The right to *bear arms.*
LOL
That's probably what Inspired this entire game 😂
The right to arm bears.
*BLAM*
The right to the whole bear
It's a known fact that all the bears can double-jump.
Dunno why this made me laugh so hard
Can confirm
Jetbear Sam
You had me at 'Jackass robot dies in acid, leaves robot bone skeleton'
Same thing that sold me lol
First person Ratchet and Clank was the first comparison I thought of. Seriously, the gameplay and artistic sensibilities are the same
We need more of those.
3rd person as well.
Same here.
Yeah, it has a very similar vibe to the first trilogy!
Its fitting that the code-cracking tool is a dial-a-thing given that its pretty much a space age version of monkey island's piracy control, the dial-a-pirate
This game looks like an adhd kid's dream
I have ADHD WooooOooo xD
People with ADHD don't tend to enjoy overstimulation because they already have it from the normal every day crap.
@@GoodmansGhostI got ADHD myself, and you are 100% right.
@@trumpeterswan8175 1000%
@@GoodmansGhostadhd people can be constantly understimulated actually. That's why they are prescribed meth to feel normal lmao.
My mate actually is one of the devs for this! Awesome to see someone like gman reviewing it, wasnt expecting this in my feed at all!
Did you get to do any play testing? It must be cool to see something come together after so much time your friends worked on it.
Looks boof
That's a cool friend to have matey
This is why you're my favourite reviewer without question. Not only do you do classics, and AAA releases while knowing what you're talking about as an FPS veteran in the scene, but you do the weird little indies types I never woulda have heard of too, with the same amount of passion and reverence. You've just got a love for gaming that I enjoy listening to.
Gman : “High on Life is unfunny and stupid”
Also Gman : “haha, these robots just repeated they love hoverbikes 5 times! Hilarious!”
Gman is unfunny and stupid
Getting some serious Sam vibes from this. No, like seriously. Some very serious Sam vibes. It may be only visually, but it’s seriously impressive how much it’s giving that vibe. Seriously.
Are you serious.
@@DoomguyIsGrinningAtYou. Serious as stone.
I wouldn't mind if after this game they get contracted to develop a new Serious Sam game. Croteam have been on the decline for a long time. The external team they had got to make Siberian Mayhem actually did a much better job than the main developers.
High on life if it wasn't mid af
"ZoomZoomZoomZoomZoomZoom"
Yea
High on life wasn't even mid, it was straight up shit. I swear it was some sort social experiment to see how many dick jokes Smooth brain Rick and Morty fanbase can take before their brains melt
high on life was cringe af, like if the entire game was made by frustrated zoomers
"Mid" is way too huge an improvement for that game.
Seriously, I do not understand how that game is as popular as it is and how people go out of their way to defend it. And don’t even get me started on the Rick & Morty “humour”
Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath did it first and better
Its like JazzPunk with actual gameplay
Funny thing is that High on Life is actually a pretty decent video game, its just got Roilands stench all over everything else
Yeah like, it plays fine [from how long i got in it] but holy shit every time Roiland started rambling... or I guess the AI trained on Roiland, i just zoned out. Which is funny because I felt like the dialogue between your sister and the previous bounty hunter was funny enough, but then.. Roiland banter time.
@StagFiesta guss the other gun was far better than the main gun
Wait, Maxwell Atoms? As in, the guy who created The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy?
Great reference
and evil con carne I think!! which has the bear!!!
If I had a nickel for every time an FPS gave you a lovable partner named BT, I'd have two nickels, which isn't much but it's weird that it happened twice
I still miss BT.
Respawn killed him so Blisk could have a gameshow.
BT is the goat
@Viper-ft3tk that's not what Apex Legends is, is it? You're making a joke, right?
@@Deadspace123100 A battle royale gameshow started by Blisk twenty years after Titanfall 2. In which the conflict between the IMC and the Militia is "resolved" in a text crawl on a website.
It's as bad as it sounds.
There was one joke that stuck with me in High on Life.
And it was the construction worker family.
The one part in the game where the annoying dialogue is intentional, getting you to try shooting the characters, only for it to work.
It’s great. It was a vindicating moment in the game. lol.
That and the “traffic jam” community.
It was worth playing for free. A time killer. But oof the guns were quite annoying. Especially the knife. Strange how they made a whole DLC based off him.
And this game has bullet hell stuff and good combat: interesting. More interesting that High on Life.
For me it's more of "Earthworm Jim spinoff FPS"
Here for the review but also to shit on High on Life
"yeah because uh so you see huu you got ehh you got it bro so hey bro uhh you have uhh" - Typical dialogue in high on life
High on Life is damn good you crazy
Very nice, always here to shit on High on Life
High on Life feels like it was developed by those kids that are obsessed with Lil Peep and get their girlfriends pregnant 2 days after their high school graduation
@@gingeralebean5375 nah it was mostly Justin Roiland's brain child and Lil Peep was WAY after his time in high school
For being made by 3 people, it looks great all around. The lighting is pretty flat but they really nailed the guns. People never seem to understand how hard it can be to make satisfying shooting. You gotta get the sounds, enemy reactions, animations etc all down great so your shooting doesnt suck eggs. The guns look super satisfying to shoot here so props for that.
I love that Beartana is actually Mrs. Bighead from Rocco's Modern Life
ngl seeing the bullet hell already seals the deal how engaging it would be.
Holy shit, HIGH ON LIFE BUT FUNNY?!
The ronny botsville jumping in acid made me immediately add this to my wishlist.
It gives my a bunch of ps2 game vibes like Psychonauts and Rachet and clank. That's a good thing as we rarely see that tone in games these days.
Bit of a missed opportunity from the devs that the Duck Launcher doesn't function like Snarks in Half Life.
My mom uses the paper bag to hold the ping pong balls until they're needed.
Looks like a hidden gem of a game
Amazing Video GmanLives.
Definitely noticed that lay-z-bot ball. Nice reference for sure.
the best part of this game is the rayguns aesthetic instead of the milisim BS we have to eat year by year.
Based on the demo I would have said it's like High on Life but not funny. High on Life had some bad jokes (some of which, like the traffic jam, are meant to be background noise and not dwelled on) but Bears in Space felt like it was trying super hard and not landing a thing. "I get it. It ain't making me laugh but I get it." was my feeling with it. At least High on Life did land sometimes.
Anyway the gameplay in the demo itself was fun so i'll probably pick it up one day.
The jackass reference actually had me cracking up lmao. I don't think High on Life ever got me even close to laughing out loud
The robot leaving behind a metal skeleton while the crowd laughs had my sides hurting
That kinda humor and creatively
of MDK2, Ratchet and Clank 2 and Time Splinters 3, with a dash of High on Life.
Thank.
God.
😋
4:38 Dear GOD it's Robo Vin Diesel!
I think if Evoland 2 was an homage / love letter to 2D and topdown games.
Then Bears in Space might be its counterpart for 3D games and the more forgotten genres.
This looks about as funny as High on Life. “ lol random xD” tier humor.
This is my favorite game of 2024 so far and it's getting so little coverage... people need to know this game exists!
Met the devs at a showcase last year and nerded out over unreal tournament. Was happy to see the side boosts are in the game.
I'm a simple man, I see bears and space, and I'm interested in that
Even got the Thirst Zappers as weapons lol
It's like if Jazzpunk had a secret child that was half bear.
Thanks for the review!
Looks serious sam inspired
For some reason this game sort of feels like it is some kind of missing early 2000's game. I am especially getting some Psychonauts vibes.
"You've found my booty, but you ain't leaving alive!"

"When all those balls are flying in your face, you might want to have as many faces as possible"

This was on my radar. It looks fun. Glad to hear you liked it. I find I've mostly been buying indie games lately.
20:10 this part got me dying 😂😂😂
I've been playing through this myself, and the last thing I expected was a Trap Door reference in the form of a trading card.
I am over 20 hours in this game and I'm not sure how I never realized the guns have alternate fire modes... Also the basketcube launcher is really good for bosses, and smaller crowds, if you time your shots right it'll hit them multiple times. Absolutely demolishes the big jumpy guys.
I love how you say without all the annoying voicework, and then the first voices you showed are terrible. Lmao.
OH my god im so glad it's not just me
QUEENSLANDER!
I think the robot with the gravely voice is a reference to Vin Diesel in the Fast and Furious movies, always talking about family and all that
Love the Basketball reference 😂 what a great film that is
This is why you’re the GOAT. You review games that would have completely gone under the radar and make me want to try them out. Bought Boltgun after watching your review and loved every minute of it.
Bought Bears in space last night after watching this review and it’s amazing. Everything High on life wanted to be.
Keep up the good work Sonny Jim!
this is like a first person r&c game.... something we need more of desperately
Okay I'm hooked
Didn't expect you to cover this 😅
8:29 that's what i was thinking this whole video. environments look a bit similar to the original ratchet and clank to me. one of my favorite games of all time so definitely a good thing
i left this comment before i watched five seconds further LOL. great minds think alike
Go buy it guys. You won't regret it. Support indie devs! This game is fun.
Need to play this game now
Wow this looks sweet. Gonna buy and support these lads down under.
High on life is just personified reddit humor
I love games with actual love put into them
It's so charming
Australians are hilarious. Have you actually looked at a map of Australia? I think I found a forest called Dingleberry Bush once.
Did Gman pronounce Atoms like Rainier Wolfcastle? Nice reference there buddy!
Also, just reviewed this and absolutely love it!
Ngl, not even a third of the way through this review, and i love this game already.
It kinda reminds me of Armed & Dangerous
I miss Planet Moon Studios. 😥
Shots fired
So it's basically Journey to the Savage Planet on steroids
Sounds like a winner to me
Wishlisted! and aw man it reminded me that UT2004 is now 20 years old.
This is so fucking stupid. Buying it right now
"Did you..did you just shot his retirement funds?"
This is quite cool
This really does look like a FPS version of Ratchet & Clank and I am here for it
Fascinating
oh thank god, i thought i was actually alone on that sentiment that High on life was C tier shooter, and a F tier comedy.
Funny reference to DM-Deck16 while searching for letters to spell a word while at the same time being a reference to Tony hawk.
Just noticed the jak 1 swamp level. This game is good.
Why does this remind me of Banjo Kazooie but it’s entirely the FPS Breegull Gun sequences from BK2.
There's one other first-person shmup I can think of, called Drunken Robot Pornography.
I'm dead serious. There's robots and alcohol, but the last bit, not so much.
It kinda looks like a high on life clone. But i dont get how dev started 7 years ago and they are so familiar in concept. The gun designs alone look purposefully the same as high on life. I hope it makes it to consile i wanna play this bad boy.
always nice to see the unreal engine used for it's original purpose.... a shooter
So it's basically Commander Keen in FPS.
Lol, I spotted a "Disk Defragmentation" joke in the basketball scene. Only 90s computer kids will know.
This game is basically my entire humor boiled into my favorite type of game
Have we ever had a real-life research survey of how people actually do/how things actually go on their final assignments &/or days of their careers? I'm so curious how it correlates with fictional stories.
Game looks incredible
the humor gives me jazzpunk vibes
The boss fights look just like Returnal but in first person and different art style. Might check the game out for that reason alone!
I think you should cover Captain Wayne: Vacation Desperation, you'd love it
Ever played breakdown, i played on original Xbox and remember it being a fever dream of a shooter but I loved the concept
This actually looks fun unlike high on life
7:26 Awww the cop robot has a cop 'stache!
[acab]
I get it. It's a game with lots of pop culture references. So what you're telling me is... it's "The Big Bang Theory"?
The title is exactly what I thought playing the demo lol
That medieval village kinda reminds me of Serious Samv 2
And i wouldn't be surprised if the double barrel shotgun is an homage to both Doom and erious Sam
It’s probably not a deliberate reference but in the FPS Area 51 on PS2 part way through the game you get infected with this mutagen that allows you to turn in to a mutant monster temporarily
Why do you have to always bring my mom into this? She's a lovely lady!
Sounds like a lot of issues could be solved with more enemy varieties that function differently.
Hey Gman you should totally review the old ps1 army men games, especially the ww2 ones.
