The beats were confusing to me, but now as a drummer as well as a percussionist eight years later, I'm glad I was able to literally re-discover this video again. I find it amazing how Animusic put this whole thing together without it sounding like actual drummers. Its like an actual machine that can out-drum humans, if you know what I mean.

I still remember seeing the ad for it on tv when we were living in my grandma's basement and i was infatuated, as soon as we had the money, my mother got it for me and we watched it quite alot, im unsure how old i was but it was after i started violin but before we moved into our current house so my guess is around 5 or 6 but that was the day i gained consciousness and look at me now! 21, a performer and composer, and designing a particle system animation to go with live performers... Wow... How things grow and change huh

Classic steampunk fans are happy because the gears actually look like they _do_ something, as opposed to most superficial "steampunk" stuff nowadays which just has gears glued on randomly.
i think one of the best and most underrated things about this one is the way the stereo panning follows the image--where the sounds come from correspond with the location of their sources, even as the camera moves around
Just now after all this years I realize that the two small gears on top of the two bigger ones that operate the kettledrums at 2:10 are not connected to anything.
One thing I like about Animusic is how there are lil spots on the drums where they get hit, adding to the lore of the possibility that these things happened more than once
Don't rightly know how drummers feel about this one, but as an Earth Scientist, I really enjoy the "nature" sounds- you know rain, thunder, lightning, heartbeat, terror, running, walking, daydreaming......
I cannot hold that sentiment. Gyro drums has more personality, more variation, more memorable beats, and the aesthetic of a sphere of drums is just nicer on the eyes than an industrial machine

Yeah, but on the DVDs, you get the commentary track. And while I'm not big on audio commentary, I have to say listening to it on Vol. 1 and 2, it really enhanced my experience. They tell you all the little details and such that went into each video and it really makes you appreciate the videos even more. Again, not for everybody, but in this case, I feel like the DVDs are worth the commentary alone.
Yes. Fair use is a legal defense. You can't just say something is fair use and expect that it is sufficient. Also, uploading the entire video to a public video-sharing website is not fair use. Fair use would be an unlisted, clipped video that shows the minimum required to make the point (or a screenshot used in a paper, etc).
