The 100C is the best model of the bunch, IMO, because there’s none of those DJ features like the pitch adjustment, pop up light, etc. Thanks for the video!

Cool turntable, everything you need and nothing you don’t. I picked up a Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB to dip my toe in the vinyl world. I get it, vinyl sounds great but for my listening habits I’m just going to stick to digital. Great video Dave, keep them coming 👍

I own this table and think it is that bargain. Things I really like: 1.) adjustable height feet for leveling the table. 2.) the adjustable height tone arm pillar to reach accurate VTA. 3.) Auto tone arm lift at the end of side play to safe the life of your cartridge. 4.) The tone arm quality is as good as the REGA RB 250 I have on another table. The technics arm is a good one. 5.) This is one heavy table. The biggest advantage is when I used my old Shure test LPs for 1khz and 10KHZ tones, used my Tascam SDHC card recorder and recorded those tones at 2496 and viewed them in my DAW with the FFT display. The tones were just a sharp vertical spike at each frequency with no spreading at the bottom which means there is no speed issues you get with belt drive tables and I have two of them here that do have that spread base of the wave form speed. If you like piano music this is YOUR table. I will also say that this motor and platter are super quiet. If you have good pressings the silence between tracks is totally dead-quiet. I am using my old Shure M97 with the JICO stylus and love the sound through my two box Vincent phono stage. I bought mine off Amazon and it was here in 2 days. I did not care about the strobe or variable speed so this was the table for me. The fact that you can easily by additional head shells and easily change of cartridges is nice as well. My belt drive tables will now be the "test bed" for used vinyl finds to play the first time to see if they are in good shape. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

For what it is worth, I am a big fan of Technics turntables. Like you I used to own a Rega. I did like how it sounded, hated the drive system, changing speed was a total pain, the glass platter made me gag, gods that thing would ring. Promptly replaced with an Acrylic one. I also did not care for the lack of VTA and how the tonearm was mounted. I remember its nut would work loose and needed to be tightened constantly. In 2016 I acquired the 1200 GAE; the difference build quality between the two could not be starker. After 8 years of use, been very happy with it, albeit I will never ever use its pitch control. I agree, I think you will find your SL-100C to be a true overachiever. Congrats.

I own a P3 and a Technics sl-1200gr. The Rega is a much better table. The platter doesn’t ring when you’re using it to play music! I’ve had a Grado Gold w/8mz stylus and Audio Technica At440mla on both with identical phono stages same system and cable and the Rega was noticeably better. Not that Technics is bad it just doesn’t sound as good as Rega. Take the mat off the platter in the technics and flick it that’s ringing! BUT do you flick it while you’re playing records NO. Pack that myth away and speak common sense.

    • @ridirefain6606

@@josephfuller7008 Sadly that has not been my experience when comparing my Technics to the Planar 25. Otherwise, I would have kept it. I do not own the GR but the GAE. I am glad you enjoy and have good luck with your Rega. MY 1200 GAE 's is a heavier built TT. Its platter does not ring at all; it is well damped. The glass one on the Rega sounded like a bell. Which is why I immediately replaced it with an after-market acrylic one. The second thing I hated about it, was the Rega push where you had to manually spin the platter because the belt would slip on start-up. Third, was for you to change the speed, you had to remove the platter and reseat the belt onto either the larger or smaller pully to enact the speed change. Fourth, no support for 78's. Albeit that does not mean much unless you have an inherited collection of old shellacs like me. My fifth issue was with how the RB 600 arm was mounted. Using just a single large nut that more or less pressure fitted onto the plinth. It would come loose often affecting the alignment. So, I cannot concur a Rega is a superior table in terms of ease of use or reliability. Whether your P3 has superior sound is also debatable, being more a matter of taste. My experience with Rega's, their platter spins a very tiny smidgen faster than 33.3 giving its playback a lively presence. A Technics is all about accurate speed. So, it does not have that added sparkle a Rega does. I did like the sound of my Rega, enjoyed it for many years but it was not the right TT for me. I am much happier with the 1200 GAE, its sound, ease of use, and flexibility has been a much better experience. It will be the last TT I will own. Looked at VPI and Thorens, other than superior looks I am not sure I will gain enough performance wise to justify the additional cost. Even though they are most likely an even better table than what I already own. For me, there is a point where mighty damn good is plenty good enough.

The power button on this table does not feel very reliable ?? I can somehow understand it has some delay because it is logic controlled (does not respond to very fast presses) but it feels kinda irrational, all the other buttons work and respond like a charm. Someone else was talking about this same thing in reddit. Does it need a somekind of power down and up cycle ???

Well I saw things on eBay and I've had customers come back with issues that I know in fact we're not present when I sent the unit out, but you know it is what it is.
I repair vintage Hi-Fi equipment I know what this stuff is supposed to do and I know what it isn't supposed to do and at the end of the day with the way eBay works and a customer wants their money back you know there you go. The thing that sucks about it and one of the reasons I Don't sell on eBay as much as I used to is because a lot of times I'd sell an item and I just wouldn't get it back. The guy would message me and say there was an issue with the amplifier or the speakers or whatever and I would say okay and we'd reach an agreement and I'd never received the item back, so I quit doing it. Truthfully in my experience a lot of it has to do with people who are buying equipment and really don't know what it is they're dealing with And they get an item and don't understand how to use it properly or how it's supposed to be used and then they invariably have problems with it as a result

IDK, never really jived much with direct drive tables. I say this as someone who owned an SL1200, SL1600, SLQ3... They are extremely reliable and great for lots of types of music especially where drive is needed (electronic, hip hop/rap, and rock all come to mind), but not necessarily the best for low level and ambient detail retrieval. @@greatlookinglandscap Upd. Just got the turntable from my repair service. They confirmed that the problem was on the mechanical side and not on electric one. The latter would be a very bad thing. However, the problem was inside of the tonarm's base, in the tonarm's node responsible for lifting/going down - there is a throttle with a little stick or rod. And this rod was not in the position as it should be. The repair service told me that they set this rod on the proper straight position and lubricated a bit the whole mechanism. That's it. I was also said that a turntable like this was not easy repairable especially if a problem lies on an electric side. Without a PCB scheme it's almost impossible to do anything as distinct from any turntables of late 1970s - first half of 1980s that are mostly easy repairable. And this situation is generally related to the politics of every contemporary hi-tech company. For a ht company today it's important that a customer buys its products regularly given the high cost of repairing an old device in an authorized repair service.

First turntable 1971, had the strobe. 125 bucks. Gotta say I loved my thorens jubilee 20 years later too!
Now I enjoy my streaming, with no guilt whatsoever! Fook the disks, unless skipped across the lake 😂

what would technics do?they release a turntable to meet today standarts how deep they went to get so low quality but above most of the turntables around 1.000€ if wanting a aceptable sound 1.000€ more for this new strange cartridges, so a brand that was more evolved than Rega or Pro-Ject in 1970 as an example of expensive record readers or whatever those minimalist devices are, nothing related with turntables as in 60´s to late 90´s

I’m sure it’s well made, but a Rega RP6/Planar 6 are very well made ‘tables indeed. They’re not toys at all.

No there well engineered tables.I have owned many regas sir rp3 rp40 rp7 .But the build is superior on this table compared to rega as is the higher tech models but where rega shines is in there research and develepment proving adding weight to a turntable design is not vital to produce great sound which they do.Anyhow I like both the companies. But DD is a pretty complex technology. The rega does feel like a toy but doesnt sound like one
