Happy for you and your family. have fun!!!
You're very fortunate in that your brick wall is the perfect height so you can make a little auxiliary roof from a sheet of plywood, you can toss up on top of it to protect the smoker if you want to smoke in the rain. Just make 2 legs to support the open end, where you stand. Be sure to get a nice, heavy duty cover for the smoker, though.
@@anthonyjordan5723:
Oh, are you now ever going to have some great meals and gain some weight! 🤣
I weould suggest securing it somehow to the brick wall - it will be a prime item to get stolen. And take the flue off when you aren't using it - crooks will see it sticking up over the top of the wall and check to see what it is.
Also, get a tarp to cover it with, or get a custom cover made for it - unless you oil it almost constantly, it WILL rust!
Use the pallet wood and make a small above ground garden for Elana.
You can do a full size salmon..
As a person who has been smokin' meat for nearly 25 years, the tips I will offer are these... make what you like!! And yep... you might screw it up every now and then... but, if you enjoy the flavor, you'll enjoy the journey!
❤
100% Correct. I’ve sold 1,000’s of pounds myself here in middle Tennessee.
It can be an EXTREMELY cocky and OCD triggering in the world of smoking and barbecue.
😂😂😂 The HELL I use to catch because of the temp I run and my use of foil??? I’ve always ran a little hotter and faster because I was a one man operation feeding hundreds a day. And I’m a foil lover because I save as much drippings ( aka liquid gold) as I possibly can.
Well said
Unfortunately it will happen. Especially with a new rig. There is a big learning curve. I can speak from experience being a trained chef, and using offset smokers for decades. I've screwed things up a time or two, and it could be as simple as not paying attention to the weather (temp/humidity)!😂😂😂😂 When it changes, you need to change your cook as well!👍 As you know, it's truly an art form getting it right.
That thing looks beastly. You’ll be attracting all your neighbors once you get that bad boy fired up! 😂
The aroma from your smoker is going to be a catalyst for meeting lots of new neighbors. Have you thought of opening a "barbecue school"?
My thought exactly. People gonna be poking their heads over the fence with a puppy dog look in their eyes and saliva dripping down their chin.
Hope there are not any vegans in the neighborhood. 😂
@@user-nx8pe6pc3h Oh, come on now. They will want to be inclusive. Maybe they can slow cook some tofu. 🤣
@@DivusMagus I can picture it now. 😂
Lol, exactly what I was going to say (if in the states) but not sure it will be the case in the UK. 😅🥰
Good news, no one is walking off with your smoker. In 5 years, I see Mr H’s Texas BBQ
BIG Cardboard Boxes = A Play Fort !!!!!
Truth!!😂😂
Ditto.
FYI.... A tip for cold or cool weather smoking. Get a welders blanket and put it over the cooking chamber during cooking. It will help regulate the internal temp better.
That cardboard box will make a great play house for your daughter. The wooden pallet will make a nice work table, just sheet one side with plywood and make the 4 legs with 4X4's. Give it all a good coat of paint and It will serve many purposes out side.
El Mirage, Arizona
Picnic table, anyone?
I'd go with a couple coats of paint, and a polyurethane sealer, to protect it from the 191 days of rain, and all winter long. The advantage is that even if it gets scratched up, it can be quickly repaired with another coat of polyurethane (after sanding, of course).
if it is standard width on the pallet, there are metal legs that you just clamp there. or table trestles around 10 pound
each
The best up-cycling advice right there for that pallette! Put wheels on the legs to move it around more easily, too! Can be work bench, or a work table for your pit when you're smoking something. Enjoy!
2 tips.
1 Put a coffee can over the stove pipe so it doesn't get rain in it.
2 the hole by the stovepipe has threads in it so you can mount a temp gauge in it.
According to their website it should have been included.
I was thinking the same thing about the Temp Guage, but I wouldn't screw it in until I was done spraying oil all over just like they did.
I know it’s not homemade and not from the. South but Sweet Baby Rays Bbq sauce is one of the best tasting sauces out there
I think you should name it Benny. After all, it is a Franklin.
I was thinking a screen on top of the stove pipe, so it would catch any embers. I can see a fly-a-way ember landing on a roof and burning down the complex.
Paul is a legend. What a nice guy and he tried so hard. Plus he did a great job manuvering that lorry thru those narrow roads
Wow! The H's don't mess around!! Nothing says "I love American food" like having a smoker sent from across the pond! I feel a business coming 😃
We bloody love you crazy kids! 🥰
That smoker screams American Made. Will last a lifetime. Don't be surprised if someone offers to buy it from you.
As a Texan. Very happy to see yall embracing your inner southerner...
Enjoy the food!
No doubt! You got a REAL pit! Franklin’s the real deal. You’ll eventually be the envy of the neighborhood! Now for the wood…….
Love from TEXAS. 😁👍
I've been smoking meats for decades and I have one warning for you: You will become VERY POPULAR in your neighborhood!
Yup. Get used to telling ur friends n neighbors: "u aint gotta go home but u can't stay here".
or very hated, some people really really hate the smoke being in their face none stop.
Been using an offset for almost 40yrs. You’ll hear so many suggestions that you might become confused with all of the info. Here’s my advice 😉; learn how to build a fire and keep it burning. Don’t choke it and let it produce clean, almost clear smoke. The smoke can add perfect flavor or it can add a bitter, acrid flavor if you smolder your fire. The best way to learn is to cook on it. Be your own pit master !! Cheers! ❤ Oh,! and buy a quality cover for the pit. You don’t want it exposed to rain. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
this is the most underrated comment. literally listen to every word he said and lastly you need to monitor this very frequently. My offset produced better flavor but my pellet smoker is set it and forget it.
This man speaks BBQ wisdom!
Get a lid for that smokestack, one that allows smoke out but doesn't let rain in. I can't believe it doesn't come with one. I also didn't notice a thermostat?
Paul was very friendly. Great setup! Foosa approved ✅
I've seen grown men drool over new cars like Mr. H drooled over that smoker. The old one next to it looks like the new one had a baby. Good luck with your new toy!
You know you fell in live with BBQ when you by a multi thousand dollar piece of magnificents and have ot shipped across the pond! Thats what life is all about folks!
Wahoo how exciting, can't wait for BBQing with H vids
You need to invest in some kind of canvas roof/tent that sits considerably high over your outdoor kitchen/cooking area. So you can cook easier in the rain, but also simply so less water falls on the thing in the first place.
Also hope you invested in a bunch of high quality wireless temp probes/thermometers.
Aside from the traditional US BBQ meats.... don't hide from your Englishness. You have a MUCH better availability of high quality mutton than most of us, and can take advantage of that. Smoke some sheep!
Oh wow, smoked lamb sounds awesome.
Wiley coyote wants you to et some sheep..that sounds suspicious!😄
I don't know why that last sounds sooooo wrong!
You are absolutely correct. A whole leg of lamb with a rub and lots of rosemary and thyme. Then, at the end, a mint jelly glaze or wash caramelized on it.
Oh man, I love lamb! Add smoking to it = heaven!!❤
Absolutely beautiful toy right there.
I think "the Brit Pit" is the name for her
Please invite Paul to your first BBQ with the new smoker!
Paul if you are reading my friend....
Yeah since you didn't give him a tip, he went beyond just dropping it at the front door
Oh the money I would pay to sit on your front lawn with some sweet tea and watch the neighbors sniff the air trying to figure out where that beautiful smell is coming from. Here in small town America when you walk outside and smell that smell someone will definitely say "whelp someone is havin' BBQ".
They need to invite "Paul from Palletways" and his family over for the good stuff, and more than once.
Paul deserves a raise.
In the south we'd say, "Bless his heart" but not in a negative way! That delivery guy was way cool! ❤
Because as we know in the South, 'Bless your/his/her heart" has about 800 meanings depending on the context and inflection. I was thinking the same thing as I watched Paul unload the thing. and try to maneuver it in through the gate. LOL
@@swysocki3920 😄👍🏼
Mr.H is getting ready to have the best smelling back yard in his neighborhood. Use the wooden pallet to build an overhead cover for your smoker so that it won't matter if it is raining.
Just be careful, some pallets have insecticides or other chemicals on them. There should be a stamp in them with a code. You can look it up and see if it's safe.
A Franklin Pit? You guys went 100% legit!
If you want to keep it simple, and don't mind it being a bit Australian, the name "Barbie" works. So, "Put another shrimp on the ....."
That's a $5,100.00 pit. Nice rig.
That is not a simple pit! It's a Beast & needs a beasty masculine name. Barbie? Really? That's a fire breathing dragon, NOT a doll. LOL!!!!
Dragon theme..Maybe call it Smaug from the Hobbit ?
As someone who delivers products off a truck, shout out to Paul and that power jack work. Also jealous of that cargo bay and jack. WAY nicer than what I work with.
Pork Belly : score the fat side to 1 cm squares at a depth of about 3-4 mm, rub in a good rub mix, smoke about 220 for a few hours fat side down. Pretty simple
pro tip : flip it over once internal hits about 140-150
Invite Paul to your first cookout! He has earned that dinner!
Been smoking for over 20 years and that is a beautiful smoker🥰🥰🥰
As a Mississippi native who’s taking my first trip to the UK next month…I love this so much.
You are definitely there for the brisket! 😆👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
Went to TEXAS and ordered a Rolls Royce!
I remember playing in a refrigerator box as a child. Your little girl will LOVE playing with that box!
I know the brand of the smoker is Franklin, but in the States, we had a comedy team of Franken and Davis. My vote for the name of your new smoker is Davis.
If my memory is correct, the two (2) of you aren't the biggest fans of turkey, but if you can get a decent-sized turkey, smoke it, and you will be in love with the bird from that day forward.
Congratulations! I have never actually done any smoking myself. But as an almost 70 yr old that has lived most of my life in Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri I have definitely enjoyed eating plenty of smoked meats/BBQ! To me, there is just something very primally satisfying about the aroma and flavor of smoked meat! Enjoy the Adventure!
Mr.& Mrs.H, when you start smoking, expect your neighbors to look out the windows and knock on your door! It looks fantabulous! Make Texas Barbecue proud Mr.&. Mrs. H. Give a hug to baby girl for me, love you guys!❤
Now that’s a authentic American offset smoker ! , from across the pond I’m proud of you !
As someone that became a chef because of growing up watching my parents cook, I truly believe that Elana will be not only known as Chef Elana, but she will also have a great understanding of how to make delicious BBQ. Plus, the smoker is going to be hers one day.
Your wife’s enthusiasm is great!
Salmon is another great option for the.smoker, enjoy!
Tried to buy a Traeger from a family friend who wouldn't let me, and instead just gave it to me. Let's just say, every time I fire it up, the neighbors are looking to see what's going on haha. Beautiful thing about BBQ is you usually make too much for your family and get to share it with them. When they tried my ribs the last time, they told me it's the best if not one of the best ribs they have had in their lives. It's probably my 15-20th rack I've done as it's probably the easiest and most forgivable cut of meat you can do on there. I also recently did some New York strips in there for about 45 minutes, flipping the meat half way through, then reverse seering on a pan. Absolute perfection on the cook and it was honestly the best steak i've ever had that wasnt at a restaurant. And thats a freakin Walmart NY Strip lol. Cant wait to keep up with your guys progress! I mean I'm obsessed with mine now lmao.
Nice of them to deliver it with an untreated post oak pallet. You can in fact cut that down and use it for firewood. It's absolutely the right kind of wood. Also, your daughter is adorable.
You could always watch Aaron’s Masterclass on BBQ
I had to chuckle that you are drinking your quintessential British cup of tea while using your new American smoker. Love it.
Start simple and smoke some chicken thighs. It's hard to mess up but you easilybuild confidence. Move on to pork loin, pork butt or shoulder and then ribs. Once comfortable with chicken and pork, then move on to beef brisket. Starting off simple helps you learn what your smoker does. What spot runs hot, what spot is cooler. How much wood to add to get to a certain temperature. How to drop the temperature. Do I spray down or baste, or should I wrap it with a liquid when it reaches a certain temperature.
Your neighbors are going to complain every weekend. You better smoke enough meat for neighbor hood
Lol. 💯 Agree!
Yes... neighbor complaints will not end with the first five or ten times. The solution is always "Make them join in." Pass out notices that you're smoking this weekend, and invite them to bring sausages, chicken, turkey, hams, pork ribs, etc. "Their enemy is THEM-!"
@@bitfenix90 They owe "Paul from Palletways" some BBQ for his nice effort in getting the Smoker comfortably situated!!
Friendly tip. White smoke bad blue smoke good
@@balancedactguy I'm not so sure... he should have said, "Where do you plan on putting this smoker?" and THEN dumped the palette near but not ON the final resting place. Forcing them to nearly smash thru glass - or placing any palette with a palette's distance of glass is a terrible act by an inexperienced shipper.
You have no idea what you are about to do to your neighbors sense of smell. Kudos to you all and welcome to the club!
Yup, I was cooking during the winter and had my peace. Now that it's gettin warmer I gotta share with the neighbors! lol nah but for real, I love sharing with them with how appreciative they are about it.
She's a beauty. I can't wait till y'all start smoking some meat. I think I saw a couple of tears from Mr. H when that delivery truck pulled in, LoL.
I say about 1, 000 new subscribers from Bristol in a couple of weeks. Word is going to get around fast.
Your neighbors with binoculars:
Yes, I think an American family just moved in from Texas and they brought their barbecue thing with them. 😂
Holy crap! I just looked up the price of that metal beast and man-oh-man! You guys went all in! When I had a house we built a smoker out of a surplus metal legal shelf and a Webber kettle. One thing's for sure, your neighbors will be drooling when they smell that thing working!
Hopefully it came with the thermometer. You will definitely need that for sure. Also when lightening the chimney coal starter, put paper or whatever you're going to start it with, then light that and put the chimney on top of the lit paper. It's better and safer than trying to hold the chimney by hand. Once the coals get red hot then dump into fire box.
Love it. You actually had a great smoker shipped over the pond to you! You get a lot of fun out of it. Your neighbors are going to your best friends now!! Have fun.
That is an amazing smoker!!!! Just remember the first time you tried riding a bicycle you didn't do it perfectly. It took time and several falls. Smoking meats is the same. It will take time and you will make some mistakes but if you learn from them you will be on your way to being a good smoker. I've been watching and loving your videos since your daughter was just a tiny little infant. Best wishes to you and your family. Looking forward to seeing what you cook on the smoker.
We didn't see all of your interaction w/Paul, but we hope you gave him a big Tip! It's an 'American' thing, we realize, but after handling your delivery so cautiously, he deserved it! Pay from an employer is good, but to show your appreciation monetarily really expresses your appreciation like no other action.
I thought the same thing, I would have at LEAST a $20 ready.
I agree, no doors were smashed, no people or cats were crushed ! The house didn't end up with a hole in it, the smoker didn't flip over on its side.
Mr. H looks like a proud papa with his new toy. Nice job. Now as Malcolm Reed would say "let's get to cooking".
It's the HMS Franklin.
What woods do you have around you to use. Talk to people in your area that cut trees/limbs (thing power company, or tree trimming) and see what they cut the most. Some any tree that fruits or nuts can be used. and you will need to experiment with them and with different meats. I use a combo of hickory, Apple and red oak for beef and pork but use a combo of pecan, cherry and red oak for chicken and turkey.
I think they said they have all the ones you listed, minus pecan, but they have mesquite!
As a born and raised Texan who grew up 2 miles from Buc-Ees #1 I am jealous of that smoker!
How exciting! I can’t wait to see.
I'm not sure if you've tried this, but try smoking sweet corn on the cob for about an hour at 2:40 to 250. Spectacular
I recently moved to Ohio, 1 week into the new home I'd set up my smoker. Got a huge Boston butt and some chicken breast... filled my cooler with ice and beer/soda... then we printed about 10 flyers and posted then on our neighbors doors. Invited them for BBQ pulled pork sandwiches and BBQ chicken, beer and soda, baked beans and smoked Mac n Gouda Cheese... we had about 30 people with their kids included. Huge success, new friends! You'll never fail to make friends when ya have a smoker! Try Italian Sausage bangers with Mixed peppers and onions on a hoagie roll... awesome smoked. I recently did stuffed peppers on the smoker too. ENJOY it!! 😊
we love smoked chorizo meatloaf in a cast iron loaf pan
Oh my goodness y'all aren't playing around! Love it!
How about the "BIG TIN LIZZIE !! That thing is huge! This is going to be a fun journey to watch!! LOL
Because you do have a bit of a lovely patio . . I would suggest you look into a cover to put over your patio stone and then roll the smoker onto it. They can usually be soaped up and hosed off - and will really help save your patio!! They do get messy!!
Y’all are gonna be the envy of all your neighbors! Even if they don’t want to, and try to resist it, it will be so intoxicating as to be beyond their control! 😂
Literally the Friends episode, "pivot! pivot! pivot!" Love the Smoker, can't wait to see it in action!
Can’t wait to see you make your first brisket, pork butt and ribs! Please invite some neighbors and friends over for your first cook!
I love smoking meats. My dad taught me to do it when I was little and it's something I really enjoy the process of. It's definitely a labor of love. Seeing you enjoy setting it up and taking such pride in it is giving me life. Your neighbors are going to be lining up at your gate when they get a whiff of that pork smoking!!
Mrs.H looked a bit stressed so I'm commenting to help the Algos of youtube. Congratulations to YOU on the smoker! You will love it.
Now THAT is a BBQ Pit.
I have been outdoor cookin' and smoking for decades. Having lived in England back in the '90s and worked with the grills available there, you have now purchased a true Texas smoker, that will bring you many years of deliciousness. Enjoy this new cooking experience.
Found you through Ken Rollins.
FYI buy a cover for the smoker; it'll help keep it clean. Or at least put a can over the smokestack to keep the rain out.
Enjoy the smoke.
We are loving this new experience, it’s completely different to bbq as we know it (you’d know that from being here too).
We have the Franklin cover for it too.
Hope you enjoy the channel.
Excellent choice, now time to play and learn. Each smoker has a life and personality, take time to learn it and just try everything, you will make mistakes, but use them as a learning curve. Have a great time using it!
4:18- Like a glove! seriously though if it had been one size bigger that thing would have had to be craned from the street into the yard haha. Also my vote fort a name is " The Beast" lol, because that is a beastly looking smoker. Congrats on upgrading your smoker, it was crazy seeing your old one next to the new one haha. Can''t wait to follow your bbq journey, BBQ is my big thing too so I'm excited.
This is EXCITING! 🎉
Was genuinely all smiles watching this. So excited for you. I know you'll enjoy her!
"Old Ben" Franklin BBQ!
BBQ's name should be "Spitfire" in honor of the British WW2 Fighters with the Barbecue Double Entendre as a bonus. You can do some American Bacon with that Pork Belly too ✌❤
I love how the UK has become obsessed with American cooking recently. American barbecue is finally a recognized food genre.
Once you start using your smoker on a regular basis and word gets around with your neighbors, EVERYONE will be camping outside your door!!! Smoker looks great!!! Cheers from Missouri ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Take your time watch your temps and enjoy. Smoke what ya like and dont be afraid to try new things!!!
You MUST smoke some brisket as well!! BTW..Try to get a COVER for that Smoker. Regardless of the Oil based Seasoning Technique...it is still a good idea to protect this Bad Boy from the elements as best you can!! Good Luck and Bon Appetit! Also..don't be a afraid to get Olivia on board with this. None of her friends will get to learn the craft of smoking like she will!👍😊
Greeting from brothers and sisters from across the pond ! You can cook what ever you little hearts desired ! Possibilities are ENDLESS ! Have fun .
Paul needed a tip, or an invite back for smoked goodies, for his efforts and professionalism.
What a great guy.
A fun video!
You know you’ll have to invite the whole neighborhood when you fire that baby up, right?! The aroma will be mouth-watering!!! 🤤 Plus I think you’re a little excited!!! Good to cook a brisket for a crowd!!! 😂 Enjoy! ❤❤❤❤
If you really want heat, don't put logs on the fire -- put kindling. Logs take a long time to burn. Good for cooking. But if you want high temperatures, a quick burn is what you want. As for pork bellies, you've got the curing salt, so you should make some bacon.
Lifelong Texan and cook here: Main tip is to find a good, fairly inexpensive, fairly local source of wood. An almost unending stack of good, dry and aged wood is way more important in the journey to becoming a pit master than any fancy expensive Wagu brisket, or your trimming technique, or your rub, or anything.
Mastering the firebox is ultimately all that matters. And the only way you get there is by burning wood. The more affordable you can make firing up the smoker, the better you’ll get. Learning how to smoke clean and wide open, but under complete control of your temperature is what makes great smoked meat, not your ingredients.
Always remember, this form of cooking was originally developed by the early settlers of Texas to make a cheap cut of beef, goat, pig, whatever, be worth eating…it wasn’t meant to be an art, even though it certainly has become one.
As someone who hasn't been fortunate enough to own a smoker, I didn't know you had to season it. But it makes sense, after seeing it being bare metal when it's new.
It's basically just like cast iron cookware.
If your cast iron is too sticky after the seasoning process, they say that you used too much oil, and/or didn't wipe enough of the excess oil off.
It will gradually get darker the more it's seasoned, and the more you cook with it.
Can't wait to hear what the neighbors reactions are!
I LOVE how your wife is leading you through gettig it off the cart. She was talking you through it like you were about to give your first Birth.❤❤😂😂 Welcome to the BBQ Family. ❤❤❤
your neighbors are going to love you. watch how popular you become now. also the comments below are helpful. can over the stack and a temp gauge in the threaded hole.
Congratulations on your smoker! It looks fantastic and I'm sure you will be making completion BBQ.
Holy Heck Mr. and Mrs. and Baby H! In the US these retail for $5,155 so that puts you in the uber serious, professional class of smokers with that lofty investment.
Not to mention the cost of shipping! That was probably almost as much as the cost of the pit!
Ur neighbors are going to hate and love you at the same time lol
Oh yeah... Paul needs a raise. He did everything right!
It was my pleasure to help you guys get this. I’m so excited to see all the great things u will make!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ I love you guys!!!!!!!
Oh shoot you got a Franklin very few people in America even have that grill that's top of the Line !!!!!!💯🔥
It’s a big outlay - but we look at it as a lifelong investment ! Somthing we can look after and hand down to Elana ❣️
@@Mrhandfriends That is 💯% true well if you ever need any tips I know my way around some BBQ and with simple instructions 🔥
Beautiful smoker. I'm jealous. Couple levels above my own for sure.
🤟
It's wild that I can step outside and literally see smoker after smoker in almost every yard but in other parts of the world, this is not the norm. I love Texas.
My first smoker was like the one you started with. It worked, sort of, but had a lot of shortcomings. I went a different way, but you will not believe the difference the proper tools make. If you like BBQ, you now have the tools to make it at home, and do a fantastic job. Good luck and enjoy your pit!
I hope you invited Paul over for bbq lol.
I am thoroughly impressed! Mr. H, the Terry Black of Bristol.
