Even after all these years of watching you, I still wish you had more followers . You have that rare thing : a musician who has found their own sound , with or without a pedal!
It's fair to say that you match the aesthetics/heart of every pedal perfectly in your videos. Seamlessly beautiful. If I wouldn't own the Microcosm already I would buy it just because of this video.
I just wanted to say that, as a microcosm owner myself, I loved listening to this while I was writing a text. I was writing about the oceans and nature preservation and this was a perfect match. Thank you!
Ambient music is only ever a distortion pedal way from being exciting. But no, really, ambient textures like this pedal creates are always best as part of a whole. These New Age-sounding demos are just the clearest way to show off what they do, the real value is adding these tones as additional layers in songs. Or, again, making experimental shoegaze by running them through fucktons of fuzz, a la Lovesliescrushing.
Thanks for sharing. I just found your channel and like the demo of this pedal. It brings out the sound of your ambient guitar really well. Of course, it really soars because of the input you gave it.
Really would like one of these, having trouble timing cash availability with a purchase, I am a patient man however and will succeed in acquiring one of thes magical sound boxes. Thanks for the review/overview of this fantastic pedal. I almost hate to call it a "pedal" as it is so versatile and deep, I can't wait to put one on my setup.
Finally a thorough review with all the info AND beautiful playing! Slowly nudging me over the price-threshold… One question: I think the ARP mode on this is amazing and I agree that the bit crushed ones add a great texture. I wonder though if there are multiple variations of the arpeggiated sequences? Are they always the same pattern or are they completely random?
I read a story somewhere, maybe it was Joel Korte himself, saying that he is a good friend with Jason Campbell and that one day they were both talking about this pedal idea and that both ideas sounded very similar, we know them now as Microcosm and Blooper, so they decided to never talk about it and see how both final products gonna be and seems like they are not so similar after all, what do you think?
I do remember hearing that, I think knobs said that somewhere. But in the end, I think they're very different. On paper, they're both loopers with glitchy pitch effects, but Blooper is way more focused on the loop and then mangling that loop, and Microcosm is really about the effects to me, and. then the looper and reverb build on top of that
I guess I would run this after the infinite jets. I’m thinking Enzo->infinite jets->microcosm. I need a small pedal board to go before my conventional effects board. I can’t fit my Enzo and infinite jets on my main board and this looks about the size of the jets, which is big. I guess I need a separate board for these unique effects that like to be first in the chain. I have so many pedals I feel like I need a separate board for each effect
Hi I could not give this a thumbs up today. It's 11/11 and you have 111 likes. Your last post was 11 hours ago. Hope you understand. Great video's thanks so much!!
I prefer to only do stereo demos if the stereo is a key part of the pedal, for a few reasons. Most people only play in mono, so it gives them an idea as well, and I'm also not set up to record two amps at once which means my stereo demos are direct with an amp sim
I'd say the similarities stop at the very basic description (reverb with pitch modes, and pitch pedal with reverb). This is much more focused on the glitch and granular effects, while the NightSky is a reverb first and has those extra pitch controls in a small way
Ohh man.. I came here to see how to use the microcosm. Now im crying because my girlfried doenst see any chance in our relationship. Your sound your guitarplaying is very inspirational and beautiful. Thanks man. You gave me nice flashbacks to the relationship. I still love here so much😢❤
would it be difficult to live loop with this? i wanted to pair it with my rc10r. & can i record this straight into my DAW? thank you sm if anyone helps me out
The looper is simple to use, and pretty easy to play with the effects. It should work nicely in a rig like that, but I’m not too familiar with the RC20R
Mood is wayyyy better IMO. I’m about to get rid of my Microcosm, it never finds itself in my music. Mood finds its way, in so many unique ways. It also just has a better core sound, IMO. Mood is a must have.
Sounds amazing! Is there any reason to have both this and an Infinite Jets? Other than using both at the same time... well I guess I answered my own question. Both it is!
I have an infinite jets and I love it. I really want this one. I can’t wait to hear how they sound together. The only drawback is the size of the pedals.
It sounds great! Make sure you update to the newer firmware (if you buy one now it should ship with that) because that lets it handle those hotter signals a bit better
If you turn down Activity and Repeats, you’ll hear less of the current effect. The way I did it in the clip in this demo was set the effect to pattern delay, set the time really fast, and then you have basically just the reverb, filter, and modulation
@@collectoremitter Thanks for your answer ! I asked Hologram too and there's an easier way finally : long press on Phrase looper then select the Looper Only mode. In this mode we can use reverb, modulation and filter on their own.
I think there was a conscious decision to leave the guitar’s signal mostly clean going into the microcosm. Easier to hear the nuances of the algorithms.
unfortunately, for now it has a lot of quirks. mentioned them on reverb. the main one: you cannot switch an engine while your saved loop is playing, switching stops it. the latest I found: when you made a loop and switching the mode to pre-fx (so your record becomes a foundation for new layer of effect), you cannot record it via overdub for some reason. it would be huge feature fo live performances. it's nice, but really waiting for new firmwares. when you realize it could be twice better having some little tweaks, it's a bummer.
At least using the V2 firmware I can definitely change effects while a loop plays. The only thing which STOPS the loop is if I go into the user preset section.
@@Eliguitar1 It's 1.1 :) And yeah, according to rumors 1.0 was awful at tracking. But when you cannot switch an engine while having a loop you saved - it's is a problem, no actual reason for such a limiting behavior. And there's a lot more. Hope Hologram will take care of their product.
It's strange, on my unit the effects level and overall output of the Microscosm is quite low. Despite having mix at least at 80, filter open, activity up to 100 %. Of course on instrument level with guitar. Did a firmware upgrade, not really changing much. Do you have a booster after the Microcosm?
Great processor. Plus it doubles as a chest prop if you’re dressing up as a snow trooper.
Even after all these years of watching you, I still wish you had more followers . You have that rare thing : a musician who has found their own sound , with or without a pedal!
Thanks so much, that really means a lot. I’m still shocked I’ve grown this big! I feel pretty lucky to be able to share all these pedals with you all
Dude your vids help me get through my cardio at the gym. You don't help my wallet lol but you inspire me to create.
It's fair to say that you match the aesthetics/heart of every pedal perfectly in your videos. Seamlessly beautiful. If I wouldn't own the Microcosm already I would buy it just because of this video.
Thanks so much! I spend a lot of time trying to learn the pedals and not just force my sound onto them. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@collectoremitter You can definitely hear that!
Hello. I'm on the fence about buying one of these. Would you say it's worth the price tag? Thanks
Million thanks for this wonderful review. It truly is the best demonstration of this pedal I have seen...and I think I have seen them all !
At last a real demo ! Thanks man !
FINALLY, Collector//Emitter dropping his debut album!
Haha, pretty much!
You are without a doubt, one of the most unique guitar players I've heard in a long time.
I just wanted to say that, as a microcosm owner myself, I loved listening to this while I was writing a text. I was writing about the oceans and nature preservation and this was a perfect match. Thank you!
Interrupt mode is basically Bon Iver in a box. Love this
Interrupt sounds interesting. The other settings seem to produce the sort of music you get to hear when the bank puts you on hold.

it's the most beautiful pedal test I've ever heard.
Been waiting for this video from you...well done!
One of the best demos of this unit so far
Thanks, I really appreciate it!
I’ve been wanting this one for awhile. Definitely a must have once I can afford it

Thanks for what is, so far, the best deep dive I've seen on this pedal. My order for September is in.
Really well done vid and playing, I bought one because of your work here. Thx
Amazing! I already bought a Mood largely thanks to your demo, now the itch for one of these is setting in... Please keep the inspiration coming!
Waiting for next govt stimulus to buy this one 🤣
Haa with Moscow Mitch you’l be waiting a while 😩
I waiting for the same
I am being informed you can opt for guitar effects if you don’t want the standard stimulus package.
Done
@@riananthony haha nice one
Need a mood vs particle 2 vs microcosm.
I want all three 😭😭😭
Particle 2 barely holds a candle to microcosm. Mood is pretty different, wouldn’t think of it as a contender for the same place

WOW.
This is incredibly nice. Well done! I find the Microcosm to be a bit obtuse on guitar but I think I have found some good starting points here.
It can be a little tricky to dial in some of the modes, and it's a lot to learn them all. Glad this was helpful!
Can someone please share the chords at 18:56?
Great ! Would it be interesting and cool to use with electric violin ?
Absolutely! That would be very cool
Yvette young did it not long ago , guitar + electric violin
Is this in any way comparable to the nightsky? They both sound superb
They both are amazing in their own way, limitless possibilities!

Has anyone done a review of this thing with a distorted guitar yet? Or, has anyone tried using it in a metal track?

how do I connect an apollo twin x to the Microcosm pedal in order to get sound ?

hi! wanted to ask how heavy the package was because I plan on ordering one as well but I dont know if itll meet the weight requirement for my shipping
Hello, do you think if you had a microcosm you don't need a SLO cause u can make the same ambiant reverb sound ? greetigs from France
Microcosm does have reverb which is very nice but very simple. Having a separate reverb will also be nicer

Sounds amazing! Is there any reason to have both this and an Infinite Jets? Other than using both at the same time... well I guess I answered my own question. Both it is!
I’ve honestly never played an Infinite Jets. I do think there’s a lot of crossover though, so maybe Microcosm is the way to go
@@collectoremitter Thanks for the reply! Yes I think you're right about the crossover and also about getting Microcosm first and maybe Jets later.

I think this would sound better on synths than guitar
or at least, make the guitar less twangy sounding.

Yes
Does somebody know any VSTs which do the same?
Wow, so this is literally just the pedal? No other effects?
Yes, it’s a demo of what the pedal can do

Is this a mono pedal? Except perhaps the Mosaic mode, it's more of a gimmick, not very musical. I would recommend HEDRA and ENZO instead.
It's stereo in/stereo out. I was just using it in mono
Never review a stereo pedal in mono.

That’s because it’s recorded in mono
