Yeah. Cherry Bomb is nowhere near my favorite album, but it was where Tyler found his voice, yet Melon’s review seems, like you said, like he didn’t study the album that well
@@matthewwareproductions7742 I honestly think Wolf is where he found his voice. Cherry Bomb to me is Tyler experimenting with two different styles: Distorted hardcore hip hop and beautiful jazz/soul rap, the latter of which he perfected with his next two albums.
@@matthewwareproductions7742 cherry bomb is my favourite album followed by igor the only song I dont like is run and it seems like he based his thoughts on the sound of the album on run instead of the album as a whole
@@Jacquemini I lowkey thought that Tyler released the instrumentals to Cherry Bomb as a response to Eminem’s diss “Tyler create nothing” (because instrumentally, Cherry Bomb is his most stacked/layered album)
Honestly, I'm not sure why he goes in on Tyler so hard. I don't know if I'd call Cherry Bomb's production bad because it feels like everything is supposed to sound that way. You know, chaotic and static and not smooth and there's an edge to it I really enjoy. He's way lighter on other artists. Also, the Christmas mix was just some really good tracks rather than a full project. Bashing it for not being a 45 minute long, industry shaping, release was pretty wack. Giving this video a strong five to a light 6.
It is very underrated. Probably because it’s not available on major music sources such as Apple Music and Spotify, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I love the part it plays in the trilogy (Wolf, Bastard, Goblin) and there are songs on there that are some of my personal favorite from Tyler, like French, Seven, Sarah, and Inglorious.
When you look at Fantano's ratings of Tyler albums like this, it really sells a sort of love-hate relationship. He either likes/loves what Tyler is doing on a project or he's completely turned off by it, with a few in-betwees. Still wish he reconsidered Cherry Bomb at least somewhat, a 4 feels way too negative when you look at the fact that some of Tyler's best stuff is on the album. Honestly, I'm guessing the next album will probably get a positive score considering how Fantano loved IGOR, probably not a 10 but likely a 7 or even 8.
Idek if igor is my favorite album just cuz of how nostalgic his other albums are. But objectively, you can not reasonably give igor anything less than a 9
My ratings, worst to best, from being a longtime OF fan and listener, dabbling in all corners of the collective: 7. Grinch 6. Flowerboy 5. Wolf 4. Cherry Bomb 3. Bastard 2. Igor 1. Goblin For people who wonder why I reviewed these the way I did; Grinch album is bottom because I never listened to the full thing and the 2 tracks I DID listen to just sounded like your average score, similarly to what Fantano said, a bit strewn together. Flowerboy is next to bottom because it's just not there for me. I did enjoy the album and liked a lot of tracks off there but coming from Wolf and Cherry Bomb just didn't do that album justice for me, it almost sounded foreign and kind of ruined it for me. I have not listened to Flowerboy in a few years now and probably won't again for awhile. That album also started Tyler's "ayo" phase which I've never been a fan of. Wolf is next due to, again, Fantano's point about the album having good highs, but honestly a lot of filler thrown in. If you cut Wolf, the 3 song set in the middle, Treehome95 and Lone out I would like the album a bit more. That doesn't mean I like the album for the louder tracks though, as Trashwang is not a favorite of mine, but I do enjoy Lucas Vercetti's feature. Cherry Bomb is the halfway point and it's higher up because this really sounded like a Tyler album, more today than ever. It's him doing exactly what he wants with an album and I enjoyed his creative showcasing. Similar to Wolf, some highs and lows, definitely a few tracks I would take out for a better experience. Cherry Bomb to me is also an album that you can't really group with his other work. Bastard, Goblin and Wolf all follow the narrative he imposed which he did well. The albums are linked and it ends there. On the other side, Flowerboy and Igor can be grouped because of the sound and style. Cherry Bomb is the odd one out, which heightens my appreciation for it. Bastard is next in the top 3. Just a great album, great start to his music career. I like Bastard a bit more than other albums because of the mixtapes and such from 2007-2010. Bastard kind of sounds like all of that in one. Igor is runner up simply because it's an easy listening experience. You could say I'm a bit stuck in the 2009-2012 OF years, and I would agree, I like that stuff more, but Igor can easily rope you in with it's production and sequencing. Goblin. Goblin is #1 because it was that album for me. I was playing GTA V years back and heard Tyler's track "Garbage" for FlyLo. For a few months it was my favorite track from FlyLo, I'd always have that station playing and when that track came on it was great. I didn't know about Odd Future before that point. I actually thought Tyler was a 35-40 year old guy from how deep his voice was and how the track was mixed. One day I looked the song up on RUclips as I hadn't played GTA in awhile, just wanted to hear it again. It sounded better as ever but the recommendations drew me to another Tyler single, Yonkers. Absolutely loved it, as I was very into that sort of music at the time. Kept listening to Garbage, kept listening to Yonkers until some months to a year later when I decided see if Garbage or Yonkers was attached to an album or compilation album. I found Goblin and fell in love with it. Yonkers, Transylvania, She, Fish, Tron Cat, Analog, Window, Nightmare, all great tracks. Found out a bit later there was a deluxe version with 3 more songs and to this day Burger and Steak Sauce are a few of my go to tracks. Goblin opened me up to the rest of Tyler's work, allowed me to listen to Earl, Frank, MellowHype and Domo for the first time and I still listen to all that stuff still to this day. Really got me into the genre and only boosted my love and knowledge for music, as before I had only really been listening to rock/pop hits from the 1980's and 90's. Good stuff.
