Thank you! I've spent the last hour in my car trying to figure out the best placement. The only thing I really considered was the best recording angle and how would I run the cable. This helped me narrow it down a bit and made me realize what else I need to consider. Side note... My local auto parts store sells a pack of cable guides that can help keep the cable in place instead of tucking in the headliner and worrying about air bags on the side. They seem pretty discreet so I may pick those up and see how they look. This would also allow me to easily remove the cable if I need to swap it out or for cleaning without worry of snagging the cable and moving it.

"If you live in Europe, WHERE THEY DRIVE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD"!! :) Yes, in Britain and Ireland they do, but NOT in Holland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switserland, Austria, Poland, Belarus, Belgium, Luxemburg, Hungary, Ukraine, Greece etc. we also drive on the right side of the road.

I would do bottom center IF I can mount the dashcam on a rubigrid or something (Jeep Wrangler). This way it's not too low to have obstruction. However the dashcam size may factor in as well.

Usually, the most common seems to be towards the middle of the windshield, but the same considerations as mounting a front camera apply. Some people do offset the camera depending on what they are doing with the vehicle, some want more coverage of the driver, some prefer passenger and some even point the interior camera toward the outside window to capture interactions with LEOs (on dash cams that can be aimed). I would like to place my cam on the dashboard, preferably with a GoPro mount or a ball mount. I do not want to place the camera on the top, or have it upside down like most cameras. I don't think any place near the windshield will give a broad enough view of things happening laterally. I suspect the best place may be between the front seat headrests, at about eye level. This would also give a view of the dash instruments. Plus, if the camera also captures a rear view, that will give the broadest lateral view of the rear.

Hi Borg! Ah good question, the dash cam will continue to record if the car is on accessory mode. However yes some people fully turn off the car or are asked to fully turn off the car when pulled over. On those cases the dash cam will turn off unless a secondary power source has been wired (installers can install a secondary switch to provide power when the car is off). Regarding using a power station, I have not tested running one off a power pack so I can't comment on that but yes some people do run their dash cams off a battery pack. However I prefer a normal cigarette lighter adapter or standard hardwire kit since here in my State we experience really hot temperatures which I would not want to subject the battery to, that and the potential for a run away event (fire) during charging or discharging inside the car.
