Hi there! Iinspired by your awesome video 1 year ago, at the end of June I set off from Poland to Monaco through 25 highest passes in the Alps. It took me 37 days, 3000km and 55km of ascent. Once again thank you for such an inspiring journey!
@@BicycleTouringAddict Unfortunately, I don't have any video. But my goal was to take a picture at every pass. I made a simple webpage with the photos. I'll link it later today ;)
As a long distance hiker I can feel your pain, only after doing a long distance travel by our own body can we appreciate life in a different matter. You are an inspiration for my next adventure.
A german Guy, in Austrian Alps, drinking a polish beer and cycling past french guys. Does it get any more European than that? haha great video. love from Ireland.
Anni Körsch Ist sogar schon 3 Jahre her.
Big respect man! I am going on my firt bike tour from Aalborg, Denmark to Prague, Czech republic and seeing this was a great inspiration :) Greetings from Slovakia, keep bike touring man
Nice trip man, some big climbs in there. I rode from England to the south of Italy in 2004 and went over the Simplon pass, and yeah, that was the worst part of my whole tour! Bloody awful, especially with a chest infection. But couple of days in Domodossola and Verbania on Lago Maggiore at the southern side of it made it worth it :)
Fantastic Ralph! Thank you for the video. I particularly like it where you team up with Luca and Thomas. Times like that are pure magic. I think you missed the three passes I know - Oberalp, Susten and Brünig. I rode them back in the 1980s. My God - it was 34 years ago! Back then we took maybe a roll or two of photos. Video wasn't even an option. Like you I go sick once. It was somewhere in the Netherlands and I had eaten a dodgy Chinese-Indonesian meal the previous evening. After about an hour's ride, I felt really weak and light-headed but my friend persuaded me to keep going slowly - "because you might as well suffer on the bike as sitting there doing nothing". I followed his advice and unbelievably I was right as rain by midday. IIRC, that was on the stretch from Dordrecht to Bergen-op-Zoom. Ah, those were the days.
Very nice. I did all those climbs in three cyclo camping trips of between 4200 to 5500Km each in 1980 (Tour of France), 1981 (Vienna-Reims) and 1982 (Sophia-Reims). I remember the Grossglockner as the toughest climb of all with its 20% slopes...
Hi from Sweden! Thank you very much for making this fine video cycle touring trip available to here on YT! Very good and greatly inspiring! Well done sir! Lovely views to be seen in your good video! Wishing you many safe and happy cycling touring trips in future and take very good care of you sir! Best Regards from Sweden! (now subscribing to your channel here on YT)
awsome, have done most ob those climbs - with less weight though and on seperate trips. This year i went from Boologna to Calabria, last year munich to vencie.
This was a nice video. One thing you have to remember is to consume as many fruits as you can get your hands on. This will keep your sugar fuel topped up.
+Chris Rishworth Thanks Chris. Nice to see your comment here. I know your channel for a while and like your videos. I found it funny to see that in one of your videos you were filming the notes of the CyclingDutchGirl that she left on a wall in some hut in Australia. I don't know her personally but I watched some of her clips and it was funny to see how the bicycle touring community connects sometimes :)
Racing Ralph! You still owe me some photos:) Great skills on the camera. It might take some time but these shots deliver! I'm gonna check your other videos. Keep on cycling! Thomas (the machine)
+Thomas Parie Hey Thomas. Great to hear from you !! I thought maybe Luca send you some pictures? I sent a lot of them to him maybe 3 months ago. Anyway you can see some of the pictures from my trip here: facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.471330829694874.1073741828.470960069731950&type=3 I will send you a message on your google profile to give you my email address. If you want more pictures just let me know by email. Thanks for your message. Merry Christmas !!!
The nice thing about watching your videos, especially this one, is it subtly shows some of the good things about having an EU (at least the ideal of an EU) without outright saying it.
+Rene Braun Thanks. He told me he bought it in Copenhagen where he started his trip. But I'm sure if you google "Cargo Bike" you will find your answer :)
Very nice video...I was in route des grandes alpes in august too....and not so quite sure, but I think I saw you in Col de Galibier, it was on 5th august, were you there then?... ;o)) You did a great job in this touring, keep going and show us your crazy tours....Ahhh by the way...you find Symplonpass terrible because the tunnels...but you said nothing about Gross san Bernard 6kms long tunnel!!!!!!!....horrible tunnel...I did that pass too and almost get hit by a LKW, who not ever care. Safe tours!
+Ollie D. Hey Ollie. Thanks. I just checked some pictures that I took the day I climbed the Galibier and it was 12th August not 5th. And of course I remember the tunnel at the Grand Saint Bernard, a very long one. Just like with any other tunnel there is only one thing you have to do: Pedal fast and hard to get the hell outa there :)
Jajajajajaja...yes and pray it doesn't come a big truck and don't see you....ahhhhhh...Ok, then it was somebody that look like you. Safe rides and enjoy more rides!
Check I wanna see the world on RUclips, something similar to your journey. The Simplon pass is a little better the other way, Switzerland to Italy... it still a busy road, not very enjoyable. And Nufenen pass that’s a real pleasure to climb... Very steep.
13:09 When you're riding in an area like this, with a steep drop to your right, you probably should be riding closer to the middle of the lane. That way, you force the cars to move further left to overtake, so if you have a car making a too-close pass, you have plenty of room to move to the right, and if a car clips you, you could even fall off and still be okay. If a car clipped you riding that close to the edge, it looks like it's a long way down. I'm sure European drivers are more careful than they are here in the US, but still - better safe than sorry.
This was a great video, cool character as well. Are many of the passes with those tunnels you have to share with big trucks? Trying to plan a route from Lyon to Milan....
+Peter Kalawur Thanks Peter. Do you mean video equipment? I had a GoPro 3+ Silver Edition as well as a digital camera (Olympus Stylus SH-1). I would not recomment the Olympus Stylus SH-1, there are better ones.
+Bicycle Touring Addict. I have an old contour. I wish it had a screen. I cannot see what I capture until I upload it to a computer. I also am wondering about the stick? Any special brand you recommend? I also have a Canon PowerShot SX50 HS which takes nice pictures but may be too heavy for a stick.
+Bicycle Touring Addict. Thank you Ralf. I will buy one. I showed my father your video and he loved it as well. We would love to tour this area some day. When we do, I would gladly request some route suggestions.Peter
Hey, awesome video Rolf, danke! I have a question. How do you find these awesome roads? I'm planning a tour from Santander back to Wales and want to take these quiet roads, but I can't find a map that is suitable to give me this information and of course can't really use google Earth whilst touring. Can you help?
Hello Stephen. Thank you. I can recommend the website www.outdooractive.com. I used this site to plan my trip for the Alps. You choose your activity (bicycle ride, mountain bike, road bike, long distance cycling ...) and the system automatically chooses the adequate road types. I saved my track as a gpx file and uploaded it on my gps.
beautiful videos with all those climbs, I'm obsessed of this video that I will ride in the summer of 2017, do you have a link for the route that you ride. greeting from holland

Everyone give this man a thumbs up! That's the least we can do.
Thanks 😉
You are my hero!!!! Greetings from Croatia.

Mega gut ! Krasse Aktion !
Anni Körsch Danke 🙂
aber das ist ja schon zwei Jahre her, was kommt als nächstes?

Respect indeed! I'd struggle to manage that with my ebike, but would still enjoy the challenge - well done!

hahahaha, Alter Schwede - Jesus. Best Translation ever :-) great trip, my feet are itching. I need to do something like this, too

What spectacular scenery, all the beautiful mountains around you, riding through the heavens. Wonderful video!!
Aptly named channel.... Mate, you are a legend as well as an addict. This makes me want to do insane mileage on my bike!!!
"you have to put a carrot on that pole" hahahaha that was great.
Amazing trip. I liked way you presented all the journey moments. Glossglockner ROCKS.
+Algirdas Miseckas Thank you :)
Well done! To do that with camping gear - you're a special breed.
