, Catherine had a very convincing argument that she hadn’t. Unable to defeat this pint, his trial fell apart.
It helps to be King at the time along with Martin Luther conducting his antics and shenanigans.
I believe prince Arthur died because of an illness called sweating sickness. People did drop like flies back then.. even royalty who’ve had the best care those days had to offer at their disposal.
Awesome reaction you’re doing great! 🖤😄
Truth be told though, the "care" was as likely to kill you as the diseases were. lol
@@aaronburdon221 that’s true! Did mean by “care” the resources they had like servants bringing them food, water, helping them clean up themselves etc. That way they’ve had a bit more chance of survival than the general public. The medicine back in the day was not very safe indeed lolbacktoyou 😄
24:19 on the day Anne of Cleves was to be introduced to Henry VIII, he attempted to surprise her by jumping out at her while dressed in a Robin Hood costume. Anne angrily demanded to know who this fat smelly guy with a puss-leaking leg was, and one of her maids meekly replied “that is the king.” It was already a bad first impression, and I suspect Henry only went through with the marriage because Anne was related to a German duke, and after splitting with the Catholic Church, Henry needed all the allies he could get. After the divorce, Henry made sure historians of his time recorded Anne as being unattractive and a pain to be around. Anne got the last laugh I think, by the time of her death she had become one of England’s richest land-owners.
Henry didn't actually hate Anne of Cleves given by how well she was treated after the divorce. She was given special privileges, a castle to live in, servants etc. She was still able to attend the royal court and Henry even gave her a title which IIRC made her an honorary "sister" to the King
She was even friends with Henry's 2 daughters
How could somebody just kill his wife?
OJ: Hold my beer.
IF he did it. It's all in his book...
Lol
Fun:Fact. Henry weighed size measured 32 inches in 1512, grew to 54 inches ; Henry weighed nearly 400 pounds when he died in 1547.
How is this fact fun?
Henry 7(Henry 8th's father) is also known as the paranoid king.In fact the whole doubt of the present royal family's legitimacy comes from his accession as its still not 100% sure he was a suitable heir.
He fought the last war of the war of the roses(inspiration for the game of thrones) and in many ways after his wife's death who he is said to have dearly loved, he became more paranoid as he was really scared his legitimacy would be questioned.
"In fact the whole doubt of the present royal family's legitimacy comes from his accession as its still not 100% sure he was a suitable heir."
He derived his claim from Conquest not his Lancaster ancestry from his mother's side. He was the last Conqueror king of England and so the royal family is absolutely legitimate, at least as legitimate as the rest of the kings following William I. Also because he married Elizabeth of York, daughter of Edward IV, his son does have an even more solid claim through her.
Henry had 6 wives - 3 Catherine’s, 2 Anne’s and 1 Jane. You have to know that for Henry, everything that went wrong in his reign was always someone else’s fault.
Both Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard were accused of treason and that was the death penalty. Most of Anne’s charges were likely trumped up, which was started by Thomas Cromwell who wanted to obtain his power and didn’t like Anne’s influence over Henry. The charges of adultery and plots to assassinate him were more likely to be true but in the end Anne played a dangerous game and she lost , convincing Henry to divorce his first wife and make her his Queen as she was certain she could give him the son he wanted ( sadly a couple of her miscarried pregnancies would have been boys) It was easier to have Anne executed than Henry go through another humiliating divorce and admit to the Catholic Church he was wrong for breaking with them. Her only real ‘crime’ if you can call it that is that she didn’t produce a living male heir.
Catherine Howard did cheat but understandable since Henry was treating her badly when he couldn’t perform in the bedroom. She even admitted it on the scaffold just before her execution. This coupled with Henry’s brain injury and his paranoia sealed both women’s fate.
Actually, Katherine Howard was sexually assaulted her whole life and I'm pretty sure she was by Thomas Culpepper too, but Henry didn't care because it meant she wasn't "pure" anymore
Anne actually did commit some of the crimes she was accused of. So she wasn't exactly innocent. And the people actually called her The King's Whore.
Yes I'm sure Catherine's last words were "He was crap in bed!"
@@CocoCece08 She was accused of talking of the king's death (a treasonable offence) which she did with a male friend (I can't remember his name!). It's possible she also had an affair with this man, but no one will ever know the truth of it. As for the others who she was alleged to have slept with - almost certainly not true, though we'll never know.
24:34 the guy Thomas Cromwell, felt bad for him, he went through humiliation, accused for numerous things, and labeled as a traitor, he lost his home and property before beheaded and on the same day, the day Cromwell is being executed, King Henry is marrying the.. 17 year old
By the way it's not mentioned but King Henry felt so regretted that he ordered the execution of Cromwell, anger sometimes..
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but wheels of Parmesan cheese are quite valuable and used as a potential long term store of value. Even today, there is at least on bank in Italy that will take and hold Parmesan cheese as an asset or collateral.
Henry had a son named Henry Friztroy Friztroy means son of the king and his Brother died from the sweating Seckness
There is some evidence to suggest either way to suggest that Anne Boleyn may have been guilty or innocent of some of the charges against her. The most compelling arguments are the ones suggesting she was innocent though. As the date of her execution approached, she sat with her old ally and friend Thomas Cranmer, the Archbishop of Canterbury. Cranmer asked if she had anything to confess, before they eyes of god. Anne professed her innocence to cranmer, which is significant, as Anne (along with most people of the time) was highly religious and would have been unlikely to lie in confession. Another supporting theory of her innocence is that Thomas Cromwell (the Kings leading advisor) engineered her downfall. He had plenty of motive; He and Anne had fallen out and she threatened and was rude to him in the aftermath of this. Cromwell also wanted to marry Henry's olded daughter Mary to the prince of Spain and engineer an alliance with the catholic country and Anne (a staunch protestant and not Mary's mother - Henrys first wife catherine was) stood in the way of this. Therefore, Anne had to go. It seems very likely he cooked up the plot to get rid of her, though what's not known is how much the king knew of it.
Kings were expected to have mistresses. Some mistress was formally given the title of mistress to the king. He had an illegitimate son that he acknowledged and he looked at legitimizing him, but he died at 17. I think it was the same thing as what killed his brother, Sweating Sickness. We still don't know what it was but it was said that people would be fine at breakfast and dead by dinner.
If a wife committed adultery it was possible that she could give birth to an heir that wasn't really related to the king. This was considered treason.
"fine at breakfast and dead by dinner" sounds like poison to me...
Henry Fitzroy (1st Duke of Richmond and Somerset) was Henry VIII's illegitimate son who died at age 17
Fitzroy literally means Son of a king, so if you know any Fitzroys, you know that they're descendants of illegitimate royals
I would highly recommend watching Wolf Hall, which is a historical drama series about the Thomas Cromwell's social climbing as well as the rise and fall of Anne Boleyn.
Some say, when Henry was hurt from his accident, he lost his mind, as we have all seen.
You might like "Drawn of History's video on King John. It'll help you understand more about England's history.
The Hanover chin is a famous example of the European royal inbreeding
No one is quite sure as to how much Henry was involved in the plot to get rid of Anne Boleyn. He may have known nothing and been fooled by Cromwell and his friends into thinking Anne had been unfaithful, or he may have asked for them to cook up some plot to remove her himself, due to her not producing a male heir. It's also said he had begun to believe she was a witch and had seduced him into an unholy marriage that would produce no male heir.
Divorce, Beheaded, Die, Divorce, Beheaded and lived.

Hey, ever consider watching Overly Sarcastic Productions? It's just as good as Oversimplified, if not better, and if you do start with Miscellaneous Myths.

Hey Ashley! Enjoyed your reaction.
How do you kill your own wife? Heard of domestic violence, one of the top killers of women?
I think that Henry 8th is so well remembered is that he exemplifies the worst of human nature...
Found the social justice warrior.
Well we can say that Henry the 8th never had any sons which was disappointing for him but at the end one of his children became queen of england till the 17th century around 1603 she died that year. Yup Queen Elizabeth the first:) it's very ironic that Henry couldn't see his own eyes that one of his children would be responsible to destroy the Spanish fleet altogether
Actually he did have a son that ruled for 4,5,6 years then died
So the country litaraly was ruled by hes 8 year old son for 6 or so years
Then he said Mary jane grey hes couson should rule after but Mary beheaded her after meet Jane tuled fir 9 days
And actually three of his children came to the throne not 1.1 was Mary 2 was goerge and three was elizabeth
I think you should react to the Historia Civilis video. "Bird mania, Strongboys and tunnel bears."
Its about how animals were percieved in Ancient Rome and Its funny and pretty touching.
Love watching your reactions to these! Oversimplified is an awesome channel and you seem really keen on English history which I love! Plus, you’re absolutely gorgeous! 🔥
Great video and reaction really enjoyed it . But when you said "She was set up .." and got so surprised i was thinking does she knows about Communist judgement system when if someone hated you just one letter full of false claim was needed and you and your family life ended there 😂.
Don’t mind the things I say lol I just naturally say what I’m thinking 😂🤣😩
@@AshleysReview nah don't worry it was fun and infographic show videos are great . I just wanted to say that a lot of people have died like flies even 30 years ago. 😃❤️ Keep up the great work
@@cezo8947 the communist judgement system? Do you know what Any of those words mean?
@@antythesis751 No i am waiting for illumination here at youtube comments
@@cezo8947 ok so communism as a concept didn't exist during the time of Henry the 8th. Furthermore I have no idea what you mean by "communist judgement system". What is a judgement system and how can one be communist?
Bible actually says if your brother dies with no children. The brother is to "go into her" and raise up a child i. His brothers name.
Glad Starz left that part out of their white princess series
You are so beutifull :) Cheers from Scandinavia.

Prince Arthur died of a sweating illness
Sort of like how trump told the doctor to say he was the healthiest man ever
Good video 👍🇬🇧
Anne Bolin really did have an affair while married to the king and I read somewhere that they did find evidence proving she might have been plotting to assassinate him but I don't know how true that is. Also Henry's daughter Mary was where we got the inspiration for Bloody Mary
Considering she burnt thousands (possibly as many as a hundred thousand) protestants at the stake during her lifetime, it might also be the inspiration for bloody mary.
but both henry viii & elizabeth did kill more people then mary but since she was catholic and the daughter of a foreigner she had to be made the villain
Anne Boleyn did not have an affair. She was framed.
Lord open the king of england eyes
the bluebeard fairytale was inspired by him
Best reaction
He didn't kill his wives himself and his wife really did talk bad about him. Not justifying him but just accuracy.
Hey fam!
Hey 🤗😍
His two daughters had quite a few people put to death as well
and the churches and monasteries where ripped down the lead roofs melted into musket balls and the bricks and motor sold to peasants Learned that from Horrible history Cash in the Abby.
Henry 8th is still respected in England. Plus he got rid of boring or nagging wives what a great bloke. 💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴

Young sister, when tyranny governs the rulership of the land, gross wickedness is the norm.
The bible calls it Babylon and it is a generational system of political, economic, legal, cultural and spiritual governance responsible for all the people slain upon the earth, Revelation 18: 24.
