I got into berkeley and I’m attending right now, your essays are extremely vital for the admissions process. I know plenty of people with “low” SAT scores and gpa who got in because of their essays! Goodluck to all!!
@aurora b express yourself and be your own voice!! no one knows you better than you and the admissions officers will see that when you’re true to yourself. dont be scared to talk about things that are personal to you because at the end of the day it is those things that make you a great candidate. personally i wish i had written my essays on different topics but i held back because i was scared but now i know i could’ve written better ones!!
@aurora b i wouldve written about growing up queer and/or my actual career aspirations.. i was too intimidated to write about either but i regret not doing so

This video came out 3 days before they were due, today exactly one year later, I haven't even started them until 3 days before they are due and am watching this.
The amount of appreciation I have for Brooke and Super Tutor is immense. Every move I make with taking the SAT, extracurriculars, essay tips, and now applying to college has been right on queue and has been far more helpful than my counselor at school will ever be

Watched all these vids last year with a week to write my essays. Wrote some of my best work following the tips and got into 10/10 schools. Chose UCLA over Cal and just finished my first quarter. Go Bruins :)

honestly I dont know if what I did for the "making your community a better place" essay counts, but I took it up to my interpretation and wrote about my Assyrian community and how I've started with VERY little opportunity to show others who we are and that we exist. the gist of it was that throughout my time in high school I've been trying to make that community a better place by just making us more known and putting pride into who we are (obviously I gave more concrete example and set the scene but ya. hope this works lol)
Gosh, I really wish I watched this before starting my essays. You really gave great examples of ways to answer the prompt I didn’t think about before. I’m still editing hem last minute actually lol but I’ve actually decided to rewrite one now 😅🥲.

I started to write my essays a week before the deadline and wrote my last essay on the last day. I finished it 7hrs before the deadline at 2 am (I’m from Germany🇩🇪) and I actually think that that essay is my best 😂

For prompth 7, would being part of Red Cross a good thing to write about? I did Red Cross over the summer and I'm bring my brother into it this summer. Ive also done about 183 hours just in Red Cross but I'm not sure if it will be a good topic to talk about it prompt 7.

@@Majestic469 yeah that's what I thought but seeing that different countries have different grading or even marking systems as a whole wouldn't it be hard to compare two international candidates?🤔
@@himalayanbreez1789 Berkeley has it's own way of calculating GPA and things like that. It's not automated, so people reviewing your application might know if you took hard classes or could get a sense of how "good" your scores.

I have a question and thought I would type it.
for the community one about service, would it not be a bad fluffy one if I talked about serving the youth by being a JC and teaching them the lessons of my personal childhood and becoming more silly and goofy to make there's better and kinda throwing away my shame? I have a story planed version for my favorite lesson I taught them. (AGE GROUP 4-7)

Been watching a lot of college essay videos in between editing mine, why do a lot of them have contradictory information? This video encourages telling a story, while others discourage it.
UCs are less story oriented in their taste than other colleges. They don't like "scene setting" I.e. where you slow burn the point and dive into a dramatic moment and focus on the story more than the answer to the question. But it's a good idea to back up your claims and answers to the questions with anecdotes and stories so it doesn't just feel like a resume-- it needs to feel more alive than a list and that means telling examples and stories from your life in a short but detailed manner. At the same time, no one argues with an excellent essay-- story or no story.
I know you said to tell a story, but I recently attended a UC PIQ workshop and asked the admissions counselor about this, and she said that it is best to write it directly/as if you were in an interview and to not make it creative. Now I am confused, which one is correct?
UCs like direct essays more than other schools do, but I find that stories of some sort are more compelling than raw, redundant information, or dry facts. In an interview you should also be telling stories! Of course you should answer the question (this is important), but you can use anecdotes and stories to help make your point. Your essays should get to the point (i.e. they don't want poems / abstract works or pseudo fiction), but stories are one of the best tools you have for getting a point across. Stories are examples that reveal what your answer is. They add detail and make your answer more compelling and potentially less generic.

Do they still require you to have 4 essays?
Yes. It's still the exact same process as described in the video. They give you 8 different prompts. You have to pick 4 and write 250-350 words for each.
