good video i have 6 orchids now 2 with spikes 1 in flower and 3 nothing yet . beautiful flowers and well worth the wait for the spikes to appear then i get excited..thanks for vidio and advice..im from Yorkshire in England 😊
Great video. I’ve heard orchids are difficult to care for. I know someone who grows them so I’ve shared the video with them. I’ve heard some people say they water them by putting an ice cube in the pot once a week. ?????
@@br2080 Hello and thank you for watching my video. Orchids can indeed get tricky, but NO ice cubes !!! In nature they are tropical plants and are epiphytes, meaning they grow on tree branches. They prefer warm, humid tropical environments. So putting it into human terms, placing an ice cube into an orchid growing medium to water it is like placing a human into a swim suit and then having them stand under an ice cold shower. Basically incorrect and almost inhumane. Doing so might keep the existing blooms for a bit but that orchid will never thrive now rebloom ever again .
Very informative. Currently have 5 Phalaenopsis in various bud stage. One belongs to my DIL. She just gives it to me after it finishes blooming and I take care of it until next blooming cycle. I keep them bare root in transparent glass jars with only enough bark to keep them upright and a little spaghnum moss on top to lock in the moisture. They are delightful and am looking forward to years of learning and watching them grow. I’m in zone 9ish I think. Mediterranean climate by the seaside near Rome.
