- After nearly five years in development my HO scale model of the Hershey chocolate factory in Smiths Falls is finally complete. This project has taken longer than expected but I wanted to get it done right the first time. Trains will finally be able to drop off and pick up boxcars at the plant which should make for some exciting switching operations in the future!

Music The Cascades - Rhythm Of The Rain (instrumental)
Dude, the factory is brilliantly done! Its is fantastic! And just as great is the mini documentary you made. As I said before you have a very present speaking voice with no stutters and a great cadence. The research you did for it digging up the archival film is wonderful. But you know what was just as impressive, your selection of the period music! 1963's "Rythum of the Rain" by The Cascades (I Shazamed it). It fits the film and the era it supposed to evoke perfectly. No surprise since it was one of the fairly new songs playing on the radio at the time (released in the US November 1962, in the UK January 1963). Great choice.
I hope you will do another project (although not as big) soon but just as desirable more documentaries! Say about 10 or 15 minutes long usually?😊
Thanks a bunch! It took a while to find the best song but "Rythum of the Rain" seemed correct due to the fact it was released the same year. I have plans for a slightly smaller project in the works - the now abandoned "Forest Fair Mall" in Cincinnati. The story behind that place is wild and I'd love to share it. It will probably begin in 2024
@@SMTMainlinethe song was almost scary
I think this video has made us all want some Hershy's chocolate.
I was eating a chocolate brownie while watching this...
Me want za za and Mr Beast bars bc they better lmao
Agreed
Quick! Let's get inside that facility and munch on some chocolate! 😂
C'mon everyone! Let's just do it!😎
Excellent work! My wife worked at the headquarters in Hershey Pa. Was going to try and model something from that facility.
Excellent video, Harrison! The editing and music were spot-on! Congratulations on finishing the factory and thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks, this one has been a long time in the making.
Dude you did a great job my name is Eric and I live in Buffalo New York I'm 58 years old and I just got back into the hobby and you have inspired me to do a lot of restoration work an old locomotive engines and I get it my hobby shop again great job keep up the great work in the videos
That's awesome, welcome back to the hobby!
That is so GR8 Harrison! You did a stellar job! Great to hear the history too! We had a Hershey's factory out west here in a town called Oakdale, CA...They closed it down a few years ago and it was a sad day when they did that!
That’s is really something to be proud of ! Thank you for sharing great job. You should send them some pictures.
Congratulations, Mr.Harrison!! That was an enormous modeling project of which you should be quite proud. I loved the use of the song "Pure Imagination." Kudos!
"I loved the use of 'Pure Imagination' for the song."
Is that what it was?
I thought the song was a version of "Rhythm of the Rain" by the Cascades with the vocals muted.

I see. Sorry about that.
I now realize that you were talking about the song at the *beginning* of the video.
My bad.
Thank you for the reference.
Thank you!
SMT THAT IS absolutely a Work of Art. NICE JOB!!
Fantastic Harrison… Five years, hardly seems that long ago you were only finishing a main warehouse. Great video and history lesson. Well done.
That thing is hugeeeee. What a project that thing is. You gotta do a full run of not only your main track on the table but on the chocolate factory as well. Also time to start on another project 😂
Next project. Forest Fair Mall
@@SMTMainline yooooooo that’s gonna be sick

Beautiful project! Congrats!
Literal piece of art there Harrison. Well done young sir.
Wow SMT! This thing is awesome! Real cool to finally see it done!
This is the most amazing model I've ever seen on a layout of any scale, I really love how much detail you Squeezed into it! I also loved the Willy wonka music! And the history lesson too!
Keep up the great work Harrison!
Harrison! You need to make more videos like this! You have a talent for history.
Harrison you done the Hershey Factory proud. A fantastic job all around my friend. To finally seeing it finished. It's well worth the wait!!!!❤
Excellent job with that factory Harrison it looks like the real thing
Superbly done Harrison 👍👍👍👍👍.
Well Done Harrison, am very happy for you and your achievement. A very Proud moment for you.
Such nice detail work! Excellent choice of music! Well done Harrison.
Wow. That's incredible. If you ever travel. I would recommend Hershey Park and the town Hershey in Pennsylvania. Think you would love it. They pump the chocolate smell into the air as well.
It looks spectacular SMT, a job well done! Can't wait to see a lot of switching operations on it in the future!
Amazing work Harrison! So glad it has finally been completed :-)
Hats off to you. You did an excellent job recreating this factory.
I remember the video you made introducing this project all those moons ago. Fantastic job! Just goes to show how fast time flies!
Wow,I cant believe it, this is so awesome, turned out incredible
Long awaited! And , you came in on predicted time. Thanks for the history also. I wasn't aware of any plants outside of PA
Looks sweet (innuendo intended)
The music tied with seeing the miniature Hershey Chocolate Factory brings me back to being a kid and operating my grandpa's layout. Love this. ❤
Wow Smt I cannot believe the amount of work, detail and passion that has been put into this keep up the amazing work 👍🏻
Thanks a bunch!
I didn't know how big this project is, fantastic job.
Wow! Incredible work.
Nice job on the factory and video. It was cool to see the kiss light. I thought they only had them in Hershey.
I believe they have them at all of their major facilities
I hope this video goes viral. It’s your best video of 2023. The production, the content, the factory!! Absolutely incredible. You nailed it. Loved it from start to finish. Well done kid.
Remember going to Hersey when I was a kid. All could think about was the train going in and out. Excellent.. Thanks for
Sharing..
Excellent craftsmanship! Definitely one of your best kitbashes.
Wow! A true work of art. Well Done.
Congratulations Harrison on this stunning piece of recreated history keep up the great work and can I ask what is the next project you are going to do next? Me looking forward to the next video 📹 you produce.
Love the old Greyhound Silverside bus.
Remember when you started this project! So happy to see how amazing it turned out. The history lesson was very interesting and the music choice was spot on for the era. The whole project came out amazingly and the transition and the end was so cool! Great work as always!
I just watched it again it's amazing with all the details. It's really inspiring. Nice to see a young man like yourself committing to a project and following through with it till the end.The detail and time spent shows your commitment. As we get older, it becomes harder , with life's other commitments. You may find yourself not having the time you have now, and that's fine. That's life. But I believe you will not lose the passion you have. Thank you for restoring the passion in me and many others.
Absolutely immaculate, your effort definitely paid off 100/10 and congrats on finishing it.
Your Hershey Factory is AWESOME!!! And you're smart.
Cheers and hats off,SMT', the factory is awesome, now the fun part with switching the factorie, wonderful details
That is Sooooo awesome!!!!! Excellent job!!! on the Hershey factory!!!
Love it. Very nice. You sure put in a lot of labor on this project. Thanks for sharing it.
What a fantastic video! What a great look not only at your factory🍫, but also on the history of how Hershey got started there! 👍👍
Well done, Harrison. Has anyone from Hershey US seen it? It is a superb module.
I haven't sent any links to it. I'm not sure where they stand with the place since they sold it in 2012
I was actually born in Hershey Pennsylvania. I saw the factory quite often and I think I did a tour inside. Hershey park is also an amazing place there. It is a Hershey theme park and is very fun. I make sure to go once or twice about every 5 years when I am able to. If you get the chance to go, I highly recommend it.
I haven't been there yet but its on my bucket list. I wish I could have seen the original factory though.
Mate this has come out looking awesome! Good on ya for taking on a project like this and completing it. You should be real proud of yourself and its a model you can admire. Well done again.
It looks absolutely fantastic! You should super proud!
You did an amazing job glad to see it completed definitely a unique one of a kind section on your layout. Keep up the good work 👍
That’s so cool. Three generations of my family have worked for Hershey in Hershey, PA. I never knew the history of their Canadian operation, so thank you for the introduction. Your model is exquisite. 👍
Very awesome, factory looks great, awesome job 👍🙂
What a great build That was awesome the front entrance spot on Great work a lot of fun to watch. Thank you.
That is insanely impressive! And the music was so fitting it brought tears to my eyes.
Enjoyed the video!!!!! I love the history lesson too! Thank you! Now....I'm hungry for some chocolate!!!!!!!!
Its amazing! Well done, dude! 👏🏼
Well done! Love the roof details/cooler and the apparent minimization of compression. Bravo!
Congratulations, Harrison! I know you've been working on the Hershey factory for quite some time now, and it must make you quite proud to have completed it. But, alas...a model is never really "finished" - you'll find more to add to it later. That being said - that's great work, dude!!! Also - the opening quote from Willy Wonka and the music - PERFECT TOUCH!!!
Thanks a bunch!
I thought it a strange choice since competitor Quaker Oats and their Breaker Candy subsidiary [eventually known as Wonka Candy Company] largely financed the film. Their gamble did not go well at first as the chocolate Wonka Bar was considered a commercial flop. I'm sure true Hershey fans cringed a little bit when they heard the intro. Great modeling effort.
The sheer scale of this model is amazing in and of itself. Well done, you absolute madlad
I remember going there with my family in the 1980s some time, it was cool
Wow. That look amazingly realistic and delicious.
Man if I have more time I will do something like that. Building a layout is a forever hobby that we all enjoy. I love all your videos and it's helping me find more inspiration to try to fix things on my own. Keep up the good work and keep those trains rolling!!
Your Hershey factory is Awesome. The figures and vehicles add so much life to your layout.
Nice touch parking the black jaguar XJS in front of the main doors! I have two XJS's that I take turns in driving! 😀
Fantastic work SMT !!.
HOLY CRAP HARRISON That is absolutely beautiful!
Looks absolutely fantastic, SMT.
Harrison, you did an amazing job . It was worth the wait.
Absolutely beautiful Harison! Spectacular job!
Scrumdidilyumptious, Harrison. I was waiting for the Oompa Loompas to do a song with your name. Only bad children get a song, you'd be more like Charlie Bucket.
Great job with the history lesson, and completion of the Hershey Factory. Nice touch adding the Hershey Kiss lampost out front. And now I want a Whatchamacallit. Too bad it didn't stay open and build Hersheypark 2.😮
Oh yeah, is that young Harrison out front in the last photo?
Thanks for sharing. 👍🐾👍
Thanks a bunch! The last photo is just one I found but I thought it would make a good example.
That is a classic movie from 1971. Willy wonka
This is truly awesome. Been watching your videos for awhile and somehow only just came across this. As an Ottawa resident i remember making the trek down to smiths falls as a kid in the 2000s to take a tour. Was absolutely devastated when they closed it down. So many good memories of looking through windows down at the factory floor and seeing the chocolate churning away. The detailing on the model is great right down to the details on the roof. Fantastic work
Thanks. The timing was good since Hershey's is apparently coming back to town. I have no idea if they will be making chocolate or include the tour anymore but it should be a positive future for the town.
That looks amazing. You did a great job on the building and scenery details. The Hershey trains complete the scene. Definitely worth the wait.
Wow really nice work on the hersheys factory. It looks incredible and nice history on it. I appreciate you sharing this man! Btw I’ve been to the Hersheys chocolate factory in Hershey pa I’ll tell you it was something but not to this one you mentioned. I haven’t been there for 10 years. Btw you should be proud of your self by completing that factory and I’m proud of you too friend. 👏
Very nice ! All you need now is the smell of the coco beans . I remember that well. And those chocolate covered almonds from the factory store were so good !
This is awesome! You did a great job, and I’m so happy it’s finally done!
The reason some employers want people with college degrees is that it shows they can complete something. You can put this video in your resume. 😂 That’s an amazing project. Didn’t expect it to be so huge. I used to haul Hershey’s from Pennsylvania until they built the giant plant in Mexico. Then I’d haul loaded trailers from Laredo, Texas, to Pennsylvania. Sad.
Nice finishing touches on the Hershey's factory! Don't forget to add some tank cars for sugar and corn syrup deliveries too to your service and receiving leads!
Looks great Harrison, awesome job!
I agree with you man!
Wow it looks absolutely amazing! great job Harrison!
You really nailed this project! I’m sure your family, like mine, enjoyed going into the shoppe, taking the tour, and indulging in the bulk chocolate that came down those clear spouts and into our plastic bags. It was a struggle not to sample it all on the way home in the car. Oh and how the cashier always snuck an extra free candy bar into your bag.
My parents brought me there when I was 4 years old. I can still remember the massive vats of chocolate being turned by propellers, and the countless production rooms and finally buying a Reese's pencil at the end in the shop. Great memories, have you heard they are coming back to town?
@@SMTMainline yes! Hershey bought the building back from the weed growers and are moving back in. Although it isn’t clear if it will be a factory or just a distribution centre. They already have two other factories already.
Wow ... that's amazing! Hershey's on my mind ... been on EBAY looking for old Hershey's and Coca Cola freight cars for a future Christmas train.
If you don’t remember me that’s fine I was watching the livestream of this and I just want to say thank you for existing I started model trains about December of last year and watching all of your videos has been so helpful you are amazing at what you do please don’t ever stop
Brings back sweet memories! Great work Harrison.
Way to go Harrison! That turned out fantastic! Enjoyed the history about it too. Well done!😎👍
All I can say is wow, The factory looks so good! Is great to see it complete after seeing it as just the foam and the rough shape of the building. Keep up the incredible work SMT
Excellent Terrific Awesome Fantastic Great I was awe struck by what I heard and saw keep up your great work and I will continue watching.
Congratulations Harrison…..a job well done…….thanks for sharing
Fantastic video glad you finally got it done looks amazing
Great modeling. Music from Willie Wonka was perfect.
Omg u used my fav song in the background. I’m jamming
It's a bop.
@@SMTMainline yes sirrr
I REALLY want a Hershey bar now. 😊😊
