Lake Ouachita State Park - 5 nights wasn't enough.

- Once our initial weekend of vacation was complete, we headed toward the middle of Arkansas, and to our destination for the next five nights, Lake Ouachita State Park. The area was amazing, however, the weather did not want to cooperate. However, even though we had rain for a couple days, the peacefulness of this park made us not want to leave.

It really was a neat park! I saw that spider crossing the road as we were driving, and had to slam on the brakes to get a better look. 😂 That is the first time I've seen a tarantula that wasn't captive.

Yeah, we’ve thought about that before…. Our channel is called Midwest Journeys, but half of our videos are in Arkansas. 🤔😂 Back when we had motorcycles, we used to come down there to ride, now we come down there to camp. I would really love to do some backpacking down there, but haven’t had a chance to yet.

We’ve done quite a bit of backpacking, although not in the last couple years. The Buffalo River is definitely where I have my sights set for that.

Very interesting but FYI, wifi in rv parks is not designed for streaming. It uses up so much bandwidth that it diminishes availability for everyone else. And of course, many more people are streaming too which just screws it up for everybody.
Sorry, I don’t think we explained well. We we use our cell service, not the park WiFi for streaming.
Been planning a summer trip through Arkansas and one of the things I've been noticing is the state parks have tons and tons of rv camp sites and a tiny handful of tent campsites. 12 tent sites for the entire park?! I'm guessing you gotta book months in advance to snag one?
Check out loop “D” in that park. I’m pretty sure that those are all non-electric sites as well. When we were there, that loop was almost empty, but it was also in September, and in the middle of the week.
I believe the 12 sites you are referring to are the walk-in tent sites. Those were on a point out in the lake, just down from where we were camped. Those stayed pretty busy, and I’m guessing they do book up pretty quick.
What time of year did you go? September or October? I'm wondering if it's still to cold in late April for Kayaks?
We were there the week of Sept 21-25. I'm really not sure how the weather would be in late April. We haven't camped down in Arkansas earlier than Memorial Day.
Check out Robber cave state park oklahoma. The hiking trails are so pretty its on out to go back place. I got lots of pictures there. We got lost on a trail by the cave. Ended up hanging out in this cool shallow stream that was carved into the rocks.
BTW I'm from sw missouri and have been camping for about 5 years. 3 of those in a rv. We mostly been to stockton with a few places sprinkled in else where. Still trying to get a trip over to mark twain hopping this will be the yr. If I can find a spot open for June.

@@Tiffany-ls7pu We really like Stockton. We used to camp around Truman a bunch, but once we went to Stockton, we found that we don't like to go back to muddy lakes like Truman. :)
My husband and I did the Caddo Bend Trail once when we used to live in Hot Springs. I wasn't used to that much hiking then and thought I was going to die! 🤣 Probably didn't help that I was carrying our then 1-year old daughter.
Oh, wow! That was a pretty long trail, if I remember right. I still can’t believe that we were there for a week, and didn’t hike any of the trails. 🤷🏻♂️ Oh well, that’s another reason to go back sometime. 😁
So, I have seen your painter's pole in a couple of videos, are you doing that for cell service? I figured that or you are a amateur radio operator.
Yes, we attach our WeBoost antenna to it to boost our cell service. The painter’s pole was much cheaper than an actual antenna mast. It’s kinda a pain, because we have to strap it to the top of the car while traveling, so we only take it when we absolutely need to. Lately, I’ve just been attaching the antenna to one of our canopy legs if we need a little boost.
Ah, so I was wrong, didn't think about the Wi-Fi boost. Like your teardrop and TV. We have a NuCamp Boondock Edge XL as well and tow it with a Subaru Crosstrek
Actually, you were correct. It is our cell booster. The brand is WeBoost, which I believe is where the confusion is. 😁
Nice looking park and video. For sure will have to put it on our list. We are looking to get a tear drop trailer. How do you like yours? Where did you purchase yours? We used too full time in a Class C and also a travel trailer but had to sell because of medical reasons. We want to get back out and are thinking that a tear drop would be good for the type of camping and traveling we want to do while we keep our apartment as a base.
We really like ours. We needed something that would fit in our garage, and we could pull behind our Subaru, and this fit the bill. We purchased ours from Missouri Teardrop Trailers: www.missouriteardroptrailers.com/
If you are around the central to western Missouri area, I would highly recommend them. We got ours early in 2019, and are usually out at least a couple weekends a month when it's warm out. We've tossed around the idea of going full time, then we would have to get something larger. But, for the time being, the teardrop works great.
@@MidwestJourneys Thanks for the info....how well does your Subaru pull the trailer......we have a Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4x4, which is a 4 cyl and I think rated to pull 2,000 lbs. One reason we’re looking for something like a small tear drop to pull. Had played with the idea of buying a camper van but can’t find one that doesn’t have a very long lead time.........like I said, we full timed and I mean full timed. Sold our house and everything and travelled down south and west for two years. We full timed in a travel trailer and then a Class C so if you ever have any questions about full timing, feel free to ask.
The Subaru does well pulling the trailer. It is also a 4 cyl, and the towing capacity on it is 2700 lbs. The last time I weighed our trailer, it came a little under 2000 lbs (fully loaded). What we have to watch is the tongue weight, and the payload capacity on the Subaru. The max tongue weight is 200 lbs, and we are usually right at that. I have to make sure that I don't put too much in the front of the trailer, so it doesn't go over that. The max payload on the car is 900 lbs, so once you add in Tammy and I, the dog, and the tongue weight, we are already around 700. So, that only leaves a couple hundred lbs of stuff that we can put in the car with us.

We are still trying to find something for Tammy to transition into, as working as a home health nurse probably won't work well while traveling. 😁

I think the trick is to go in the middle of the week. There were several empty sites through most of our stay, but as the weekend approached, it definitely started to fill up.
