It’s crazy that the devs don’t understand that changing combat would also improve PVE. Like there’s no way the game functions as a survival game with current enchants. There needs to be an overhaul to enchantments and potions. And that overhaul would likely include needing to fix tridents (especially in the context of the mace) and make netherite shields. Potentially nerf shields so normal enemies aren’t pointless. Like by the time you rebalance pve you’re mostly done with a pvp update

Exactly to both of those. It's a huge cop-out to go "It's no longer popular" after they essentially neglected that popularity out of existence, and it's a joke that Java edition (an inherently PC-focused version of the game) has to maintain parity with what is essentially a mobile/console port of the game for some arbitrary reason imposed by Mojang/Microsoft.

They seem to want parity between them but only stuff that the player base doesn't want for some reason. You can fill cauldrons with potions in Bedrock and then have a whole stack of arrows applied to it. It's such a cool mechanic gives potion arrows a viable way to achieve. We could have that in Java. @ you do realise that Bedrock edition includes Xbox, Playstation, Switch, and PC/Windows right? most Bedrock players are probably impacted negatively because of mobile/touchscreen controls. minecraft's obscene size and success, mojang's suffocating moral approach to adding new mobs without loot, their obsession with adding side content that you have to travel thousands of blocks for, most updates not meeting expectations since they barely change the main gameplay, and bedrock edition parity splitting development between itself and java are the biggest things holding minecraft back from being a truly great game. because of all these things, it will only ever be just a fairly good game that usually requires mods. most features that _could_ be added will usually fall to one of those things. the fact we got the nether update and caves + cliffs, let alone within a couple years of each other is actually mind boggling if you think about it. if we're really lucky we might even get an end update before 2035, and maybe, just maybe bedrock edition will actually be a playable game by then too, despite all the time apparently spent on it by mojang

So many of the features in this update should have been added to combat today. Reach variations, hitting through grass, bow changes, stackable potions. Though having both spam and charged hits be a thing is sort of confusing and unintuitive, and would further separate the pvp community.
Combining the two makes both playerbases happy, in what world you consider that confusing and unintuitive when nowadays there's stuff like crystal pvp which must be the most unintuitive thing you could ever think of by also completely overwhelming new players with items.
@@Firespecialstar Currently there are 2 playerbases of pvp. Both playerbases have spent years getting good at their combat system and are comfortable with it. If Mojang made a new update that completely overhauled combat again, all it would do is separate the community for a second time. I think its unintuitive because it is unclear to players whether they should be using auto spam clicking vs charged attacks. I just think it makes it more complicated, when having just charged hits is simpler and more understandable. Wenn wir dem Spiel im vergangenen Jahr neue Arten von Höhlen und Wäldern verpasst haben, wird es vorerst um andere Dinge gehen, zum Beispiel das Kampfsystem." and that they want to change it
As a native German speaker, I can confirm that ‘Kampfsystem’ directly translates to ‘Combat System.’ While I could only find some screenshots of an article covering the topic in German, if the information in the article is accurate, then it is true that she said it.
I tried recreating the axe enchantment from the combat test snapshots when data driven enchantments came out; the functionality for it does not exist and can't even be worked around with datapack shenanigans. I knew it wasn't in the plans at all right there and then.
I remember talking to people back in the day about this. Some of the changes were awful for PvE, making some tiers of equipment completely not worth it going into. The diamond sword damage nerf in particular was atrocious, making a Creeper take 3 hits to die from it instead of 2, which was the same as the iron sword.
They thought it was a good idea to "fix" p4 diamond armor by making iron armor not do anything. Pure brilliance. Don't forget they wanted to degrade armor effectiveness as the durability went down, but somehow that got enough backlash to get reverted.
The only things I want them to implement combat-wise is stackable potions, and axes being considered weapons, not just tools (no extra deterioration when using them to attack mobs).
Can we get a combat or End update? Mojang: Here is new pet number 3056 and wooden blocks that are a darker shade of pink, cool see you next year. Also we have been working too hard, we are gonna scale back future updates

It's probably not his job specifically to work on combat, furthermore, that was mostly his own opinion, it doesn't necessarily reflect the games development or the entire dev team
I really liked the combat snapshots and playing them on the servers, it was really fun but after a while I just figured there would never be another combat update
Combat is such an integral part of the game that it needs a lot of work. Imagine they add a mob and the current combat system just doesn't let you fight them. All of these things need to be put into perspective when doing these things. Everytime they add something like a hostile mob it will need to go through more tests which take up more time for other features.
they added the warden, a mob so stupidly strong that mojang wanted to make op on purpose to make the players not fight them. let's not make up more stupid excuses on why they wouldn't add this updatr
Just as a FYI for the people who want to test the combat snapshots in modern versions, there exists a mod that is named Combatify that tries to port the 8c snapshot to modern versions :)
The Modern PVP meta for the most part revolves around crystals and anchors. Which have completely transformed how combat works. It’s more complex than ever. And additions like the mace have caused players do evolve completely different play styles. Modern pvp is so far removed from 1.8 the gap is unbridgeable.
It wouldn't suprise me if most people playing today haven't even played with the pre-1.9 combat system outside of servers like Hypixel. Rehauling the combat today would probably leave to the same outrage 1.9 caused.
This changed combat system would probably be harder to learn than the 1.9 system. I grew up with 1.9 combat and did some combat in beta 1.7.3 which has the old system and the old system is just skillless(if that is even a word). Just 100CPSing a mob or another player out of the arena is do boring
@CoolLink-Zelda beta 1.7.3 is such an old system to the point that is outdated even to normal 1.7 and 1.8... not to mention netty problems being present... and let's not start with crap like "Oh i can just win by autoclicking" when you never dedicated even 1 month to learn how to pvp in 1.7, it probably requires even more movement precision and aim since both of you players are actively swinging, meaning you can potentially trade to max minecraft reach.
@CoolLink-Zelda That's just wrong, 1.8 pvp does require skill, such as precise w-tapping when comboing a player, or learning to use a fishing rod to push an enemy, allowing said combo. And, as someone else said, b1.7.3 is outdated compared to 1.7/8
I think the combat tests would have worked very well in 2019/2020 because at that point 1.9+ combat didn't have nearly as big of a community as it does nowadays. Especially with advanced that are currently being made to fully port over 1.8 pvp to 1.21 (including blockhitting and stuff like that), I think its very likely that mojang will end up just making the best out of the current combat system. Thats a shame, because I love the combat tests, I played them a lot and have been a part of the combat test community for a very long time, it's sad to see all of our hopes and dreams lead to nothing. But at the very least, with the wide arrange of customization that mojang has allowed servers to do in the last updates, it's fully possible to recreate CTS combat in the newest versions with a few plugins. Maybe we are just entering a time of every server having it's own take on combat, and honestly, I think that is the best option. Minecraft is a sandbox, why not create our own combat?
@WitherSweat HI WitherXGuard xd. Don't worry, you'll be used as stock footage for the rest of eternity because Ampheta used you to showcase the parry combo.
tbh the idea of servers having the choice on combat is beautiful... too bad mojang will still promote 1.9+ as hard as possible in order to fully kill 1.7/1.8. all these years trying to improve in the game, just because mojang for some reason refuses to provide any kind of support to the pvp, and leaving us with a very flawed system, which problems keep actively popping up
I think an option to choose either combat would be good for servers honestly. I also personally think Parrying might add some combat depth, maybe in pvp, like using your sheild just as your hit resets the attacker or they have a second of no attacking.
parrying would be borderline just impossible to predict attacks as they are instant, you would just have to spam the block button and would take some of the fun in pvp if shields were the most op tool in a fight (somewhat to what fishing rods were in 1.8 pvp), parrying could be possibly good if it existed only as a way to counter axe hits
The only good thing we ever got out of the mob vote was it ending. As a community, we somehow managed to consistently pick the worst option possible every damn time

It’s tiring I just want an update on most things that haven’t been touched since 1.0 or 1.8
So much of this would have been excellent additions, like the potion stacking and arrow multihit. Still glad spam attacking is gone though. Needing to pace your attacks makes combat so much more interesting and strategic.
There's also a mod that brings the CTS mechanics to modern versions (and even expands on the mechanics, and everything is toggleable, so if you don't like one change, you can revert it) It's called combatify
the combat snapshots will never be added into the newer game due to the addition of the mace. unless they made the mace the only weapon which still had a cooldown, turning the mace extremely weak and easily counterable with the longer reach with tridents, the mace would be used as a spammable weapon and it would be incredibly hard to use it as intended edit: this is just what i think, please debate with me and correct me about anything i got wrong! just be civil
The cooldowns still exist and 8c. theres actually 2 cooldowns. one that shows when you can hit with max reach which is visible with the attack indicator. and one thats invisible which is capped to your weapons attack speed. I would assume the mace would have a slow attack speed and a 2.5 block reach possible 3 blocks.
@@Scholing223 yeah, but i think it wouldn't be viable in combat since every other weapon will be able to hit them away and do a ton of damage before you can use the mace
@@spendingsaucer6428 yeah, i just think that most other weapons will have too much of an advantage against the mace for anyone to use it with wind charges as intended. if it has a slow attack speed while most weapons attack so quickly and some have more reach, you won't use it like a sword/axe and people will hit you away with a trident while you're falling onto them
@ trust me, that small community that MisterEpic talked about, I was apart of that for the past 4 years. The axe and sword are used more than you would expect even with its less reach. People do not have as perfect distancing as you would expect and the mace would be used. Plus in endgame PvP (netherite, crystals, pots) trident really isn’t used unless in a very certain circumstance.
if they want to add offhand they would have to force all mobile players to use the new mobile controls with dedicated buttons for attack and place blocks, instead of how they can pick what controls they want to use
@ I'm assuming you haven't played Java Edition? The offhand doesn't have any special controls, it's just a backup. The offhand is used when the main hand does not already have the same action. For example, when holding a pickaxe in the main hand and a torch in the offhand, if you right click on a block, it will place the torch, because the pickaxe cannot be placed. It's also not possible to use the offhand for attacking or breaking blocks. There is a button to quickly swap the hands though. That could be implemented by simply tapping the offhand icon, or it could just be omitted I guess.
Jeez. Once Gameplay Team gonna take over Combat Snapshots, they will use the Experimental section of Minecraft, just like the trading, villager, minecart overhauls. It's so easy to understand.
I don't think that someone who designed llamas, turtles, pandas, ocean ruins, icebergs, lush caves, tadpoles and frogs should be a game director. Assistant to the director at best.
I think a solid final version of the combat tests would be so good for the current versions of the game. Even if it's in the experiment toggle for a while, I love how snappy and easy to use the combat tests were.

The multi-billion dollar company can't balance combat and add new items at the same time, meanwhile some random unpaid modder in his basement can do it without issue.
If Mojang is going to abandon this entirely they may as well give us more customization to allow us to bring back 1.8 combat on the latest as closely as possible. At the moment it's definitely possible but the experience isn't 1:1 making it not as appealing to everyone. It's definitely possible and have been done before but it would be cool if they continued to add more attribute related things that'll let players bring back the experience.
It's just sad to see the state of this game right now, just sad, we have developers that don't care about the players or the game itself, and even worse, a greedy company controlling them.

As someone who makes mods, I wonder what takes mojang so long. It's not that overly complicated, no different than them adding all the mob vote mobs. It should have taken a team of that size no more than a week or 2.
@CoolLink-Zelda I think that’s part of it, but I think most of the time is spent fixing bugs or making sure the new stuff doesn’t interfere with already established mechanics.
@CoolLink-Zelda Or, they could just give up on java to bedrock parity and say "Hey, these 2 versions are different, java is only for pc so you can have some special updates that would only work on pc, and bedrock is for those who want to play with most of the minecraft playerbase"
I dont really care about what combat system will be in minecraft cuz i always make my own the best for server type cuz SMP should have different pvp system than RPG servers
There are some changes they could easily bring into the game that wouldn't cause any significant issues like stacking potions to 16 and possibly Cleaving. Although, Cleaving seems to be widely disliked so maybe just the potion stacking. I would personally love stackable potions. It's annoying to me that they never stacked and made regular instant health and regeneration potions pretty pointless since you can just make golden apples that stack to 64 instead. Sure, it's more expensive and annoying to get the apples needed but the fact that you can carry 64 of them in one slot and can't carry more than one regen or health potion makes them much better. Especially since you get other effects from gapples as well. Unless you can't access apples for some reason, there is no reason not to use gapples over health potions and regen potions. I guess you could use splash health potions to harm undead mobs or heal your pets but other than fighting the wither, I doubt anyone uses those. Maybe in multiplayer to heal both their friend and themself. I just think that those potions would be way more useful if they stacked.
I honestly think there should be two or three updates with NO NEW CONTENT AT ALL, just improvements of the existing mechanics. Enchanting is broken, combat is broken, villager trading is broken, and so on. There are so many dumb structures that add NOTHING to the game. I personally think there should be 4 updates with no new features at all: 1- Structures updates. For making old and uselles structures to be on par with new ones like trial chambers. Imagine what a jungle temple could be? 2- Enchantment update: I personally like the idea of having to visit ancient structures to learn and unlock new enchantments. Just buying a book from the villagers is too dumb. 3- Trading update: Please nerf trading halls. Make so villagers have a structure of interest that they need to visit for them to refresh their trades. Like, a farmer needs to have a proper farm for him to sell you stuff, not just stare at a composter. I relly like something like millenaire or minecolonies. 4- Combat update. Self explanatory.
I don’t understand why they add new features while ignoring the fact bedrock is missing the Regen, heart and other particles while in combat, sweeping edge, sword delay and axe cool down etc. (I mainly want stackable potions)
whoever makes a mod that adds all of the snapshot changes shall be forever immortalized in the community as a hero (and please make it for forge 1.20.1 for totally no specific reason😊) combat nouveau kinda does it, but not fully and also adds its own things which i personally don't like such as removing the sweep attack from swords unless they have the enchantment
Maybe because everyone and the newer generations are used to the new combat from 1.9 makes this more controversial if it happens meaning a repeat of the 2016 disaster
Yeah back when the combat snapshots were being released there was an openly hostile 1.8 combat community to Mojang. Nowadays that community has basically collapsed.
the 1.9 controversy was mainly cuz its just bad. Don't get me wrong, 1.8 should absolutely be burnt with fire, but 1.9 is no better. Combat snapshots are not just a combination of both, it's a thoughtful rework that makes combat significantly better and not just "changed"

The funniest part about the combat update to me is how many servers still refuse to move over to newer versions. Because removing spam clicking is life ruining for players I guess
I think Jeb was in charge of it and abandoned it. Probably because as life in a company goes, he was asked to help on other things and it just fell on the back burner. Now its probably sitting on the to do list. Thats why the PR responses more lean towards, "dont expect any updates to combat for now". Because nobody currently is working on it. It might change in the coming months, years. But for now its just a bulletin on a long list

But instead we have Copper Bulbs ruined or updating some useless UI stıff.

@ you do realise that Bedrock edition includes Xbox, Playstation, Switch, and PC/Windows right? most Bedrock players are probably impacted negatively because of mobile/touchscreen controls. minecraft's obscene size and success,
mojang's suffocating moral approach to adding new mobs without loot,
their obsession with adding side content that you have to travel thousands of blocks for,
most updates not meeting expectations since they barely change the main gameplay,
and bedrock edition parity splitting development between itself and java are the biggest things holding minecraft back from being a truly great game. because of all these things, it will only ever be just a fairly good game that usually requires mods.
most features that _could_ be added will usually fall to one of those things. the fact we got the nether update and caves + cliffs, let alone within a couple years of each other is actually mind boggling if you think about it. if we're really lucky we might even get an end update before 2035, and maybe, just maybe bedrock edition will actually be a playable game by then too, despite all the time apparently spent on it by mojang

even just the grass, bow changes, and stacking potions would be enough for me
itd be very easy to implement without a full rewrite
Combining the two makes both playerbases happy, in what world you consider that confusing and unintuitive when nowadays there's stuff like crystal pvp which must be the most unintuitive thing you could ever think of by also completely overwhelming new players with items.
@@Firespecialstar Currently there are 2 playerbases of pvp. Both playerbases have spent years getting good at their combat system and are comfortable with it. 3:29 WTF dude , i was the one who wrote that post in the minecraft feedback page xxddd .
Hi asimoa!

@WitherSweat HI WitherXGuard xd. Don't worry, you'll be used as stock footage for the rest of eternity because Ampheta used you to showcase the parry combo.
tbh the idea of servers having the choice on combat is beautiful... too bad mojang will still promote 1.9+ as hard as possible in order to fully kill 1.7/1.8.
all these years trying to improve in the game, just because mojang for some reason refuses to provide any kind of support to the pvp, and leaving us with a very flawed system, which problems keep actively popping up
@ I will keep playing 1.8 as long as possible, and I know enough people will do the same for it to never fully die
I just wish gold weapons had a niche, they could be a cool combo/juggle tool if they had faster attack speed like in Smash
Attack reach was also a cool idea that could've opened up ideas for custom weapons like lances and daggers
why is smash steve better than minecraft steve?!? it makes no sense
This would be a perfect "Game drop"
Everything from that snapshot
I think an option to choose either combat would be good for servers honestly. I also personally think Parrying might add some combat depth, maybe in pvp, like using your sheild just as your hit resets the attacker or they have a second of no attacking.
You don't even realise how bad this'd be
Agreed on the option for servers, not sure so much for the parrying but it sounds interesting
parrying would be borderline just impossible to predict attacks as they are instant, you would just have to spam the block button and would take some of the fun in pvp if shields were the most op tool in a fight (somewhat to what fishing rods were in 1.8 pvp), parrying could be possibly good if it existed only as a way to counter axe hits
At least they could implement some of those bonus features. Stackable potions and multishot crossbows sounds amazing

It’s tiring I just want an update on most things that haven’t been touched since 1.0 or 1.8
Not a single thing here is true
So much of this would have been excellent additions, like the potion stacking and arrow multihit. Still glad spam attacking is gone though. Needing to pace your attacks makes combat so much more interesting and strategic.
There's also a mod that brings the CTS mechanics to modern versions (and even expands on the mechanics, and everything is toggleable, so if you don't like one change, you can revert it)
It's called combatify
the combat snapshots will never be added into the newer game due to the addition of the mace. unless they made the mace the only weapon which still had a cooldown, turning the mace extremely weak and easily counterable with the longer reach with tridents, the mace would be used as a spammable weapon and it would be incredibly hard to use it as intended
edit: this is just what i think, please debate with me and correct me about anything i got wrong! just be civil
Combat snapshots still have the cooldown, they just work differently for certain instances so the mace will be the exact same
The cooldowns still exist and 8c. theres actually 2 cooldowns. one that shows when you can hit with max reach which is visible with the attack indicator. and one thats invisible which is capped to your weapons attack speed.
Even if we don't get the actual weapon changes of the snapshots, there's still many things people been asking for like the potion buffs
It's been almost a decade since 1.9 and Bedrock still isn't allowed to have an offhand?
if they want to add offhand they would have to force all mobile players to use the new mobile controls with dedicated buttons for attack and place blocks, instead of how they can pick what controls they want to use
@SmitePlayz1 I don't see why that's necessary, the offhand doesn't change the controls
@@malucarthow are mobile players gonna use an offhand
@ I'm assuming you haven't played Java Edition? The offhand doesn't have any special controls, it's just a backup. The offhand is used when the main hand does not already have the same action. For example, when holding a pickaxe in the main hand and a torch in the offhand, if you right click on a block, it will place the torch, because the pickaxe cannot be placed. It's also not possible to use the offhand for attacking or breaking blocks.
There is a button to quickly swap the hands though. That could be implemented by simply tapping the offhand icon, or it could just be omitted I guess.
@ I know…? 💀💀 I’m talking about bedrock edition and nothing you jsut said has anything to do with bedrock edition
Jeez. Once Gameplay Team gonna take over Combat Snapshots, they will use the Experimental section of Minecraft, just like the trading, villager, minecart overhauls. It's so easy to understand.
If an alternative is made, it could be explained in great detail before it's started for the community to vote on which is added onto and implemented.

@CoolLink-Zelda Or, they could just give up on java to bedrock parity and say "Hey, these 2 versions are different, java is only for pc so you can have some special updates that would only work on pc, and bedrock is for those who want to play with most of the minecraft playerbase"

I actually like the 'i can outrange and joust the spammers' thing. It was an 'experiment' sadly.
I personally think there should be 4 updates with no new features at all:
1- Structures updates.
Honestly, I think we're better off just having someone implement the features as a mod than we are waiting and hoping on Mojang doing it.

here in pvp civilization
stacking potions should be in game rn, its a long over due change.
I don’t understand why they add new features while ignoring the fact bedrock is missing the Regen, heart and other particles while in combat, sweeping edge, sword delay and axe cool down etc. (I mainly want stackable potions)
whoever makes a mod that adds all of the snapshot changes shall be forever immortalized in the community as a hero (and please make it for forge 1.20.1 for totally no specific reason😊)
combat nouveau kinda does it, but not fully and also adds its own things which i personally don't like such as removing the sweep attack from swords unless they have the enchantment
Maybe because everyone and the newer generations are used to the new combat from 1.9 makes this more controversial if it happens meaning a repeat of the 2016 disaster
then tell them to suck it up, add it anyway, and just add a gamerule option to revert it
Yeah back when the combat snapshots were being released there was an openly hostile 1.8 combat community to Mojang. Nowadays that community has basically collapsed.
OP is wrong. People were very excited for these changes when we were play testing them
Nope, everyone was excited for this and its literally a better version merging both 1.8 and 1.9
the 1.9 controversy was mainly cuz its just bad. Don't get me wrong, 1.8 should absolutely be burnt with fire, but 1.9 is no better. Combat snapshots are not just a combination of both, it's a thoughtful rework that makes combat significantly better and not just "changed"
Hey im a native german speaker and I have read the article
It sas "for example the combat system, in that way we want make it so that for every minecraft player there is something for tham
I just want stackable potions man :
Every year I beg for this update to come out, but It never does 😢😭
Not as bad as the Evolution of Combat in Runescape. I think that initially they were REALLY worried about it being as big a problem as EoC, but over time realized that it wouldn’t be necessary so they put it on the backburner
Oh damn they were cooking with the snapshots
The funniest part about the combat update to me is how many servers still refuse to move over to newer versions. Because removing spam clicking is life ruining for players I guess
I think we need an enchanting rework/update before this
I think Jeb was in charge of it and abandoned it.
The update Mojang will never release? Wdym combat snapshots, I thought you were talking about the End Update.
Hahaha I still hold out hope for that
@@TheMisterEpic I think it's gonna come out eventually
right now the main problem with mc pvp is it takes like 10-20 minutes to kill a player we keep getting tankier with out getting stronger
Thought I was watching a destiny video with that music for a second
MC combat will always be, to me, like watching two cats slapping each other. It’s awkward to play and boring to watch. MC is not my go to fighting game and killing mobs is just a means to an ends.
