McKall Denney oh cool but I have to do it 30 minutes before showtime because we are professional ballet school but you have to do the curlers day before and wear overnight and then they will take it out
In some nutcrackers she is called Clara, but sometimes she is called Marie or Maria. In my nutcracker her name is Masha because it is a Russian ballet.
A winter Wonderland! I saw it once performed by our city’s troupe accompanied by our city’s orchestra! It was the greatest thing to see it performed up close and personal! Loved every moment!

Lilly Anderson No, everyone does. It's the same with theater. All of the boys in my company, including the older ones, wear make up so they don't look washed out or too pale onstage
AstroDancer mostly when I’m getting ready for the performances you do see guys putting makeup on cuz of the stage light and to make there face look smoother.
It's insane how some girls perform a lead role, such as Clara, at young ages like 11. At my studio, the girls are in high school, so they can perform on pointe, and do more advanced dancing.
It's a different version of the story. Balanchine wanted the students from SAB to be part of the ballet - in fact, he liked to find places for them in several ballets - and he took special time to give them instruction.
Wow they are young! That’s really cool for my studios nutcracker I think our Clara is in high school so she can do all dem pointe work bc we go on pointe about in middle school and not elementary like some Edit: also for the hair for party scene we have to put our hair in curls and not use the curling iron bc the curl will come out even with hair spray XD and it hurts
This year I am in he nutcracker I dance party girls, snow, and flowers it is my first time and I am so excited I think I'll do great, well wish me luck 😀
Oh gosh! My ballet is required to get our makeup on 1-2 hours before, then we put on our costumes 40 minutes later, we have to wait for 15 minutes and not talk at all so no one has to hear random children talking. For hair we usually wear buns and we have volunteers to put on our makeup, we also usually have the same makeup even bon bons. (I think.) My old dream of being was the rats, for my ballet dance, it’s just fun and you all do the same thing at once. We have 3 parts to be in. The intro rats, mice, and Soldiers just dance (not the battle yet.) then we have the battle. In all I think it’s 5 minutes, the dances are short (most of them.) so there you have it, my old dream of doing, and what to wear. Thanks for reading
+Mundo no Mar Doesn't had to do with Balanchine. In the Original form E.T.A Hoffman Theres the Name Marie / Masha in the Russian Ballet version. Clara and Friedrich were the children of a Friend of Hoffman which were his Inspiration for Fritz and Marie
At my ballet studio we do A Christmas Carol and this year I get to go from having a pretty dress and nice makeup to a dead poor kid style fun fact in 2017 parts of the show were on the news because we were the first performance after the stage we use was redone
Is this ABT nutcracker…. Or SAB bc the ABT costumes are pretty different from these. And in ABT, there are no child mice or candy canes. There also is no bed. I could be wrong tho and no sled at end…..
At my studio it's not professional but we have professional guest people for the uh... I don't know what they are called. It's a guy and a girl and we have a live orchestra which apperently not very many places even professional have... This year I am a Young Lady(Party Girl), Big Mouse(we have Baby Mice, Big Mice and the king Mouse), and a lady of the court(which is in the same scene as angels and stuffs like that)...
I just saw a comment on this since it's old, and I've changed studios since then 😂. This year I got to be the grandma in the party scene, a snowflake, and I got to do Chinese 😊
We are required to do our make up 10 minutes for the warmup which is 5-10 minutes before our production change our hair for the dances and costumes under 5-3 minutes they dances are very close together!r We have to that under 25-30 minutes
Did they perform this with the Miami city ballet company because I saw the Nutcracker exactly like this also isn't the main character the girl named CLARA
I always get so sad once the nutcracker is over. Gone are fun times with my friends and gone is fancy costumes. Gone is makeuo and hair and back to the same old routine
I was in the Nutcracker. I’m not professional, or a kid, or in New York, heck im not even good. But I was in the Nutcracker in a small town and to be honest it looked a lot like this but everything looked less professional lol.
For us make-up is 1hour before and hair has to be fun earlier by parents to keep it o curls.parents curl it then get the hair and bunch it and put it in a hair not and Bobby pin the end of hair not to hair Coustume is 30 min before and we have to be down there 15 min before BOYS just were a bit of powdered foundation and blush on cheeks.... (With the company I do it with boys are played by girls in the party scence...but there is ACTUALL BOYS)
2019 anyone? 10 years later!
Lé Chouinard me
Lé Chouinard me
Lé Chouinard me
You mean 9 years later?
Meee
They do their makeup 30 minutes before the show?!? We are required to have it done before the warm up that is 2 hours before the show
McKall Denney same
McKall Denney oh cool but I have to do it 30 minutes before showtime because we are professional ballet school but you have to do the curlers day before and wear overnight and then they will take it out
We have to have ours done before the run through, about 9 hours before the show...
It’s probs because they are kids therefore would end up wiping it all off before the show
Yeah same
The kids performing in the show seem cheering and that they enjoy what they're doing without being nervous, it's beautiful
It's almost every ballerina's dream to become a Sugar Plum Fairy, it's even one of my biggest dreams! It's just so pleasing to watch..
I love the music in it :)
For me I really want to be Clara and also the king Mouse
@@abfarrow3596 I'm Clara this year and honestly, it's not as fun as it sounds. You just sit there the whole time for the second act.
@@gurll8784 yeah. But you get to watch people... And you feel special.
Same. I either want to be a snowflake or sugar plum fairy.
Wait I thought Clara was the princess...ok I'm so confused
Claire Baire alot of people also call Clara Marie at times. But in the original version it's Clara
@@sofie.clare0274 why is she sometimes called marie?
In some nutcrackers she is called Clara, but sometimes she is called Marie or Maria. In my nutcracker her name is Masha because it is a Russian ballet.
Coconut Oreo the balanchine version is different, so her name is marie.
She used to be called Marie and now it's Clara but some people still call her Marie.
I'm in the nutcracker and boys need makeup mostly foundations and a little bit of makeup
Cool what part do you have I have a party girl big mouse and a pollichinelle
Lilly Anderson ya just to bring out there features so they don't look like boards on stage
unpredictable.annie cool!my show is this Friday Saturday Sunday then Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday
Lilly Anderson yes I’m also
Lilly Anderson I feel like it also depends on the company
When muscle memory kicks in to the music in the background and you cant watch cuz ur dancing.
Relatable
The music started and my toes pointed 😂
yesss when the children’s gallop was in the background
omg ME
SO TRUE
Chandler M Same! I heard the sugar plum and my feet pointed and my arms started doing the movements 😂
Sorry but boys do need hair and makeup...trust me in my dance studio there is a guy and he uses makeup and does his hair lol.
ally heath Depends on the studio.
Not young boys in a traditional ballet. The standard age for beginning to wear makeup in a ballet is around 13
Lipstick and eyeliner helps see your eyes and mouth more
They do still need to like they have eyes lol
True i am in a company and yes they do even if they are strait
A winter Wonderland! I saw it once performed by our city’s troupe accompanied by our city’s orchestra! It was the greatest thing to see it performed up close and personal! Loved every moment!
Everybody on stage needs make up because I am an actress and you would look very oily other wise
And pale which is why the foundation sometimes looks a bit too orange offstage
Yes. Even the boys.
I perform as well. I’ve been told that everyone wears makeup because the lights are so bright on stage that you’d get flushed out otherwise.
That is the point of not putting makeup on the boys. It makes them look dirty.
Whoa they’ll be 22 and 20 now

Don't the boys need makeup?
meepAGproductions they do at my studio...
Same. I guess not at all studios though...
At my school they do, because it can wash their faces out on stage.
Boys there age don’t need it but the older they do
Lilly Anderson No, everyone does. It's the same with theater. All of the boys in my company, including the older ones, wear make up so they don't look washed out or too pale onstage
Fun fact Marie actually did play the sugar plum fairy last yer
Okay um just saying but some guys do makeup and there hair for performances
Cora Is a potato the young boys/ children dont need to
Yes but for the child nutcracker roles the boys don't have to.
Cora Is a potato in the nutcracker I’m in the guy’s do makeup that match their skin tone
I do when I play Fritz.
AstroDancer mostly when I’m getting ready for the performances you do see guys putting makeup on cuz of the stage light and to make there face look smoother.
I literally just found out this video is from 2009!!
Is it just me that always thought she has a giant bow in her hair in the thumbnail turns out it’s just a jacket
I’m in party scene and pero and Chinese (some people don’t do Chinese btw)
We do levels so we kinda have it by level
We do levels as well!! We also do Chinese. If you look up Laci Justice you can find my studio

Lil Cool Clara and Marie are the same person, but with different names. As you can see, this is the Balanchine version , so the girl is called Marie
Lil Cool also, your profile photo is just awesome!

We have a nutcracker where I’m from and this year I’m the nutcracker and the princess is called Clara for us.
Why is she Marie isn’t it Clara and Clara isn’t a princess

I'm in nutcracker in Finland. It's little different. I sing at the snowflake walz.
One time before an Opera backstage we played an Ouji board lolll
It’s sad that things like this aren’t real.
In Nutcraker at Romania biggest opera house I would be in Chinese dance, in snow fight and a kid.
She is way too young to be Marie. She looks like she is 6.
I know, right? She was 10 at the time and at my nutcracker they are at least in high school!
Every ballet company is different.

I watched it that’s why it was familiar
I like the nutcracker
I’m a clown! (At the Washington school of ballet) But boys need makeup too, not just girls.

Balanchine`s version is the best and the most artistical!
Am I the only one who thought that Callie was wearing a MCR jacket (or something that looks like it)
