I don't think the Bible says no one should drink alcohol, but a lot of people are probably better off without it. I've never woke up any morning and regretted NOT drinking. LOL

The case in study scientifically and the spiritual physical consequences of drinking too much alcohol for the human. Yes while God doesn't condemn alcohol. Noah sinned by becoming drunk, I'm not sure if it's inherently being drunk or because being drunken caused him to sin because he wasn't aware and conscious all of that common sense stuff he was woozy you know okay so obviously God doesn't condemn us for drinking alcohol, but he doesn't like it when we're binging it as we do with water, which can kill us too when we drink too much of it. I never thought I'd see this as a boy but I've seen story articles , this woman died drinking too much water for Nintendo switch prize. I'm not sure what would be sinful there that she literally killed herself by intention withought knowing the consequences of death and also that she wanted the item much more than her own life. I've gotten drunk multiple times. Doing nothing sitting bed. laziness the capital sin of sloth does usually lead to gluttony and lust. My biggest sins are lust and wrath so I guess alcohol wouldn't be good for anyone who can't self control themselves as with anyone and anything else , such as mothers who go shopping for useless non sense.

Moderation in everything. It ain’t no grape juice people. Fermented is not grape juice. Strong drink means strong drink stop complicating it. If you do too much of anything it’s bad for you.
Also one thing to consider is that drinking beer or wine in ancient times was sometimes better than drinking water due to the water being toxic at times
It’s interesting that many who are vehemently against someone having a beer with a burger will be the same people that proceed to eat 3-5 burgers, fries, and slop down a mega coke!

It's hard for this generation of young wipper-snappers to understand the grape juice claims. Now, grapes at the store are washed and often coated with wax or oil to make them look good. But, if you grow grapes in your back yard or if you're old enough to remember, grapes have a dusty white coating of yeast on them. You can see the same thing on ripe pineapples still today on the bottoms and ripe sections. As soon as you crush grapes to get the juice out of them, the yeast starts fermenting them. As The Frugal Gourmet said "You have to do something underhanded to keep grapes from turning into wine". Grape juice is a modern invention. Unless you were at the grape press, you would not taste un-fermented grape juice before the inventions of pasteurization and refrigeration. There is no generation before these inventions that had the leisure time to press grapes for fresh juice drinking. Pressing any fruit was a big mess that you don't get into unless you are going to press a lot of it, usually with lots of people helping, and in the case of grapes, it's all made into wine.
That makes total sense! I had read that non-alcoholic wine (grape juice) didn't exist until Thomas Welch invented it in the 1800's but wasn't sure why that was. The process you shared makes sense! Thanks for sharing that

@@deangerber1797 It takes more water to grow grapes. Take a look at any desert area and see if you can find any that have wine as their main drink. You will find that it is water they drink. Also, there are many references just in the scripture about drinking water. Wine was a luxury and that is why it was considered a blessing in scripture.

It's weird how a some Christians seem to act as though one beer and you're drunk. The principle is don't be given over to anything, which is different from a self-controlled and moderate usage.

Grape juice wasn't drunk, much less kept in Middle Eastern houses, even though it wasn't invented until 1869. Thomas Welch was fascinated by Louis Pasteur, and in 1869, Welch invented a method of pasteurizing grape juice so that fermentation was stopped and the drink was non-alcoholic. He persuaded local churches to adopt this non-alcoholic wine for communion services, calling it "Dr. Welch's Unfermented Wine."
Which isn't Biblical then as Jesus used wine in the Last Supper and said that it is the one to be used to commemorate Him.
Yeah, that was something I didn't know until I was researching for this video series. Quite interesting! I guess American churches were struggling with alcohol abuse so Welch was trying to help.
Well presented and Biblically balanced. I have had more deep conversations on Scripture at craft breweries than at many local congregations. A pub family orientated is not like the dark dismal and depressing bars which a believer should not frequent.
Thank you! I also meet with friends at a brewery every week, we talk about all kinds of things including scripture as well. To me, it seems breweries are natural places where people are having important conversations about life.
I find the same encounters at cigar lounges. Deep thinkers and many of them believers. When the early presbyters in Holland circa 1650's met to discuss church doctrines *Probably Calvanist, had two things on their table besides Scripture, Beer and tobacco. These men would not be allowed in most fundamental churches today. Charles Spurgeon was a Cigar smoker until persuaded to give it up. He was prone to great depression and needed the Nicotine for endorphine release

I really don't get how my brothers and sisters are so blind about this stuff. I'm italian, born and raised in my country and here we have more kind of wines than the rest of the world combined, and we have also an unlimited passion for beer, where we have thousands of artisans making their own kind an like....and we are the country with the less alcoholic problem in the world (except for muslim countries probably)....alcohol is not a sin per se, it becomes so if you abuse it. One of the greates theologians and pastors i've ever known, R.C. Sproul, was a smoker....and so? Of smoke can kill you, but also eating 5 hamburgers a day can....but smoking a couple of cigarettes when you meet with some friends couple of times a year or smoking with your uncle at the end of thanksgiving day with the bellu full and stuffed....cmon....it is simply enjoing your life, as the Lord commands in Ecclesiaste and proverbs....
ANYTHING can be a sin in extreme excess (i.e. an idol). Eating, drinking (alcohol or soft drinks), working (or the complete opposite sleeping/lazing around), sex, shopping, investing/money, etc. can be vises in excess.
Great points. I've heard alcohol abuse is less of a problem in Europe because people are raised around it and taught how to manage it. I've always wondered if that was true since I'm from the U.S. Recently read some comments from the Jewish community that were similar too. I agree, anything in excess can be harmful. Like donuts!
Alcohol has led me to sin more times than I can count, even just a small amount can lead to a spiral. Not worth it…at least for me.

Alcohol by nature impairs judgment, therefore one would be more apt to overindulge even after the first drink. I know too many people who made critical life blunders over alcohol and others who defended the drinking of alcohol and became alcoholics. I think it wise to stay away from it altogether. The example of Lot and his daughters is a sufficiently good example.
I get it. I struggled with alcoholism and stayed away from it for a few years. Now, thanks be to God, I can practice self control. But everyone has their own walk. Stay strong.
Good video that summarizes the points I've considered in the past when determining whether or not to drink. I've heard the arguments that Jesus only made unfermented wine for the wedding feast at Cana, but that has several problems. The chief problem is the comment made by the Steward of the Feast who says that the wine Jesus made was the best. He states that normally the host would serve the best wine first, and then only bring out the cheap wine once everyone "had too much to drink".... in other words, that their senses were dulled to a point where they couldn't tell the difference between good wine and cheap wine. Grape juice does not dull the senses like fermented wine; so the statement that everyone was drinking too much unfermented grape juice makes no sense. Jesus did the opposite, saving the best for last.
From a practical standpoint, I don't know of anyone who indulges in "too much" unfermented grape juice. For one, it's sickeningly sweat, and second, it just doesn't follow that people would consume glass after glass of unfermented grape juice. I challenge anyone to try to drink more than 15 ounces of the stuff (equal to 3 glasses of wine by volume). It gets old very quickly. The only logical explanation was the wine Jesus made was used as it is often used today, to celebrate and develop a feeling of warmth and fellowship. I do not know anyone who sits around celebrating and drinking "too much" unfermented grape juice, Christians included.
Further, Jesus himself said that his critics accused the Son of Man of being a glutton and a drunkard. A drunkard who drinks only grape juice makes no sense, so once again it is clear the Jesus was partaking in what was normal and customary in the 1st Century AD: fermented wine.
We can also look at other OT passages. Proverbs 20:1 says, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise." I have had beer, wine and whiskey, and in no case did I start mocking people or get into fights. Usually, I'm just sitting around the table with family and friends. Since the effect (mocking and fighting) are not happening, does that mean the Bible is wrong or incorrect? Clearly not! The context is too much drink might cause people to be "lead astray." If you're not being lead astray, then there is no problem. Note: the passage clearly does not say the alcohol itself is the bad thing: it's the effects of having too much (mocking, brawling, being lead astray) that are condemned.
I have no problem with people who choose not to drink at all. It's the people who try to stretch the Bible's clear language into saying something it doesn't say that I have a problem with: they start with a belief that "alcohol is bad" and then try to twist the plain meaning of various Bible passages to fit their agenda. Sadly, I've noticed that among some folks who are otherwise fine Christians, often who had problems with alcohol in the past. Seems like their lack of self-control has caused them to take an extreme position and try to impose it upon others who do not have problems with alcohol.
The Bible is clear: drunkenness is forbidden. Alcohol is not.
Great points especially about indulgence in grape juice! The context there does seem to point to alcoholic wine. I can understand why someone would want to avoid alcohol due to experience, family history or how they've seen it affect someone but yes, viewing it as always bad does seem like a leap. I myself enjoy craft beer and don't struggle with using it in moderation. I have a harder time not eating too much Easter candy (lol I love Cadbury eggs) but everyone is different.

Easter candy aside, I don't see many Christians grousing about gluttony, in spite of the fact that in the USA obesity kills 100,000 MORE people per year than alcohol related deaths. They whine (pun intended) about alcohol, but if you've seen the waistlines at many churches... gluttony seems to get a pass.
Yeah, it does seem inconsistent for sure! I think that's important to recognize. At least for me, being aware of that helps me remember we all have areas we struggle with.

The consumption of alcohol is not in and of itself a sin, but it does impair you and can easily lead to sin. In Bible times alcohol was the only way to ensure a safe beverage and life without was very difficult. Today the consumption of alcohol is not necessary at all.

Back in that day there was no refrigerator, so unless you just drink water, well you were drinking some form of fermented juice. However, the drinks in US have a lot of alcohol content in them. This can lead to drunkenness. If you buy wine from Italy, the alcohol is very low in the wine. That's how come they can have wine with every meal.

I'm sorry - that's not true regarding Italy. Italy set the standard for wine around the world. The alcohol content isn't little. It's actually rather strong stuff. 13-16% ABV on average is very strong.

If drinking alcohol would be allowed in New Testament the Apostle Paul would not need to intervene and give special permission for Timoteus to have some wine for his problems with stomach.

Also we don't know for sure about which kind of wine Apostle Paul speaks. Alcohol doesn't make good for stomach. Some Bible explications says about boiled wine which is not so strong (8-12%).

Some form of fasting would’ve been a standard in the first century church (at least on Wednesday/Friday, sometimes longer), with water only as the most rigorous practice. Since there are some gut health benefits from wine in particular (in moderation), it could be that Paul was recommending a less rigorous form of fasting given Timothy’s ailments.

If my having a drink causes my fellow believer to stumble, then I'll abstain from having that drink. I can enjoy a cup of coffee or a soft drink too. I also do not like the feeling of a hang-over, so if I do have alcoholic beverages I do so in moderation. And it's not wise to consume when doing other activities such as operating equipment, driving, using firearms, etc. Common sense should always be our guide.
I think that's completely reasonable. Like you said, I enjoy craft beer but I try to be conscious of who's around. I wouldn't want to put someone who is vulnerable to addiction in a bad situation.

Why such a focus on alcohol-the key message is the mind-when born again our minds belong to God-previously we had a free reign-but once born again there is a spirit-a Holy Spirit within us that restrains and convicts. The the real sin is losing control of one’s mind - why is it any different if a man loses control of his mind and drinks another wine to the man that loses control of his mind and cannot refrain from a second or third cup or tea, it’s the loss of control-or if i miss the nail and hit my thumb with the hammer and shout in anger a swear word why is it any different if I lose control and shout fudge - it’s not the word-it’s the loss of control. I hear many preachers condemning those that drink a glass of wine-yet all day long they can’t refrain from drinking tea.
Sexual sin, violence against others, drunk driving, child abuse, all are enhanced in a big way by the consumption of alcohol.

The young man here doesn’t quite understand all the passages he’s using here but overall he does a pretty good job. The Deuteronomy 14 passage is about the 2nd tithe of increase to be spent at the annual Feast of Tabernacles which occurs in the fall and is the 6th of the 7 annual Holy Days or commanded “Feasts of the Lord(Leviticus 23:2). Yes Jesus drank wine and I imagine it was probably only of the highest quality being that He never broke even one law of health. He’s also correct about Jesus not being a Nazarite, but it’s funny he shows a long haired figure, supposedly representing Jesus, while saying Jesus never took the Nazarite vow. Nazarites we’re forbidden to drink wine and cut their hair until the time their vow was fulfilled. So Jesus did drink wine, but He also cut His hair and looked like any other Jewish man of His day, which was NOT that of a Nazarite!

If you're Orthodox it's a no brainer. In Communion we take both body and blood of our Lord in the form of bread and wine. Jesus Himself drank wine at the Last Supper. So this isn't even an issue.
Yeah, it's curious how the view that alcohol is a sin emerged. It doesn't seem to fit with all of the related verses. It's a view I've encountered off and on in Christian churches though. I'm not entirely sure what denominations everyone who held this view was from but there were some from non-denominational Christian churches, even if the church itself wouldn't take that same stance. Not sure where it comes from
@@breweryministries It's strange since from the Old Testament to New wine was never prohibited. Being drunk is though--the kind where you can barely stand up and be incoherent. But drinking in moderation isn't a problem. We're not Muslims where alcohol is haram (forbidden).

The bible is meant to reprogram us imho. All our addictions are some type of programmed behaviour. This is once again jmho. I believe we have to stop thinking in terms the rest of the world wants us to, and think the way Yahweh intended us to think. Addiction is being ruled by our desires. We are supposed too rule our desires. Thats why fasting and prayer are so important. Not only is it physically helpful to our bodies to periodically fast, but you are exercising control over some of your strongest and most primitive desires. Fast your desires into submission sometimes, exert your authority over them. This along with diet(also covered in the bible) and throw in some exercise, should help. Once again, Jmho, but unless you've tried it you really cant scooff at it.

In the Old Testament people were not given as much understanding as we have today, they were making the history of the biblical times, but now we have the full picture and know better.
So if we are a temple then we are the tent of meeting therefore if God lives in us then it’s 100% of the time not okay.

Proverbs 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
Proverbs 31:5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.
Proverbs 31:6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.
Proverbs 31:7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.
Proverbs 31:8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
So if we are priests and kings and the temple of God then a “true Christian” will not drink.
Scripture doesn’t contradict itself it just has levels of callings to people that are the true believers and some that are 1/2 in and out of the world. Holy means separated unto God.
Now you don’t have to agree with me, but if you think a Christian is okay to put a glass of alcohol to his mouth, you’re wrong.
