Travis Barker is one of the most influential and style defining drummers of the last decades. His playing with Blink-182 shaped the soundtrack of a whole generation and became a trademark for their sound. The energetic and very visual style paired with his highly recognizable setup with very low toms and high cymbals make him stand out immediately.
Here is how we turned a Sonor Prolite Kit into our version of Travis Barker's Setup. The songs featured in this video are "All The Small Things" and "First Date".

How did you like this recreation of Travis Barker's drum sound and which drum sound should we recreate next?
Decent. Great job guys.
Thanks Michael
Please do Where is My Mind by Pixies 🙏🏻
AVH!
Or how about Neil Peart’s Moving Pictures sound?
How to sound like Travis Barker: Don't wear a shirt.
🤔🤟
Nahh i'm pretty sure that's how to look like travis barker
😉
@@ReignJeffersonCTria bruv. it’s a joke
@@brendan_dc I just said it bro why the fuss?
Most important part is playing topless so the sound waves bounce off your skin and don't get absorbed by your clothing giving that crisp snapping sound
💯😂 yes totally agree - the only thing what’s missing are the tattoos since the skin bounces the sound differently then
@@ArtOfDrumming Please don't ruin yourself with tatts.
😁
Well recreating the sound including shirtless drumming, what a totality 😁
That’s what we’re aiming for 😉
This is one of the first "sound like Travis" videos I've seen that is accurate. I'd recommend having just a wee bit more ring in that snare drum, but a A+ work.
Thanks 🙏
@@ArtOfDrumming He used an OCDP vented snare.
@@af7119 Travis is with DW now
@@M4RCM0NT31R0 Does he even play anymore? I didn't think Blink 182 was even a band anymore.
@@af7119 Yes, he's still playing in blink. They've release 2 albums the past 6 years.
I love this videos, i would like to see one about Abe Cunningham.
Ah, very cool suggestion
That would be awesome!
A 21" or 23" Ride and Travis' magic combination of a 18" A-Custom Crash as well as a 18" A-Custom Projection Crash would have been the cherry on top. However, awesome job guys!!!
Thanks 🙏 Tillmann
Just compared this to the original, thats really accurate, the original drums feel more used but this is as close as it gets 👏
Awesome job guys. This brings back so many memories of my early years!! So wanted an OCDP kit
That snare is just lovely
I bought the (non brilliant) 21" Zildjian sweet ride back in like 2004, 100% because of travis barker. still have it on my kit to this day, but i pretty much just use it as a crash. I always tell people it's the best crash i've ever played. i've gotten compliments from not only other drummer but also other guitar players etc. it blends sooo well with the rest of the kit and other instruments. it's very washy and has great dynamics. you can real wail on it or just tap on it and anything in between. thank you travis for making me get my favorite cymbal.
Thanks Jeff for sharing this
Excellent drumming as always!
You know when something is iconic when, as a guitarist, you are scrolling though your suggested videos and you see this video start playing in silence..... and you stop and say, "Hey that's the intro to First Date!"
Nailed it once again. I love this series!
Thanks so much Cameron!
Awesome job guys!
Excelent channel, congrats 👏 regards from Colombia
Nice video
Travis Barker really has a unique style and sound
Hello NW thanks for your feedback and totally agree: Travis Barker’s Style is absolutely unique
This is absolutely fantastic. Love the sound you were able to create with this setup.
Hey Tom, thanks 🙏 for your feedback!
thank you for including your mic choices too!
Hey Topher, sure! Hope that was both entertaining and informative for you
I know nothing about drums, but you did an excellent job recreating his drum sound! 10/10
Thanks Nick!
Really perfection of the sound 😁 and how the character of cymbals were make it really grunge 🔥
Thanks 🙏 😀
Very good! I love his simplicity and energy. He just pulls it all off perfectly.
I’d love to see the sound for the late Pat Torpey of Mr. Big please.❤️
Thanks and totally agree - it sounds simple but always with the mindset to push the music. Great suggestion - thanks!
Travis Barker always used and acctually made It famous, the best crashride ever, the A custom 21 inches sweetride!
I’d love to see one of these on danny carey!
Yeah - will do.
yes please !
🤟🤞🏻
Awesome groove and skills! I leave you my Like!!!
🙏
Damn that snare *chefs kiss*
I believe that sonor drums have the most balanced, powerful and refined sound there is
🙏👍🏻
Thats dedication
The quality of this is incredible
Thank You 😀
Great video and the Drummer does a great job!
Thank you!
Great job. I’m a Travis barker fanatic. His drumming influenced me to the point where all the local bands in the area wanted me to play drums for them. I just expected this to be another half ass attempt at imitating his sound, but you absolutely nailed it.
Thanks 🙏 Justin awsome player and performance guy!
Do Sean Kinney from Alice In Chains, also the two tough ones would be Danny Carey and Neil Peart
Good choices 👍
Really great video!
Thanks so much Scott!
After I came I really appreciated your drumming.
Thanks 🙏 DocSaucy!
Очень круто! Спасибо вам!
You should do one on the whole pop punk sound also great video
Definitely best kind of videos
Thanks 🙏 for your feedback
Awesome!
travis is very influential in the circles i used to play in. i know at least three drummers obsessed with travis barker, right until this very day. they imitated his setup in pretty much the same way you see in this video. i was more into tom delonge. i still dream of that guitar he played back then. i used to get home from school and play guitar along to "enema of the state". with that said, i think this recreation is quite accurate! you can argue about all the small things as usual, but i'm feelin' this. fate didn't fall short this time.
Hello Diego, thanks for your feedback and for sharing your story!
Let's all help make this amazing channel explode!
Tava esperando por esse! 🥁🤟
Don’t know what you are talking about but thanks anyway ;-)
@@ArtOfDrumming hahahahah
I was waiting for this recreating!
Congrats from Brazil 🇧🇷🥁
Love your channel! ❤️👊
Thanks so much Gustavo ☺️ many greetings to brazil 🇧🇷
I was waiting for that 21" Sweet Ride
😀
freaking awesome dude. recreate joey jordison's drum kit. greets from brazil.
Was kinda looking for a Side Snare, as is seen so often on his kit (more of his later years though, so i understand, would've been interesting to hear and see tho :) )
Can we get a studio tour? Im fascinated at the sheer amount of gear in this video 📷
Hello Andrew! Good Idea let’s do that sometime in the future. What exactly are you interested in?
I agree! They look like they have tons of gear
@@ArtOfDrumming maybe it could be a multi part series where you take us through, sticks, heads, kits, and other individual parts like snares, cymbals, mics, etc...
Yeah - great idea!
Awesome.
that was a dope video
Thanks 🙏 Antonio Ramirez!
great job!
Thanks Matt
Amazing!
Thanks 🙏
This is great
Jimmy Chamberlain of The smashing pumpkins would be a good one to do!
Oh yes 👍🏻
you should have added some ink to the drummer for increased authenticity ;-)
We will keep that for our part 2 Video 😉
please do part 2. His drum sound is a lot different now, take "forget me too" by machine gun kelly for an instance. thanks for the video, great as always
Thanks Elsa Ludwig for your feedback ans Part 2 is definitely on our list 👍🏻
You should do the agile beast himself, Matt helders
Yeaaahboyy, Travis mtfk Barker the Legend!
🤟
Nice! I’m always liked how Travis tuned his snare which is a bit of a contrast to what you’d normally expect from a rock snare.
Do Tré Cool next. Just to get Pascal to spike his hair and dye it bright green. 😛
Thanks 🙏 for your feedback and we will definitely talk to pascal doing this ;-)
With every sound recreation video, you guys should add the drums only like you did in a separate video with "in the air tonight. " Anyways, great content as always. Cheers
Hello vaughan, thanks for your feedback! By august we start releasing 2 videos instead 1 per week. We will then also release a playthrough video and gear reviews from every upcoming and past recreating videos
Nailed it 👍
🙏 GeckoBird!
Superb work once again guys.
Love to hear/see in no particular order:
Rage Against the Machine (Killing in the Name)
Anderson Paak (Tints or Jet Black or JEWELZ or Am I Wrong or Come Down)
Tool (Stinkfist)
Queens of the Stone Age (No One Knows)
Justin Timberlake (Like I Love You)
James Brown (Super Bad or Get Up I Fell Like Being a Sex Machine)
Red Hot Chilli Peppers (any song)
Arctic Monkeys (R U Mine?)
Jay-Z (Empire State of Mind or Show Me What You Got)
Muse (Uprising)
Vampire Weekend (A-Punk)
Foo Fighters (My Hero)
The Wombats (Let's Dance to Joy Division or Tokyo)
Herbie Hancock (Chameleon)
Madonna (Like a Prayer)
Tears for Fears (Everybody Wants to Rule the World)
Simple Minds (Don't You)
Stevie Wonder (I Wish or Superstition or Master Blaster)
The Police (Message in a Bottle or Roxanne or Every Little Thing She Does is Magic)
I need to stop, this could go on for days.
I've never really seen anyone actually do a great job at recreating Travis's sound. Many can play his beats properly, but no one plays with his insane technique or intensity so it never really sounds right. For a small guy he's one of, if not the hardest hitting drummer in punk.
Not even Travis could recreate it for One More Time lol
The last time we truly heard Travis’ iconic drum sound was in Neighborhoods
He plays a 3mm bell brass snare and a 22x20 bass drum with a port hole dead center. Rest is on point.
Would love to buy some samples from this session too to use for layering in a mix lol. These sound great!
Hey, we are really thinking about that since we got quite some interest in that whole thing. Let’s see what the future brings 😉 - meanwhile please don’t forget to subscribe and also check out ArtOfDrumming.com
@@ArtOfDrumming 🤩 That would be so sweet!
👍🏻💯
"A Custom" all the way! Great choice ;)
Thanks Scott 🤟
Very Cool! though you can't recreate Travis' sound without the A Zildjian Sweet Ride, that is his sound. 😅
🤔👍🏻
Nice! Gavin Harrison - Anesthetize next?
Gavin is so definitely on our list!
Like These new video elements 🔥
Thanks Finn!
Good stuff
Thanks Reign!
Perfect 👌
🙏
Jimmy The Rev Sullivan next please
Thanks, great suggestion!
I love the fact that you have to be shirtless to play it 😂 part of the sound ?🤔
That aside great video as always! My favorite serie
Thanks Morgane! Yes shirtless gives the ssoundwaves totally different reflections 😉
@@ArtOfDrumming as a woman i think i’ll pass 😅😂
😊
id like to see a recreation of Michael Giles' drums from King Crimson's first album
José Pasillas (Incubus) is my vote.
Please do John Stanier from Helmet‘s Betty recording.. especially the Snare Drum!
Great suggestion!
Next : Tre cool of green day please
Great suggestion
Can you do Sleep Token's drum sounds from their Sundowning album next? Really cool drum sounds from that record especially from their snare! A good song to reference would be The Offering and another would be Take Aim.
Thanks for your suggestion man!
@@ArtOfDrumming You're welcome!
please, at some point do a video on Takashi Kashikura, the drummer from the Japanese math-rock band 'toe'
his sound and play are amazing, so expressive-he's easily among my favourite drummers
Hey rhynchocephalian - thanks for sharing your suggestion. To be honest I haven’t heard if him but now will definitely have a look. It’s always cool to get some fresh stuff infos like that!
@@ArtOfDrumming big thanks
👍🏻
Can you do a Stephen Morris of Joy Division? Especially the drum sound of Unknown Pleasures is quite unique!
👍🏻
Does anyone know how many turns you do on the batter and reso head to get that snare sound?
Can you do Tim Alexander's unique and memorable kit sound from the song John the Fisherman by Primus? That would be amazing
Tim’s an awesome and under rated drummer! Love his hi hat work , Tom and double bass flourishes in particular
I like the tom's sound
🙏
Overall this was really very close. But the one nitpick is also something I struggle with is getting the toms the same INYOURFACE level in the mix. That is so difficult.
In fact, Travis uses 2 different heads in the Take of your Pants and Jacket album....Emperor X coated for the heavy sound, and Controlled Sound in the higher snare songs :)
Thanks
Tattoos would make the Barker sound as well. Great job! 👍
Thanks, we will consider this in an upcoming video ;-)
@@ArtOfDrumming time to drag the intern to the tattoo parlor
Steven Adler - Paradise city
&
Joe Kramer - walk this way
Please!!!!!
why subtittles is off? Im from Indonesia and want to understand every detail in this video. Please turn it on 😇
Great content
Lol went all out recreating
I would shit my pants if you do an iconic drum sounds about Brann Dailor from Mastodon... This guys is a REALLY nice drummer!
Do Sean Kinney next!
I like how he’s gotta flex his cymbal collection like he’s sorting through record albums lol
You're a genius! Nice work pls do the drum sound of "Lo malo de ser bueno" from "El cuarteto de Nos", Saludos de Argentina🇦🇷👈💪
Hey, i really enjoy your drum recreation videos! Can you make something about AC/DC maybe Thunderstruck or Back in Black, because These songs are iconic. Best regards!
Hey xhaze! I think I do have great news for you: we got invited to visit the sono factory by the end of July. People film two videos there. One recreating video is all about AC/DC!
@@ArtOfDrumming This sounds interesting. I stay tuned!!
👍🏻
I love to see you guys cover Vinnie Paul from Pantera or Nick Menza from Megadeth. 🤘
Great suggestion!
Stay strong Travis. Pancreatitis is very very painful and dangerous. Travis is a genius.
Awesome!
Make video about Christoph Schneider (Rammstein) sound.
Maybe, from LIFAD (2009) album, or Mutter (2001).
Greetings!
💯👍🏻
@@ArtOfDrumming hell yeah! i think in Rammstein sound have so much studio FX's like a reverb and room сompression. But tuning snare, kick and hats - still awesome! (from 2001 to now)
I would love a Recreating Iconic Drum Sounds on Terry Bozzio... No, just kidding, I would love the drum sound of THE REV, Avenged Sevenfold in City of Evil... That album is ICONIC!
🙏💯
Tre cool would be AWSOME
Totally agree 💯
You amazing
You gotta try his sound today
👍🏻💯
man I need that Custom Ride D:
🤔 maybe it’s available for sale in ine store or another 😉
Pliss full cover version😁
Yes, will be released soon.
