Ren just posted this: I expected a split reception on masochist, I'm glad I got it I wrote the song on a day in 2021 I felt particularly bitter about living in a sick body for most my life, about anger at the greed in the music industry. Killing everything you know, even your support systems is also about rebirth, some people will have caught the Samsara line and see a man cursing the gods for the hands hes been dealt, others will see it as a track that’s just being vulgar and dark for the sake of it. It's all of those things.
Every line in the verse starting with Woop! Woop! is a hip hop reference. Woop! Woop! That's the sound of the police: KRS-One Straight from the underground: NWA Supersonic: JJ Fad I Came to Bring the Pain: Method Man Hi, My Name Is: Eminem
From a psychological perspective, the self-defeating behaviours that a masochist endures are often done by the self to the self. In other words, masochists inflict pain and humiliation on themselves.
Masochist is not just used in cases of sexual gratification. It is also used for people who are so used to living with pain that they create it when pain is absent from their lives. In common terms we would call a person that expects different results when they do things more than once that have not ended well in the past for them a masochist. You know the old adage, don't expect the same action to yield different results. In this case masochist is used interchangeably with dumb a**. Lol !!!
Guys most of REN’s fans don’t come from hip hop like myself. I am seeking the reactors that point out the references, maybe insert a video? , and welcome us Renegades into the culture.
When I find a new reaction you've done, I feel like I'm about to get a visit with my good-natured acquaintances. Your on-screen personnas brighten my days!
The key line comes at the end of the whole "kill" theme. "Kill these metaphors I write to all attachments in this life". He's killing all attachments that could define or control who you are, while screaming into the void, in anger and pain. It's masochistic because he's killing all potential attachments, even the positive ones. He's raging against everything but it holds out the potential for rebirth and starting with a clean slate. Hence the references to Samsara and Nirvana. :)
Loved your reaction! For me, the lyrics hit in a strangely philosophical way. Here's the thing: We say that want equality, but we also want the security that comes from creating attachments. The problem is that by creating those attachments we are also creating larger divides between people. As people pull closer to some, so do they grow further away from others. So which do we want more, Equality or Security? Tearing away those alliances is just one step in creating a truly level playing field. Even when people are attempting to be fair in their views, their alliances will show though. Just a little food for thought.
I say it!! LOL My five year old son says, "hello, hello, hi" when he hears me singing the intro song. You never know if you're in the building, Mr. Haz, or in the garden.
Someone who enjoys pain, or who derives pleasure from harming oneself or being harmed by others. Someone who obtains pleasure from receiving punishment.
I don’t do the intro but often mime along when the pre intro is mind state, although I’ll admit that for ages before I watched the whole video I thought Unorthodox was singing ‘this is my estate” like he was giving it large about a council estate or something 😂
After multiple listens, I started noticing all the sounds on this track. Like in the beginning, you can hear a record start playing, and what sounds like people in a bar, clicking and chatter. All through the track you hear Ren whooping and going hey and making other sounds.
So much in this song. Layers and layers... his feelings toward his old label/going independent, Religious concepts of destroying attachments/ego/the self, and what it would look if one takes it too literally, how we respond to artistic violence vs. real violence in media and society, the way the sounds he makes, in the production or with his voice, simply make you feel. just. so. much.
I say " i have been Mr .Haz, and i have been unorthodox Fellow. RESPECTTAA! I don't know more my Jam . Let me just say that Ren never ceases to surprise and amaze me . On the first listen i didn't get . Then i educated myself , and now i have listen to this track several times. He is definitely a musical genius. He has just shared another part of himself. You could say he is a bit angry , but i'm not angry, because you guys have left me with a great big Smile .

Hi, My Name Is: Eminem
Dropping KRS-One, Method man/ NWA and Eminem references on one track . He has some old school blood in those young veins.
And the clap

A masochist is someone who derives pleasure from pain. It doesn't have to be sexual, lol. :)
Another killer beat by REN ❤🔥🔥🔥

Have you guys seen Ren's buddy Viktus' new song? Deffo worth reacting to. Peace ☮️

That's class, watch out for the remix 🤣😉
Wondering if the line ‘Follow me down to the river and honour me’ is a reference to ‘Down to the river to pray’. An American Christian song.🤔🦇
